I'll argue at the very least the clubs should be at dicks to try. For me I am just not willing to try them anymore. The business model doesnt work for me

Since my Dicks sells golfworks supplies, this would actually make some sense.

Built a set of the TS-3 for my father in law to replace a set of 2016 Apex and they blow the Apex away in every regard.

I ended up with the TS1-iM as I needed some irons to replace a beat to crap set of 2016 Apex pro, and I didn’t want to break the bank as I’m waiting on this fall’s new Apex Pro to release. The Maltby product is better for me than any tech infused blade or closed cavity back I have tried including 21 Apex pro, Mizuno 225, Cobra Tech, and the TM P790 to name a few. Considered doing a combo of Ts3 and 4 for my set, but the IM won out. Fabulous set of irons that the new 2023 Apex Pro is going to have to really be special to kick these out of my bag. Kris and the folks at Maltby were a joy to work with as well 👍70610806254__D39EC11A-FAF1-473E-8B8A-257E2DA0BB07.jpeg.f982fdbe844d55cae76cf197d6bda6ff.jpeg

I have the OG TS1 irons and I've tried basically every single other hollow head iron on the market as the club builder at my club buys clubs like candy and always hands me ones to try on the Trackman. The TS1 are better than all of them. Better flight, forgiveness, ball speeds, looks, etc. Only the TS4 tempt me to upgrade.

It was tried at Golf galaxy maybe 15 years ago. Golfworks had its own little area with all the clubmakimg supplies and heads were stock in GG stores as well. It didn’t work out well as most of the GG customers viewed the heads as “clones” that couldn’t perform at the level of TM, Cally, and other major brands.

There was some of that, the Golfworks clubs then were not, for the most part, as well finished as they are now. Dicks definitely didn’t want the GW components in the stores. They believe in concentration on a few brands.
The Golf Galaxy near me was closed about a year after Dicks took over. Now there is a PGASS and a Golfdom within a mile of that location.

@Popeye64, you have a Mevo correct? How do you like it? My course is around the corner from my office now and I was thinking of getting one for for using at the range over lunch.

I've really enjoyed it for the money spent. I believe I'll be upgrading to the Mevo + as I'll be getting back into the shaft business, {Not Xcaliber}

I use it exclusively outside. I have no complaints. It has its limitations as long as you realize that going in.

Heck of a review. In the bag they give the look of a baller! Crisp and clean.

While realizing feel is individual, how does the IM feel to you compared to the others you tried?

Thank you🤙I like the minimalist look most but baller doesn’t suck either. No f’ng TUNGSTEN or superfluous script or badges. Super clean lines.

You really need to get a 7 iron built with your shaft and specs and make your own call on feel. I think they feel fantastic, the forged maraging steel face has a powerful feel but the rest of the forged club head and goo give it a balanced on the crisp end of forged feel, it is not artificially feeling soft like a PXG and not as soft as the Mizuno 225 w it’s copper underlayment but much easier to judge where you are striking it on the face and the soles are a 1000 times better for my angle of attack. Toe and heel strikes are easily discernible but not harsh. Hitting them on the button makes my toes curl😂

Spin and launch numbers are perfect for me, which is the main problem I’ve had w these closed cavity backs other than the porky soles on many of them.  My yardages are very consistent which surprised me as well with the maraging steel face.

My driver SS is in the 97-102 range with smooth transition. Spin is my friend, which is why the Epic Max is so good for me.   I have played good quality graphite in my irons for 20 years and I use the regular chrome soft ball for feel and spin. If you are a high swing speed and spin player that uses any of the X ball variants, your feel might b harsher than mine and might b better served with the ts-4.

It might do better now given the success of some of the DTC brands, but 🤔.  I would never under estimate the OEM snobs!

The major OEMs won't allow Dicks to carry thier own brand. If Dicks had Malbty on the shelves hardly any OEM sales would happen.

