I now have 5 or 6 rounds under my belt with my TS3's and they get better with each round. I'm absolutely loving these things, they're capable of handling any shot I want to hit with them. They feel amazing and are very consistent at hitting the number I need to hit.

My 9.5 iron TS4 experiment has also been a great success. I dropped my 21* UW and put my TS4 9.5 iron in the bag for the last 2 rounds and I honestly think it may be a long term decision. I've now had multiple occasions where I've had a distance that would have been in that new gap between 9 and PW, and the TS4 9.5 fit perfectly. I never hit my 21* on my home course, so it just makes sense to me to replace it with something I might very well use 3-4 times a round (as unconventional as it may be). I'm now itching hard however to build an entire set of TS4's, they're just so pretty and fun to hit. May sell my ZX7's and do that.

So having had plenty of experience with both the TS3 and TS4, with the TS3 clearly taking home the gold in the feel department between the 3 new releases, how would you describe the difference in feel between the TS3 and TS4.

I'm still trying to put my finger on the feeling of the TS4. It's not quite butter soft. It's nothing close to hard or clicky.. and it's still quite gratifying to hit. It's not so springy and hot off the face like the TS1 but it's powerful and almost explosive?

So far I've only hit it off of the hitting mat and am yet to get it on the course to see how they feel/react off the grass. I'm hoping to get out in the next day or so.

I think you absolutely nailed the feeling of the TS4, I feel the exact same. I would describe it as "crispier". It's not a Mizuno type blade feeling of the ball melting in to the face. I do get that feeling however with the TS3. The TS3 definitely has a deeper, more satisfying thump to it that just feels like you murdered it. I do think you will find that the TS4 gets better feeling off of real turf versus a mat thought. So far, the turf interaction with the TS4 is probably its biggest asset in my eyes. I find it incredibly easy to make center contact no matter the lie. I will also agree that I don't find the TS4 lacking at all in the distance department, it has plenty of pop to it for a blade.

I ordered a little half set of TS4s in 6-8-PW and they arrive tomorrow.

Seeing all these good reviews of TS3 making me think I could go 4-5 in TS3 and 6-PW in TS4.

All this after I have been playing i230s and loving them too.

I think that blend will work well. I don't find the TS3 long irons to be overly hot or too long. So I don't think you'll see any major gapping issues between the 5 and 6 iron. The TS4 lofts are what I would consider stronger lofted than traditional blades.

I will say that I too had the i230's, and I much prefer the lower bounce of the TS3. They sit much more flush to the ground and I'm finding turf interaction much more consistent than the i230's. The TS3 soles are still fairly wide in my opinion and are easy to take healthy divots with if you're a little steeper in to the ball.

It's likely the lower Actual Vertical COG of the TS3, that is allowing you to to arrive at impact with the COG more consistently underneath the center of the ball, which is required for pure solid contact and feel

I've really enjoyed it for the money spent. I believe I'll be upgrading to the Mevo + as I'll be getting back into the shaft business, {Not Xcaliber}

I use it exclusively outside. I have no complaints. It has its limitations as long as you realize that going in.

Thanks! I'd love to get the mevo+ but it's not in the budget and the Mevo gives me everything I need for outdoor practice. Have you ever used it for chipping practice? From what I've seen it seems to be the best in the price range.

It does do well with chipping. Very consistent.

I'll throw my hat in and ask is anyone has a Ts4 demo head they are wanting to part ways with? Perfer 7 or 8i but might be convinced otherwise

Hey Popeye, is the TS2 still the most forgiving head and friendliest sole design out of all the TS iron models so far ?

You didn't ask me but the TS3 has both a higher MPF rating (849 vs 727 for TS2) and a lower VCOG (0.691 vs 0.796 for TS2) which would suggest to me that TS3 is easier to hit?

Question for TS3 users. With the PW and GW at 44 and 48, respectively, curious how you are rounding out your bags. With the lofts as they are I am carrying a 52 and 56, kicking out the lob wedge or 3 wood depending on the course. Would like to hear how you’re set up.

If I were to get a set of TS3, I'd be inclined to set the lofts such that they run from a 21* 4i to a 49* GW.  On top of that, I'd choose one of the following configurations:  53/58, 55/60, 54/60, or just straight to a 56*.

