Vokey Wedge Grind Similar to Ping Eye 2 Lob Wedge

Recommended Posts

I used to play a Ping Eye 2 lob wedge back in the day and LOVED the versatility of the grind. If only it didnt have the hosel offset it would have been perfect. Are there any Vokey wedges that have a grind that would play similarly to the grind on the the Ping Eye 2 lob wedge?

Is it the V grind that would be most similar?

The Callaway PM Grind would be your best bet, it was basically made because Phil loved his Eye 2 LW so much.

I cant stand both the high toe (even though the eye 2 kind of had it) and the groves all the way across. I was hoping for something with a similar grind but more classic shape and classic groves.

I tend to have a steeper swing so need the higher effective bounce but also like the ability to be able to open up the wedge around the green. I thought that the D grind might be the fit but even though it has higher bounce it seems to me on square shots to play with less effective bounce.

I don’t like the full face grooves either, I’m with you there, I could live with the high toe though because I do find My miss is higher on the toe on open faced shots around the green.

Maybe the M Grind in a Vokey would suit your needs, has heel and toe relief and plays great open or closed, Full swings with it need to be precise but it’s a lob wedge so likely not going to be swung full out much. It’s a great all around Grind for short game.

Vokey had three grinds in 60* that were available at retail but not advertised or listed on the website at the time. The "P" grind had a concave bottom similar to a sand cup. It's probably a tour only type wedge these days.

D grind is the higher bounce M grind so would be more suited for me, but i still think that when it is square at address on full shots it plays with a lower effective bounce.

Didn't you listen, the guy wants an excuse to buy a Vokey. Don't mess with him, enable him :)

I would be open to a Callaway or TM wedge etc...considered the TM high toe because like the grind but I still cant get over the high toe and full length grooves.

I would buy Ping ES grind. Vokey, nothing really compares, M grind has some of the characteristics, but they are not the same, I have played both extensively and I will say the M grind is a better grind for my game.

What about the TM TP ATV Grind? Similar without the High Toe. Not the original ATV with the Tongue but the new ones for last year or the year before. I had the OG ATVs and the grind was great, they were just fugly as ole hell.

I am not adding much value here given your disdain for the looks of the Hi-Toe and PM grind, but I just put away my M Grind Vokey's and will never not play a PM grind in my 58/60 ever again. I cannot express enough to those who haven't played it how unbelievable it is from a pure performance perspective. Good luck with your decision.

Ive been playing a 61 Eye 2 wedge. I am ok with it but horrible out of the sand for me. I bought an Vokey SM 7 58 degree D grind with 12 degrees of bounce and love it. It is money out of the sand and when used properly a great club in other areaa as well. I also have a steep attack and play wet turf so it made sense.

I played the M grind Vokey for a while; I have the 60 D grind bent to 59-11. The D is easier out of bunkers but the ES is also great out of bunkers and more versatile in all conditions. The Eye 2 Grind equivalent is the ES Grind.. Have you thought about using a Ping Glide Stealth ES Grind and putting some lead tape for more swingweight, or just ordering the Ping with a heavier shaft? I did that for a while between my 50 and 60 SM7 and played the 56 ES. And then I said, what the heck and bagged 2 more Pings after selling the SM7 to someone who loves Titleist. Just a thought. Good luck.
