Curious for the old schoolers here who hit the MMB .... How you'd compare the ts4 to it 🤔

I played the MMB-17 and the MMB Blacks for quite a few years when I was still really good. As I played less I really began to struggle with those heads. Getting too steep would kill me unless I was in country club grass. Then they would glide right through.

With the improved sole of the TS4 I'm hoping the TS4 is everything I wanted the MMB to be. The TS3 vs TS4 vs TS1M should be very interesting.

Won't be able to build them till next Thursday. I hate waiting.

Any chance of a combo set for you, if that TS4 sole is to your liking?

Wondering if the BBGM of the TS4 is similar to the TS3.  Looking at pics, seems like it could be.

Has anyone checked?  Apologies if it's already been answered and I've missed it.

Wish i was home to look because that was my thought. I'm going to try and CPM match all three heads along with swing weight. So the shafts will perform as close as possible.

So if that BBGM is close to the TS3 I won't have that be an issue going forward.

Before I build them I may do some steel shaft mock up testing to see the frequency differences of the three heads.  Maybe even weight match the heads with some tape.

Played 9 holes with the IMs and the 4s. They performed great, and are both staying in the bag, replacing the OG TS1s. As I already noted, the IMs are almost identical to the OGs, outside of look on the rear and finish on the face. But they look spectacular. And, if anything, the added foam does seem to have kept the IMs very quiet, even with the new material face, which I personally like. The TS4s, to my game, do play a bit better than the OG TS1s in GW and PW, although not by a wide margin. More specifically, I found that I could flight the GW with a bit more control and zip with the 4s, with less effort. Also, I like to use the GW for a variety of shots, and the head shape of the 4s suits this sort of shotmaking better for me than the OGs. A few extra photos for fun.

This is some great info and definitely gives me warm and fuzzies that I made the right choice.

I just went all in on the full set of TS4's 5-GW in hopes that at the least they would perform similarly to the OG TS1's. Even if they're marginally better, I'm a happy camper.

@Spinozistis there any noticeable difference in the blade length with the TS4 from the others? Looks like it's possibly a hair shorter?

I'm so unbelievably excited to get my TS4's in!

No difference in blade length. There is a slight difference in finish, with the TS4s being lightly more matte.

Anyone have experience with the new irons in the Kuro Kage Black 2nd Gen shaft? Only graphite shaft offered in the paks. Looking for info on how the shaft plays/feels. Could do a custom order but price can balloon pretty quick.

Wow…the finish really does hold up well! My DBMs should arrive next week and I am getting excited.

I tried to find some old pics with no success. The paint fill is really easy to remove with a cotton swab, acetone, and then rubbing alcohol for a deep clean. I then added a metallic silver paint that looked really sweet. That was 3 years ago though.

I'll repeat his words. 2 years of play will show nearly zero wear. Plus with the lack of coating over the grooves they stay sharp.

I sold a set of PTM Blacks with 2 years of heavy use. I wiped them down with WD40 and they looked new.

The DRM wedge heads are just as resilient to wear.

I should add that I never practice or hit range balls.  Just go from car to the 1st tee.  It's possible that sandy range balls could result in some wear.

I had GW build a TS-3 test club with the KK in 75g R flex. Standard graphite length and 1*flat for my neighbor. He absolutely loves it. He let me test it on the course yesterday. Here’s the scoop:

Traditional country club with tight firm fairways. I only walked 9 but of course found extra opportunities to hit it.

I swing driver around 108 and typically play heavy and stiff in everything. After 10 disastrous swings on the range I realized I was transitioning too hard for this shaft. After a conscious effort to smooth the transition, holy crap it came to life.

Just easy consistent strikes and yardage with a fade bias. So pure. Perfect flight and height.

Once on the course it was 5 for 5. A low flighted 3/4 cut under tree canopy from 145 for a GIR. Smooth full 165 to 15’ on a par 3. Perfect 160 yard layup on the par 5 out of juicy rough. Another smooth 165 GIR on a par 3 to 20’. Lastly, a perfect 3/4 150 to a tucked pin on the upper tier.

Now I’m questioning why I play heavy stiff steel…..

Thanks for the info. Do you think in S flex it would have held up your standard swing? Those 5 on the course shots sound impressive!

So I believe they will let you substitute any shafts that are in their other iron paks with just the shaft to shaft price difference.  I've been able to get sub Maltby MPF into paks when only the KKB2G was available.  So the MPF, M890 or the Rapport would be your graphite options.  They've always been awesome on the phone.

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of updating my clubs to either the STi2s or TS2s. I'm currently using the titanium/tungsten Callaway big Bertha irons from '97. I usually shoot in the low 90s/high 80s and hit my 7 iron around 150yds. I hit my FILs old Mizuno MX-19s the other day and was really surprised how forgiving they were on mishits, but they launched even higher than my clubs and I lost done distance. Anyways, it made me wonder if I'm missing out by using really old clubs, even if they were nice in their day. Any thoughts/advice?

Here’s a 4-5 year old DBM with a lot of sandy range practice.

I was going to say the same thing! I don't have 5 years on mine, just 6 months. The ones that never saw sand look like @brew4eagle DBM's. A couple of range sessions before playing on a sandy surface and you get this -

A few questions that may or may not have been answered in this amazing 146-page thread. Long may it live!

1. For combo purposes, is this the order from most forgiving to most player: TS2, TS1, TS1-IM, TS3, TS4.

2. With the hosel depth on the new models, if I went straight in with the Score LT shafts trimmed to stiff, would they play like an x-stiff or simply a little stiffer than typical? I like those shafts, but the stiff feels like a reg to me.

Want to try my hand at building a combo set. Looking at TS1-IM long irons with TS3 or TS4 short irons, unless new info changes my mind. Thanks for any tips.