It's something I've been contemplating, as those lofts are in a number of Maltby iron designs at the moment...

I'm currently going with a Cleveland CBX2 48* wedge, then Ping 2.0 Stealth 54 & 58, but I'm not married to that, it's just what I had from before the TS3's.  If I found a used Gap head in the TS3 I would buy it and sell the Cleveland.  Actually, I would really like to grab a rapid taper 115 wedge shaft to put in a TS3 gap wedge.  If I decide to stick with this, I'll bend the 54 to 53 to even out my gaps a little more.

So I had my first actual round with these yesterday with the TS4's. OMG what a phenomenal club! You are right about the turf interaction. I purposely played my favorite exec. It has a really good variety of par 3 holes ranging from about 125 to about 215 yds and everything in between. With the C-taper lite, I was getting a nice towering and VERY controllable and consistent flight. Every shot was a very slight baby draw but could also find a fade if needed

of the 11 par 3's on the course, I missed 1 green just short AND shot my best round at par (61)

As for feel, these things need to be out in the wild! They're not meant for confined spaces. They are made to run and stretch and have their limits tested. Hitting off the grass was so much more rewarding than off of the mat. Misshits are definitely noted but not crazy punished and still actually feel decent.

distance.. let's talk about distance. Coming from the OG TS1, I was a little concerned that I might be giving up a little and would need to re adjust my gapping.. NOPE! These things are plug and play from the TS1 in regards to distance. I'd even dare say that spin is better and I was actually able to hold these baked out AZ summer greens.

I can't wait to get these to a full size course!

If you happen to be in or around Chandler it's called Springfield GC. Right next door is another great track called Sunbird. If you're looking for a rollercoaster ride of an exec, Rolling hills in Tempe is a blast.

Oh, and I guess I wasn't very descriptive on my post. I have a set of TS4's.. BUT the way it looks you can't go wrong with the TS3's.. ot TS1 IM's either. This is shaping up to be a knock out year for Maltby!

I don’t have a set of TS3 but I play an old set with a 48* PW. The 4* gapping is one reason I am drawn to the TS3 as distance is not a need and I am used to 4* until around the 5i. That PW is about 125-130. So I play a 52* and 56* and sometimes a 60*

I made my decision based on the overall construction of the head (4's not being a 3 piece head) as well as the 4's having not as strong of lofts as the new TS1-IM's. I also had the original TS-1's, and based on the new reviews, there was not a whole lot to gain with them.

Love my 4's, couldn't agree more with all the reviews and comments above. Really forgiving, with great turf interaction with a ton of pop.

I am in chandler! Im a big fan of all three of those places, Ive played sunbird several times. for the price in the summer you cant really beat it! Rolling hills, despite being short, is a challenge, a lot of elevation changes. Such a fun track for the price as well.

It's getting to the point of splitting hairs. In my mind the TS2 was more responsive when hit all over the face. The TS3 has some great help with all that weight down low. But to me that TS2 works better for poor strikes.

Hey Popeye, do you have any head comparisons pictures of the TS2 vs TS3? Top line and sole specifically? Thanks!

Ed-  I have the ts-3.  I have paired them with SCOR 4161 55 and 59 wedges with good gapping.  That and a 54-58 TSW I play also.  No gaps for me..

I have a ts3 8 iron head I’d sell, if anyone wants to test.  I’m sticking with TE Forged, I like the head shape better , thinner top line, less offset to my eye.

but I’m curious about ts4 and ts1-Im.  They both look very similar, how do you choose?

I handled them both when I stopped by GW to pick up my TS1-IM 7 iron for testing. TS4 honestly looked better in the pics than in person (IMHO). Don't get me wrong. It's a solid looking iron. Just felt the IM looked better to me.

Personally, as far as choosing goes, I think the IM makes the most sense. Played blades for the past 15+ years. Scratch, but I'm no tour pro. Came to the realization that the players who have the most to gain from tech/forgiveness are players like me (low handicaps). My misses aren't huge. But with a blade, they still are punitive. With a head that's got a little more forgiveness, the slight misses turn out much better.
