Cage Match to the DEATH: LPGA Tour vs. Middle-aged Scratch and Below

Was thinking of this thread this morning while watching Thitikul go driver-six iron (over the green) on the 484 yard par five 18th.  I’m sure that’s what most scratch WRXers would be doing…

Oh, and then she got up and down for birdie.  Easy peasy stuff.

All the one's I've have argued that they would get their a** kicked hit is 300 carry 3 finger fades down the middle every single time. They never miss fairways. I bet if I actually had a convo with them they would say the reason they aren't on tour is because they dont practice! They never have a response to when I tell them they are closer to me(10 handicap) than a touring pro.

Im looking at the leaderboard of the most recent lpga event. 75% of the field finished at +2 or worse on a 6500 course

... Nelly Korda shot +4 on Friday on that 6504yds. Anyone think a scratch player has a chance of beating Nelly? 🫣

On that one day, seems so. Definitely out of character for her

... Bad day for sure but probably more accurate, many LPGA players struggled on that day playing a meaningful Major and a scratch player would be in waaaaay over their head.

Just watched the highlights at the evian… sorry…but it didnt look great for the ladies. 455 yard par 5 with whopping 147 ball speed off driver from leaders. The course setup looked -eh, not tough, no thick rough, easier pins, par 3s were pitching wedges and 9 irons. Looking at score card for that course, no way that was playing over 6400 yards or at at rating of max 71.

Wait, now we are making it D1 ladies vs. PGAT players??? 😵‍💫

If she’s going to pretend to be a +7.8 handicap, I think it’s only fair to have her face someone with a similar handicap.

I’ll take Jake and I’ll wager the largest number you know. She can have the .3 strokes.

I'm sure you realize that there is a difference between handicap indices of men and women. You are just trying to be sarcastic or something?

Not sure where he lives not.  If the US our food is in a lot of ways corrupted.  That's why there are so many obese people.  If he lives in Europe I'm not sure.

I dunno, the Champions Tour is filled with American’s who aren’t morbidly obese.  There’s definitely a lot of man boobage going on, but not much morbid obesity.  Bjorn looks like someone with serious health issues.  I mention it not to mock, but to express concern.  Someone close to him should be concerned.

Theres a running theme in this thread where people pretend that scratch players never have a good round

Good, as in LPGA pro good?  Rarely.  Maybe one or two of their 20. The other six rounds that count for their index are likely solid, country club low rounds.  The other 12 are classic amateur inconsistencies.

Anyone who plays regularly with scratch amateurs and then plays with elite female players, college or pro, and doesn’t walk away thinking that the elite women simply strike the ball differently (I.e, better and way more consistently) is either just not paying close attention or is purposely delusional.  I’m a solid five index and I can hang close with most of the scratch members at my club from round to round.  An elite female golfer would beat me so badly that I would need a session with a therapist before I tee’d it up again.  I know because I’ve actually played with some solid D1 female golfers and it’s comical how good they are compared to the average middle aged country club scratch sitting at the club’s bar running their mouth.

We’ve got a few middle aged low index/scratch ex mini tour players at our club that think they’re a swing tweak away from the Champions Tour.  Meanwhile, they’re not even breaking par at our country club most rounds and they NEVER win any of the club tournaments.  But with a gin and tonic in them at the bar, they’re the man!

I've witnessed a 2 handicap shoot 6 under. Steph curry as a scratch shot 71 on a web dot com setup. So a good scratch golfer in a good week would shoot around par

Yeah no way. Especially over 4 rounds. Scratch golfers shoot mid 70s and rarely if ever break par on a real course. Plus you throw in the gimme putts, lateral drops, noodling ball, breakfast balls and all the other stuff they do, no chance. I know, I know, the scratch you play with dont do that but I've played with so many of these guys and they all seem to do when I play with them. Now put the crowd and cameras out there..........

A scratch is closer to a 10 handicap than contending with these gals. They would have lost by 30 at Erin Hills and the Frisco major playing 4 rounds.

I understand you guys are taking up for the ladies but lets pump the brakes lol….We have already established some very data based conclusions. That a male scratch would shoot around the course rating 40% of the time. At these LPGA setups, thats around par. Many many lpga rounds above par. Kinda getting old hearing all the anecdotal experiences with a few rounds you played with a handful of scratches or a really good female once. That isnt evidence of anything.

A scratch shoots mid 70s and a few rounds in the 80s. You put them on the LPGA USO or the PGA this year they would have been 25 or more over par.
