Vokey Bore Depth tinkering for feel?

Hey all,

 

So as I started to play different courses in my area this year and I found the need to hit full shots from 135-125 yard distances. I currently have 52, 56, 60 SM6 Vokey wedges. The 52 and 60 are shafted with S200's at a D5 SW, and I just re-shafted my 56 with an S400 to test, and the results have been really poor. I can chip and pitch fine with it.. but when I need to hit a full shot around 125ish, I just cant execute with the 56. My 52 at 135 on a full smooth swing is perfect.. But i cant say the same for the 56.

 

I like heavier shafts, and that's why I went with the S400, however, i am thinking what if I inserted the shaft only to 1.25" instead of the almost 1.75" stock depth of the bore.. Maybe this will give me the more lively feel of the S200 with the added weight of the S400?

A better idea than "short boring" it would be to get a DG S400 8 iron shaft and put that in, it will have a 1/2" longer tip section to effectively do the same thing, or even go 7 iron shaft if you want to.

 

Only issue with it is since you are starting with a longer blank you will be cutting more off and will loose about 2g compared to the 37" wedge blank.

That's a great idea.. I forgot about Tiger stepping or whatever they are calling it these days.. That could be a great solution
