Cage Match to the DEATH: LPGA Tour vs. Middle-aged Scratch and Below

IMHO, it’s not a matter of difficulty, it’s a matter of familiarity.  I play better on my course versus easier courses away simply because I know my course like the back of my hand.  I know yardages from everywhere, I know the green sizes and slopes, pin positions, bunkers that are easy and that are trouble, and, especially, where NOT to hit the ball.  Playing a random course with no knowledge of those things puts me at a disadvantage right off the bat.  IMO, lack of course knowledge can easily be 3-5 strokes during a round, even if you play just as good as you would at home.  I find that my index travels fine to courses that I’m familiar with or have an excellent caddie leading me around, and it doesn’t when I just show up to a new place and tee it up.

This exactly. I bet you don't even need a rangefinder when you play your home track. My home track i know I already know what im hitting off the tee, which club into the greens and par 3 before I get there.

100%...

Sometimes I will go out with five clubs to switch it up. Different story when I go to another course.

Not sure you can judge a golfer by belly size!

You mean John Daly in his prime?!

or

early Jack Nicklaus, who was called Fat Jack by many, not just Arnie fans.

You know, watching him recently on the Champions Tour has actually made me feel sad for him.  He looks really unhealthy and unhappy.  He really should take a break and focus on his health.  I was watching an old tournament last night when he was younger and he was a skinny guy.  To get this large makes me think something’s going on health wise.

I’m not a Dr., but last night I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, and I agree.

He either has fatty liver disease or excessive sugary food and booze. His liver is cranking out that fatty liver fat.

In 2025 that answer is still no.  The lpga tour is going to win any tournament they play against a scratch male golfer….by a lot.

I'm still kind of lost as to the point of this whole thing. If it's literally scratch as the line then there's nothing to see. The title is "scratch and below", so the question is, will this thing actually have some of the and belows when it happens?

There's a decent bit of difference in the two, especially over four days, and usually in the distance variance we'd expect from a scratch player to an LPGA player vs a plus player to an LPGA player.

If it's nothing but scratch no point in even watching.

Agree.  The lpga member wins most of the scenarios.  You have to caveating it with like scratch golfer with the length of Kyle Berkshire at the Mexico verdantix open course for them to have shot just because length is such a huge advantage their with very little penalty.

bottom line is any lpga member is likely going to roast  our scratch buddies, the local club champion, the waged out college stud golfer…..

Bjorn is playing really well this year.

  • First Champions Tour win
  • 5 top 10 finishes
  • $1.15 million in earnings so far

He always looks grumpy. But yes health wise its another story.

Was thinking of this thread this morning while watching Thitikul go driver-six iron (over the green) on the 484 yard par five 18th.  I’m sure that’s what most scratch WRXers would be doing…

Oh, and then she got up and down for birdie.  Easy peasy stuff.

And the 6 iron was too much club. She needed to hit a big 7 or a 3 finger 6. First time thru in the playoff was understandable, but she needed to adjust on the 2nd go and didn't.  C'est la vie...

I believe the tee was moved up to 454 yds.

So then she went what about 290 straight down the middle, then hit her six iron 180ish to wind up where she landed over the green?  Under the pressure of a major championship?

Both players had between 185 and 195 yards into the last on the 2nd playoff hole. Grace Kim hit a hybrid to 12' and Geeno blew her 6 iron just over the green left of the pin.

So let’s say Thitikul was 185 out, so she hit her drive 270 and then her 6 iron went about 195, since it went about 10 yards long of the pin.  Even further if the hole yardage was to the center vs the pin.  Both longer than the average scratch male golfer per Arccos data.  And she hit them both pretty dead straight, unlike the average scratch male golfer.

Not sure where he lives not.  If the US our food is in a lot of ways corrupted.  That's why there are so many obese people.  If he lives in Europe I'm not sure.
