Brooks is an example of letting a career play out

BearQ

Recommended Posts

So many on this board wrote Brooks off after some not so great play post US Open, then injury issues. The same stuff you hear/heard about Rory- he's not focused enough, he got his major he'll settle, doesn't practice enough, EVEN he doesn't care enough.

Here we are with a back to back US Open champ with absolute nerves of steel. Clutch shot after shot in the big moments. Too many times are we negatively forecasting a young man's career after a brief dry spell.

Let the career play out a bit, at least while a guy is in his 20's/30's. Such a long way to go.

He certainly was clutch down the stretch. His putts to save par were what separated him from Dustin and others.

He is a strong, confident and talented young man. Does not seem excitable either. Every chance he has more majors in him.

It was interesting watching him and Dustin walk the fairways together. Looked like a couple of high school jocks just cruising around. :)

And brooks need to change his swing slightly to hook proof himself for more majors to come. He gets too under the plane and not openning hips enough before impact, maybe he was abit nervious at the tee. In contrast DJ was so much more relaxed and excuted tee shots better. If brooks didnt miss 4 fairways he could easily end up with -2 or -3.

I agree that the wrist injury was a concern, but he played well after the US Open last year with a 6th at the Open and a 13th at the PGA, no missed Cuts in over a year, a win in Japan and some top tens. He has the second longest active made Cuts streak at the majors where his record has been better than anyone over the last 4 years or so. Silly to write him off.

You make a good point here. This often happens where players without much expectations often win big tournaments. Nobody has put the spotlight on Koepka for either major he has won. Whereas the likes of Fowler and McIlroy have had the spotlight on them since they turned pro. Not everybody can deal with that spotlight.

The OP is right. And don’t forget worst player to win a major: Tommy Fleetwood. Mostly forum members are hackers who believe we know a lot about the topics we discuss. Reality shows otherwise so we are so wrong about Koepka and Fleetwood but we’ll be waiting for the guys to have one bad tournament to get back at them.

As of now BK has more major upside than Yippy Spieth ... simply more talented and Spieth has to overcome the yips now

BK is so long accurate and has great touch

Too bad augusta is played every spring.

Because "If you miss this fairway there's no way you're going to hit this green..."

Some people here never cease to amaze me. Brooks wins 2 US Opens and here's a Golfwrx'er telling him he has to improve his swing. Geez, give me Brooks swing.....please....:)

I definitely think there is something to be said for the ET route, good way to get the ranking points and it surely helps the game to play the different conditions. Then there are the other challenges of being out of your comfort zone etc. must improve someone as an all-round player. It could be argued PGA Tour week-in week-out tournament setups are too samey and easy for the top players.

While the USGA undoubtably messed up I get the impression players are too used to certain conditions.

Fleetwood? Did you mean to say Danny Willett?

I know one thing, I can watch BK and DJ golf all day. 3 minutes of YJS on screen whining like a bratty 13 yr old and I want to turn off golf, so annoying

I think Spieth is away down a rabbit hole at the moment. Too wrapped up in talking things out with his caddie. I wonder sometimes if he's doing it for TGC mics or if he has genuinely forgotten how to play a golf shot.

DJ was class on Saturday, hands on hips waiting for piercy to tee off on 7. Piercy barely completes his backswing and there's DJ right in putting his tee in the ground. To know you're good and just step up and hit is great to watch.
