Project x 5.5 vs Project x LZ 6.0

Can anyone compare the two on how they load and ball flight? Wanting to hear real world comparison either on the course or LM numbers off of grass. On the fence of what to do with a new set. Fitter here does t have an LZ shaft to try in AP3. Have regular 5.5’s now in my current set.

Pxlz are noticeably less stout than the regular PX, so hit them for sure. They seem to load easier. I'm used to playing 120gm shafts, but for some reason preferred the pxlz 5.5 over the pxlz 6.0. Launch is great ... I would say mid. Looks right to my eye. Spin was roughly the same (likely swing dependent though).

Even tho 5.5 will have less "flex" than lz 6.0, the LZ loads much differently .The two will not feel the same and are not for the same swing type. If you were fit into PX 5.5 and it gave you good numbers, the LZ probably won't be the most optimal fit. Still... Go try them out but just know what you're in for.

I wasn’t fit into the 5.5 but I hit them much better than any of the dynamic gold family. How would you explain the feel difference. I like Nippon but don’t want to pay the up charge Titleist charge

Loved project x, they gave me elbow pain though so I tried the lz, and I dont like them. Totally different shafts.

I don't believe the actual bend profiles are similar....in which case no matter what you do with flex choice, they won't play similar.

 

In my opinion, those who fit well into 'standard' PX, should almost always stick with that design. If you want to try something softer or firmer, just go up or down...or softstep with that design

Played PX 5.5 liked them but they are pretty stout and harsh. Switched to PXi 6.0 and liked them. Heard about the LZ and got a set to test them out. Played 5.5 LZ and love the shaft. Now the problem is that it’s an expensive shaft as I’m trying to find a set of AP2s in LZ to replace my PXi

Which is best for a moderate to smooth transition? Which shaft gives a higher launch on longer irons?

LZ 6.0 are noticeably heavier to me, not too, heavy but its noticeable. The LZ feel much better, dispersion was better and flight was a little lower for me on the course. I like the PX 5.5, I play the flighted in my Z745s and like them better than both regular PX and regular LZ, don't know why, just a good fit for me. The LZ will probably feel a little stiffer than the 5.5 but less harsh if that makes any sense.

Love Project X 5.5, like but did not love PX LZ 5.5, did not like PXI at all. Project X Rifle shafts fit my quick tempo. The Rifles are one of the greatest shaft designs ever created. I was fit into a 6.0, but I much prefer 5.5 or 5.0.

 

Also can recommend that if a PX Rifle ever feels harsh, or hurts your wrists or elbows, I say keep dropping in flex — and don’t hit them off mats. A 5.0 weighs the same as a 5.5. You’d be surprised how many big hitters could play a PX 5.0 iron shaft and suffer no dispersion damage. Players go too much by charts or get stiff in one shaft and then every shaft. They are not all the same and a slightly softer feeling shaft does not necessarily mean you are losing stability. What it can do is make it a little easier to elevate your long irons.

 

They have a stiff tip. Not good for slamming into mats. I had a really sore wrist. Went to grass range only, it went away.

 

It is odd that you like PX 5.5 but do not like any of the DG shafts. I would have guessed that a DG 120 stiff or 115 stiff could be a match. I don’t care for the XP95 lineup and I do like but don’t need the heavier S300. Shaft weight is a factor I notice a lot in shafts. I want them stable, but not boardy.

Yeah I'd agree that they're not that similar. I much prefer the LZ for weight, feel, and how it performed in every category for me.

 

If you can't try it in an AP3, why not try it in a different but similar head, like a JPX 900?
