TM Spider Mini

Finally tried the new spider mini at PGATSS today, while it looked ugly and I did not like the aluminum insert of the red head, it rolled the ball very well and the size of it is nice. Unfortunately feel and look are big for me so I passed.

 

If they only made it in black, with the black insert, slant neck, with a Sight line..

My mini showed up at my house today. It's definitely better looking in person, really like the "T" alignment. Feels more solid than the spider tours.

 

Please let us know how it putts. I'm tempted to order one.

 

I held one and really liked it the look and it seems solid, like it wanted to swing itself.

 

Putted really well with it. I don't mind the tours at all, I've been using them since they came out. But wanted something a tad smaller and with a sightline. I really like the "T". It's a firmer feel, but not as firm as the tour black insert. Definitely feels like there's more mass striking the ball.

Rolled one great in the store so bought it. Usually a bad idea, but I roll it just as good on the golf course. T alignment is really great. Insert is soft enough, and I find speed control to be a real strong suit. I can see this being a polarizing club. It isn't exactly beautiful. But I do love the smaller head size, and I like using it much more than the spider tour black I've used previously. Paint durability is still an issue though. When I took the plastic off the head there was already a chip in the red paint. These spiders are fragile.

I bought the red last week and just returned it. I really wanted to like it but I just couldn’t keep my path and pushed everything right. Probably cost me like 15 strokes over the last 5 rounds. Oh well felt great btw

I tried one at wrx, the dj spider seemed to work better. But I'm not sure it's different enough to justify the purchase.

I just im in the minority, I think it looks much better than the full size spider. I’m not a mallet guy but I could play this

These were my thoughts exactly. Tried one at GG last week and while I like the more compact head shape I hate the feel and red color. The insert feels terrible but maybe the GG turd putting green balls had a little to do with that feel.

 

I wish they would have just made the Spider Tour exact shape but this size. Id been all over it, assuming the insert was the same.

I guess I'm the only one that likes it. I want to see it with the slant neck though. T-alignment could be good for those having difficulties setting the putter correctly.

 

Agree, hoping for slant neck too. Trying it out out of shop I putted very well with it. I liked the T-alignment, something would have not thought would be beneficial for me. Kind of want to buy one now.

I really love mine. I like the firmer feel and heavier weight. I also have an Indy Exo and like this much more

Love mine, had it a little over a week. 33" Silver Mini, 3* flat with Superstroke pistol grip.

 

The T alignment is great for putts inside 10 feet. It has increased my confidence on the greens substantially.

I really like the Spider Mini. I tested the red one in 34 inch (they don't have the silver one).

 

I want to order the 35 inch in Silver.

 

Is there any difference in the Insert between the red and the silver Model? The Website says it should be the same, but can someone who hits both can confirm it?

If your main criteria is looks you buy a blade. I’ve never seen a truly beautiful mallet. But I buy for performance. If it works I learn to love the look.

I have to take back what I said earlier about the feel of the red head - decided to do a putter fitting after an initial great putting round with the Evnroll turned into 5 awful rounds. Went into my local 2nd swing for an iron/putter fitting. It was pretty cool to see my stroke on the cameras and then some data from the Ping putting app. We settled on the Spider Mini because I told him I like a compact mallet head and he said of all the putters the Mini has been great because of how forgiving it is and the overall roll of it suits a lot of people. After my first round of putts we saw exactly what I was seeing during my rounds - some skidding and the ball hopping after impact. He adjust the lie and then the loft down a degree, I think and I then hit every single putt center cup. While I dont love the red color I do love making putts. And that insert actually feels much better off a better ball then it did off the cheap GG balls. Bought it and practiced all day on my indoor green yesterday and Im very impressed. Hopefully I can get the speed and distance control down which is usually what I struggle with at first.

Nowhere in my locality has these putters stocked. Where does this aluminum 5mm insert rank in terms of firmness compared to the Spider Tour Red and Spider Tour Black?

That's a good question. I usually have trouble with soft inserts and thought yesterday this one felt firmer but Id have to grab the Spider Tour to be sure.

Just a quick update on my end. I found a retailer this morning that had these in stock. These putters definitely look better in person. The more compact design compared to the Spider Tour is quite appealing.

IMO, the insert is a tad firmer than the surlyn insert that is in the Spider Tour Red. To me, it has a similar firmness to the Spider Tour Black but it feels different. IMO, it’s a better different. They were kind enough to let me roll my Odyssey Works 7 crank hosel against it on their putting green. I found that I preferred the firmer Works insert so I will not be purchasing one of these.

As the Spider Tours have gotten a lot of love, I expect that these putters will work wonders for some people. I would highly recommend giving these a roll and not to immediately dismiss them due to what you may initially think about the looks. I might even get one as a back up if I do not end up liking my PING Vault Craz-E H that I ordered without even rolling first as nowhere has them in stock near me.

IF and that's a big if mine stays in the bag the rest of the season I'll be sending it to Continental Golf to get painted matte black. The red grows on you but I prefer an all black putter.
