Anyone have extensive experience with any of the maltby woods? Thoughts? Looking for a deeper 5 or 4 wood. Currently set with my Wishon 7w but want a deeper face wood.

I picked up a IST Pro 5W a while back, and made it into a about a 4.5W (+1/2" shaft, loft turned down).   I really like it for tight tee shots, in part because I set aside my old 3W and needed something, but I struggle to hit that deeper face off the turf.  I have defaulted to using my KE4 3H as my longest club from the fairway.  It's only about 15yards less, but much easier for me in terms of solid contact, so it's ok.   But if you like that style I'd say give it a try.

For comparison the previous woods were ping G20 and were the thin/flat style.  I had basically taken them out of the bag because the shafts were too whippy, not because the head was a problem.   As I'm writing this, realize I should grab one of the new maltby shafts and try it with that head...

Yeah my plan is the 5w turned down to 4w with a shorter shaft, strictly off the tee 90% of the time. Might give the 7w a shot as well but it'd take a lot to kick the wishon 7w out of the bag. I can't hit the 7w from the rough though, it's way too shallow and the amount of t imes i've popped it up with that club is mind numbing so the deeper maltby might just work. Gonna give the new shafts a try as well.

The KE4 tour tc 5w is deceptively deep. Prob gonna start seeing price drops on it too with new stuff coming down the pipe.  I’m loving it right now. I don’t love the top line but it’s a common theme anymore. Shoot me a pm and I can send some pics if you want.

I have the KE4 Tour TC 4W and really like it.  The problem was there was only approximately a 5-10 yard gap between that and my 18* Cleveland Hywood (Which that club will not leave my bag).  I bought a KE4 TC Pro IST 3W with the OG MPF shaft.  The first few times using it I was not hitting it right so I adjusted it +1* square setting (setting #7) that is only 1* different than the 4W and is my got to 2nd tee option.  Since I've gotten used to the club I'm going to bring it down to the stock setting 14* and hopefully use it as my fairway finder mini-driver.

Since I'm OCD when it comes to clubs before I pull the trigger I have a DRT A Grind question if anyone would know.

- Since the 60* won't be available until August and the 58* Max Milled 1.05 really can't be opened flat, would the DRT 56* A grind be able to be "Opened Up" for that 5-10 yd. flop shot over a bunker to a short sided pin?  I have the TSW DRM 56 and 50.  They can be opened up but they also dig.  I can't hit the 56 out of the sand, hence the Max Milled which works wonderfully out of the traps.

I would say yes, but it's always going to be lie dependent. With a decent lie in the rough, sure. From a tight fairway, not so easy.

Early use says no. I went back to my ping i59 58* and my Cleveland rx6 54*. Much better for me.

Thanks!  I have a Kirkland Gen 1 60* that I have that's like an 8 bounce that I've used successfully in the past for that type of shot.  I'll just put that back in the bag for those once a round shots that arise.

Played today, and really liking the TS4's. For the most part, I struck the ball very well today, and they felt much softer than my initial impressions.

And I can hit these way out on the toe, and still get towering baby draws that land on the front fringe. 😍

Now you are speaking my language...  toes balls galore with the irons lately.  What would you say you lost on toe hit with these, 10yds?

With a mid iron, yeah, about 10 yards. Very stable through impact though. Not sure if the shafts play a role in that, but I'm really liking the Dart V's as I get used to them.

How are the TEs on toe strikes?  The Dart shaft has my curiosity as I consider moving to graphite sooner than later.

Not exactly new news, but I played a round today with some new golf friends and they were shockingly in the opposite camp of many here: they LOVED the way my Maltby woods sounded. Particularly the TC Pro Driver, which I know many here wish sounded differently. Yet another funny little chapter in the subjective preferences of Maltby users. 😅

I am 2 rounds in with my drt 54 a grind, which has replaced a tsw 54.

The drt feels safer on full shots with front grind but I can't manipulate the face like I could with the tsw. The drt actually feels a bit cumbersome.... can't quite put my finger on it. It's like it doesn't want to be slid under the ball.

Maybe I (and you!) need the S grind?

I felt the exact same way. For full shots I was good but anything where I open the face, no good.

That was my issue with the 58 A-Grind.  Fantastic with a straight face and a miracle in bunkers.  But I never felt like I could open it up completely unless I had a little cushion underneath.

I was coming from a Jaws CC C-Grind and then Mack Daddy 4 X-Grind which are fantastic grinds.  Great with a square face and they don’t dig but I could open them dead open for a flop on a tight lie.

I think I'm going to grind the sole pf the drt to make it look like the tsw grind.

Nothing to lose, for me it's unplayable as it is amd will just gather dust...

I am more than interested to see the S-grind.  I am hoping it is just what I need and want.   The DRT are WONDERFUL from sand, very good from normal lies and the jury is out still on tight lies where face manipulation/grind come into play.   They certainly are NOT the TSW where the scalpel like leading edge allowed some great results in tight lies-- BUT-- were real diggers in soft conditions.

I have played the DRT for the past eight rounds.   I have them shafted in AXE RT- 115 wedge-58, and 105- 54.   Reg Flex.   I really like them.   I have been able to dial in distances more and more.   My sand play has been FANTASTIC.

I could foresee playing one of my wedges in the S-grind...   I certainly look forward to trying them.  It will give me four sets of Maltby wedges.. LOL

I'm interested in the DRT Wedges, can someone explain the difference between the A and S versions?

I'm looking for a 56° and they both have the same bounce. Thanks.

It's the grind.  The S is supposed to have more relief to have lower effective bounce than the A grind.  Unfortunately, it looks like the S grinds are backed up until September due to a variety of factors.
