I have made a new putter, a Pure Fit head with a Graman Limey 540 XX shaft cut down to 34 inches...anyone know if Graphite shafts are good for putting? Thoughts please....Thanks

I have one in my ping G5i but it is an old school Aldila putter shaft made for putters, I like the feel of it. Your xx stiff might be to stiff as it is not made for that application.

Kevin

similar to this one, but black

Full graphite can feel too dead for some. Also, weight and sometimes kickpoint issues.

I have used 2 putters with graphite shafts, I used a Yonex putter that the head was milled out of carbon graphite and the shaft was a Yonex graphite shaft. It was a very expensive putter for the time (Early 90's) and it cost $250, I used this putter for quite a few years and it was suprisingly a very solid putter and at the time Yonex made the finest Graphite shafts. I also own a Palombi 006 Proto that has a G. Loomis Tour graphite shaft installed in it from George Palombi, this shaft is also a very high quality shaft but I have been thinking of putting something else in it, or at least I have thought about it, but the shaft doesnt feel bad it's just different. I have been thinking of trying the UST Frequency Filter shaft in a Ping Redwood Zing from Ping WRX department, I beleive its a hybrid (S & G).

I own one of the Phil Mickelson Yonex with the graphite shaft. It is the best feeling putter that I own. But the chrome on it is so bright, that it is hard to putt with on a sunny day. I have a Scotty Newport Tei3, a Scotty Newport Longneck Tei3, and Newport Beach with the sound slot in it. A scotsdale anser, a scotsdale my day. And a Ben Crenshaw remake of the 8802, from 1984. They all measure 34 inches from the butt end of the club to the heel of the club. This is the old way to measure. If you measure them all to the center of the club they are 34 and 1/2". The graphite shaft makes the Yonex a really hot putter. It does have a kind of spring off the face due to the kick point in the shaft. The Yonex is very easy to putt with on fast greens. But on slower greens, that you have to have a firmer putter stroke with it tends to go off in your hands at times.

I can't believe a Fuji graphite shaft in a Cameron tour putter commands an extra $600 or so. That is plain nuts. I am very happy with True Temper steel. Honestly, I think sometimes people try to make the game more complex than it is.

;) Every time I see that I go nuts. There was a pull out on eBay and it sold for almost $600.

Hello,

In the last 6 months I have seen quite a bit of interest in the Fujikura Speeder PT 110 Putter shaft especially in 350 gram and heavier heads. It does have a softer feel than steel, but still provides good feedback. The PT 110 weighs close to steel at 105-110 grams and has a very smooth release at impact. For comparison purposes it would flex out around Rifle 5.0, so it does not feel stiff.

I have a C&L 350g putter and Chip installed the Fuji Speeder PT 110 shaft in it as the length of my putter is 36 inches. The shaft lightened up the swingweight of the putter perfectly for me. It provides good feedback with a less direct feel (ie softer) than steel. It is working very well for me.

 • 3 months later...

I will soon have my second Palombi 389 w/ a G Loomis Tour graphite shaft. I love the feel and look of the black shaft. I use a rotation of putters because I have quite a few (I'm guessing som eof you are in the same boat).

I think I can feel the head, shaft, and grip more as one unit w/ the graphite shaft. They seem more connected than do my steel shaft putters.

I'm awaiting my second C & L putter too, but I think at some point I'll need to try the PT 110 fuji too.
Callaway tried this a decade or so ago. I certainly didn't see the point then. I guess no one else did either as it disappeared from the market pretty quickly.
And many Japanese companies tried it over 20 years ago. I have several Daiwa, Yonex, Bridgestone and Honma putters with the graphite shafts. It seemed to be dead for quite a while till Cameron put them in a putter for sale in Japan again.

Tour Lock is working with SK fiber to make a graphite shaft. It's 60grms @ 35" and has a large inside diameter that supports a moveable internal weight. They offer a 50grm weight which replaces the lost weight from the graphite, but now you can adjust and optimize how the over all putter feels, and alter how the putter head releases. It's curretly being shown at the PCS, and the PGA show in a Sizemore putter. Pics on request.( no pics. of the Sizemore yet).

yes...or I wouldn't own one. The downside on them..chrome finish. You'll need sunglasses. :)

I bought a DAIWA ProBalance when I was living in Japan, complete with a Graphite shaft... It was used and wasnt that expensive.

I have 3 Ping Ansers of differnet years, 2 Camerons (Studio and Newport), and I CONSISTANTLY go back to my Daiwa???

Of all the putters it is a constant. I can Lag to within inches, it feels realy good and seems much easier to put straight.

My Camerons and Pings stay in the garage now...

Go figure

Is it true that the graphite plays light when cutdown? I really want one of these Yonex but I play my putters short (32.75') and hate to ruin a sweet flat stick. Anyone know the head weight?
