Northern Michigan Spring Update - Hawks Eye Golf Club Review

A group of 4 buddies from high school drove "Up North" and played 36 holes at Hawks Eye.....I was trying to get their butts to go to Forest Dunes so we could play The Loop but they did not feel like walking :(

 

 

 

We arrived at Hawks Eye and were surprised that they were only charging $35 a round and they offer $25 replays all summer long. At these prices Hawks Eye is a MUST play and it appears they have their conditioning problems under control as this place was in great shape. The guy in the proshop said they opened a week ago and I could not believe how green the course was. The fairways were like hitting off a matt and the greens were in outstanding condition. I did not see a single dead spot on a green or fairway so let it be known that Hawks Eye is back and in EXCELLENT shape. If you are in the area please consider a round here as its one of the best courses in Northern Micigan. It cracks my top 25 best courses in state for sure!

 

If you want to experience elevation change then Hawks Eye is for you! There are plenty of downhill par 4's and par 5's that are simply amazing. They also have a number of holes that go uphill as well. Most of the holes make you feel like you're in a "tunnel of trees" and everything usually funnels back into the fairway. The greens were in excellent shape and rolled fantastic for this time of year. I am guessing in a few weeks they will be pretty fast. Now....these are not Forest Dunes greens but they get an A my book as they were true and rolled fantastic. Again.....no dead spots on the entire course and the fairways were just as good. Your approach shots need to be well thought out as they have alot of different tiers or zones that you need to hit the ball to depending on pin location so a replay round helps.

 

The great thing about Hawks Eye is the offer so many crazy deals even the in Summer. They offer $99 unlimited golf all summer long.....I think their twighlight rate is $30 and most days if you book online you can get a tee time for around $40-$50 during peak season which is a steal for Northern Michigan. They offer $3 cocktails, $2 beers, and cheap meal options.

 

I have played this course prob 10 times now and I agree that a year or two ago the course went through some conditioning issues......but rest assured they are taken care of and Hawks Eye is back......if you're in the area or on a golf trip make sure this course is a part of it.....they offer great rates and its in a very centralized location. From Hawks Eye your are only about 40 minutes from Gaylord, Traverse City, Aga-Ming and maybe a little over an hour to Petoskey so you can pair it with anything.

 

They said the snow just melted about 10 days ago but the trees had buds on them and a few trees even had leaves.......if your going to Northern Michigan soon then dont worry......the courses are looking great.

 

A week from now I will be playing 36 holes at Bay Harbor, playing the Art Hills Course at Boyne and Little Traverse Bay so I am confident that those courses will be in great shape as well.....Mother Nature is doing just fine and Northern Michigan is ready for another great golf season!

$60 for 36 holes felt like highway robbery. The pic shows the par 3 13th which has prob a 100 foot drop. Hit a shot within 3 feet and walked away with a birdie ??

Great news! We decided to splurge a little for our August trip to Shanty Creek and add Hawk's Eye to our schedule even though we basically could have played another round at one of the Shanty courses for free. Amd since we'll be teeing off around 3 pm I want to say it was only around $40. Can't beat that in August!

Played 54 there a week ago. The place is looking good, just don't get stuck behind a slow group. Times for 18 ranged from 3:30 to 5:30 for 18 in a 4some.
