Cupping left wrist (RH swing) - fixes? Drills?

Noticed that I cup my left wrist in my backswing (opposite of DJ) and have been working on ways to get it to be more flat.

 

Weakening my left hand grip seems to help some....but feels weird and is leading to some bad results.

 

W/out posting a video of my swing here (can if needed), has anyone fought this?

Typical issues causing it?

Typical fixes?

Drills?

 

I can kinda get it flat if I'm practicing and staying very away of it. And, if I consciously cup my right wrist...

But revert back when striking a ball after a few terrible shots.

I do the same and would love to get rid of it as I think it's a prime reason for my right misses.

More right wrist bend and this drill helps some too.

It generally is the result of a strong grip, I guess DJ would be an anomaly in that regard. If you have a strong grip and want the club face aligned with your left arm at the top, the wrist will be a bit cupped. You could work with a Swingyde and try to make your grip more neutral. That aid helped me get a very good sense of where the club face was during the swing and how it was supposed to be aligned.

Just be aware that if you keep your grip strong this will only reinforce the cupping action. You can play around with the alignment I suppose to influence different things.

It's difficult (for me anyway) to "motorcycle move" the left wrist - consciously. But cupping the right wrist is easily done. It seems like a much more natural/athletic move to c0ck the right wrist. Something that needs to be done when you throw anything really.

Is there a downside to that?

Seems like holding that angle with the right wrist...in order to help the left wrist bow...leads to it being open at impact. And then I'm right back to where I started - having to time the release to get to square. When it's on, great....but when off, it's just way inconsistent.

 

idk... maybe I'm just grasping here to find some semblance of consistency at release/impact.
