Seriously though, I have worked in customer service since I was 15, thus I feel your pain. As someone already noted; no good deed goes unpunished. My favorite part of this story is the guy spends $1000s on clubs and $50 bucks puts him over the edge? Sounds more like buyers remorse.

Not at all. Regarding an earlier comment, I don't really have a problem with someone wanting to discuss something publicly and seek feedback. He didn't out the OEM he worked for, and I took at least part of this as being an attempt to reflect on what had happened.

 

I have employees as well. I don't let go the ones who were trying to do the right thing, but got an undesirable outcome. Rather, I let go the ones who were trying to get away with something at the expense of my institution and/or the stakeholders within. For me, this outcome seems heavy handed, but I understand I am only one voice in this thread.

Tell me you were expecting everyone to blow sunshine and daffodils up your keister on this one. Come on, man. You posted this breathtaking example of shoot-from-the-hip poor judgment. A pdf of this post is probably already flying around some OEMs email system and then will make its way around to other OEMs. Whats done is done. All of us make mistakes. Few of us endeavor to make them so public.

 

You're right. I'm fully capable of saying I can make mistakes. I was wrong for believing that helping the customer in those instances would end positively. I was wrong for posting this thread - not for the content, but you are right, posting (despite not mentioning any subjects) it was probably not the best idea. What I stand by however - is my commitment to doing, in that moment, what was right for the people I was helping. I understand why the OEM I worked for and I are no longer connected.

I do have to say it does sound kind of shady.....the while "None of these shafts work for you, but I have one in my car that will work perfect for you"

 

If my boss ever caught me doing that, I would be gone before they guy paid me.....

 

It's just not honorable, like others have stated, you represented a company.....its in your best interest to represent them! If you cannot fit the club to the person then tell them that it doesn't work and tell them that maybe a different route would work better.

I had to laugh at bad drug deal. In any other place where equipment ho'ing is commonplace like a drug ..this made sense.

 

I get it guys. I really do. During the fitting, I was wrong to suggest something we didn't have. I get that.
