Sending irons to PING for lie adjustment

Hey guys,

I have heard Ping will adjust lofts and lies on irons for free if u send your set to them. Has anyone done this? If so, what is the turnaround time, and do you have to do this through an authorized retailer? May be buying a pre owned set locally, so didn’t know if my local retailer would even do that since it was not purchased from them. Thanks.

Fill out the form or just call Ping and talk to them and they will take your specs and give you a #.

When I sent my G700's in they charged for the loft and lie adjustment and then you had to ship them to Ping and pay $14 or return shipping. My charge from Ping was $44.84 for 5-P (6 clubs or $5/club) Plus whatever I paid to ship them which was probably another $15-$20.

It’s definitely not free unless you bought them new and they made a mistake in your specs. As someone else suggested, you can send them directly to ping yourself. They don’t have to go through anyone. Call pings customer service number for info about it.

I’d personally find a competent local shop and have them done for about 3 bucks a piece. Anyone with a loft and lie machine can bend them.

Being a non forged club I would definitely send to Ping for adjustment. I've heard the stainless Ping's can be difficult to bend.

That’s a false tale told by people that probably have zero experience doing them. It’s just as prevelant as the “irons have memory” one. Are they a harder metal? Yes. Do they bend just fine? Yes. Any good machine and a good bending bar and it’s a non-issue.

Back in 2011, I sent my i5's to Ping and had them completely refurbished. Loft, lie, finish, medallions, scoring line, grips; the works. They had over 1000 rounds on them, came back looking gem mint. Ping charged $16/per club, and the turnaround was two weeks door to door.

At that time, you could only work thru a Ping retailer, though they would drop ship the clubs back to you after the work was done; glad to hear that you can self-ship now. Also, it's worth considering that Ping keeps records of all of this stuff and stands behind their work like nobody else in the industry. If somebody else bends your clubs and there's a problem, it's possible that you are voiding what Ping normally does for replacement.

Restating what golfnut said.

PINGS CAN BE BENT QUITE EASILY BY ANYONE WITH A DECENT MACHINE..

ANY iron can be bent for loft and lie. Some finish coatings may be negatively affected by more than a couple degrees, but they ALL can be bent.

How does everyone think they do it at the factory when you custom order?? Voodoo? Magic incantations?? They bend them. Irons are not MADE in different lie angles, they are bent.

Also mentioned. “memory”. Irons do not have memory. Once they are bent, they are bent. Forged clubs loft and lie can migrate over time from a great deal of use and especially from hitting on mats, but they do not have a “ memory “.

Does anyone know if you can specify certain specs/lie angles or do they have to be exactly one of the “dot” specs? I.e. exactly blue or black dot lies or can I request 61°, 61.5°, 62°, etc.

The only time it is free is if your Ping fitter has made an error and an alteration is needed.

They can bend to a specific number.  You just have to tell them what lie and loft you want.  Now, if you want something that isn’t within their ability to do, they will tell you.  i.e. trying to bend more than 4 color codes from where they started from.

Thanks, I was wondering because I play well off of Titleist standard, so I want to get my i210’s bent the same way.

If cast stainless and older, you might want to have them locally bent or bend them yourself if you have the proper equipment.  Ping adjusts lie angles via a hammer/mallet and broke a few of my S59s that I had sent them.  I subsequently bent them myself (once I got the proper equipment) - and many other cast stainless Pings subsequent thereto - without issue.

Yes you can and they will as long as you don't exceed the limit(s) Socrates referenced in his latest post. They'll even paint it the new color they have altered it to.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Well respected clubmaker in the Twin Cities area told me he absolutely loves bending Pings, even the classic 17-4 Pings.  His comment was that they heat treat the metal such that it's much easier to bend than your standard 17-4 stainless.

There is nothing easy about bending Ping's.  Even with the metal in normalized condition, which is the softest condition, the metal is still quite strong so it takes some real effort to bend.  The bending notch helps but it can only do so much.

I didn't say it was easy, just easier than "standard" 17-4.  Again, not *my* experience, but that of a local clubmaker.

A lot of it has to do with the quality of the 17-4 steel.  Not all companies monitor the foundries as well as others.

I've sent two sets back over the years and it was never free. It was fairly cheap considering it was done correct and keeps the warranty intact. The turnaround time was quick also.

It use to be free back in the Ping Eye2 days and maybe a little after that…my last set I sent back were Ping i15 irons but I can’t remember what they charged, I do know it was very reasonable. My son just sent a set of iBlades back to be refinished and it was $15-18 a club.
Their customer service is not as good as in the past but it’s still the best in the business.

iBlades are chrome plated.  There isn't much of anything Ping (or anyone else) can do to restore them other than maybe bead blasting the outside to hide imperfections.

Anyway, I agree that Ping is best.

It's my understanding that their repair department gets a priority as compared to production which is backed up badly these days.  I don't know how long it would take to get some clubs bent but I suspect it won't be overly long.

Reviving an old thread...Bought a replacement SW that was orange dot (2.25* flat) but needed yellow dot (1.5* up).  Inquired about bending at the PGA Superstore. They said they don't bend Pings but could send it in for me to Ping in AZ for bending.  Shipping both ways via FedEx would be free and it's only $3.60 per club.  Away my 2016 Ping G iron went. A week later it was ready for pickup.  Bonus, it was re-dotted to yellow.  Great service from both the PGA Superstore and Ping. Nice!

Free shipping sounds like a mistake.  Glad it worked in your favor.

Free shipping usually only occurs when the set (club) has been improperly fit and there needs to be an adjustment.  They might have misrepresented the reasoning behind the change or stretched the truth.  Sort of like landing on Community Chest in Monopoly and getting a "Bank error in your favor" card.

I am baffled that shops don’t bend Ping irons. I would have a hard time trusting them to do any repair. Ping bends as easy as anything and they might be the strongest metal in any iron head hence Ping beating the hell out of them with a mallet so breakage isn’t an issue

It's because there aren't many qualified staff to do repairs.  Most know very little and the shops don't want to break anything because they know they no nothing.  Adams and TaylorMade are far tougher to bend than Pings were/are.  Ping wants them to send everything back to them.  Which is fine, because if they break one, they can replace it immediately.  Not so much if you are located in butt hole, nowheresville.