If it were based off looks and performance I think Maltby would do OK and potentially have a niche, but IMO it's good there is clear separation between OTR and custom built....because that's what Maltby would be at Dicks....OTR!

I remember after GG bought Golfworks that they did stock some of their items, but not a lot of depth.  When Dick's bought GG, they wanted no part of components.  In order for custom clubmaking to survive in their stores, they would need a dedicated area, charge a price for a fitting, order a custom club for evaluation and do a follow up with needed adjustments, then order the complete set.  The final price would be nearer to the OEM costs.  Most golfers would not value a real fitting vs the limited fitting you get with the OEM offerings.  in addition, Dick's would probably not dedicate the space, equipment and properly trained staff to do a proper job.

Isn't Tommy Armour Dicks store brand now? TAs quality doesn't seem to be nearly what Golfworks is, I would worry if Dick's actually released them as a full blown store brand you'd get too much influence from the higher up at Dicks. They'd take the TS3 and slap some polymer plates in it to match the Paradym irons.

Imo, GG should have GW clubs available. In the past, they did but in a half hearted manner. No need for Dicks to do same.

It's a shame new customers can't demo their products in a brick and mortar setting.

OEMs would survive😁 and would live with GW products in GG stores. It's not like there is a lot of b&m alternatives these days.

I think Maltby really nailed it on the profile of these. Top line, sole, and blade length are perfect! The transition from long to short irons is very subtle. These are no doubt blades in appearance, but with Maltby magic infused 🥰

Yes and in the past the Tommy Armour, the heavy putter, and Maxfli clubs were assembled at golfworks.

Largely agree with the above. Hit the OG TS1 against a bunch of comparable PD class irons from the big OEMs. Feel wise, the only one that was better (for me) was the Mizuno 223. Ball speeds were comparable to others. But the Rogue ST Pro was definitely "hotter".

Is the OG TS1 an outstanding head? Absolutely. Is it remarkably different than OEM comparable heads? I wouldn't go that far. But it's certainly every bit as good as any other PD iron out there. And dollar-for-dollar, there's nothing else I've hit that can compete when looking at price to performance.

I just ordered a TS4 9 iron to build and test out. I'm going to call it my 9 & 1/2 iron in my TS3 set. I've always struggled with gaps in the 8 and 9 iron area due to the fact that I add a touch too much dynamic loft in the higher lofted irons. I've always had a bigger gap than I'd like between my 8 and 9 iron, my 9 - Wedges just don't go the same distance relative to my other irons. I'm playing my current TS3 9 iron at 39* and now have a nice 12-13 yard gap between it and my 8 iron. It's now however moved the wide gap to my 9 and PW (9=145 carry/ PW=125 carry). So I'm going to weaken the TS4 9I by 1* and it should carry around 135. I will likely weaken my PW by 1* as well in order to get it closer to a 120 carry. I play 95% of my rounds at my home country club and find myself rarely utilizing my 3 hybrid. So a 9.5 iron will be a good situational club that can come in and out of the bag depending on tees being played. I'm going to face a lot more 135 yard shots than I will 210 yard shots based off where I'm normally hitting it on my course. I've tried to start thinking more outside the box on my set makeup and how it effects my gapping. I'm excited to see how this little experiment turns out.

I now have 5 or 6 rounds under my belt with my TS3's and they get better with each round. I'm absolutely loving these things, they're capable of handling any shot I want to hit with them. They feel amazing and are very consistent at hitting the number I need to hit.

My 9.5 iron TS4 experiment has also been a great success. I dropped my 21* UW and put my TS4 9.5 iron in the bag for the last 2 rounds and I honestly think it may be a long term decision. I've now had multiple occasions where I've had a distance that would have been in that new gap between 9 and PW, and the TS4 9.5 fit perfectly. I never hit my 21* on my home course, so it just makes sense to me to replace it with something I might very well use 3-4 times a round (as unconventional as it may be). I'm now itching hard however to build an entire set of TS4's, they're just so pretty and fun to hit. May sell my ZX7's and do that.
