Jack Nicklaus Golf Courses

Was looking at Jack's website and see that his company has 410 courses built and another 57 in development. Thats got to be some record. I have only played six of them, never realized how relevant he still is to golf. Excellent career. Any thoughts on playing his designed courses.

He loves left to right holes!!!! Generally speaking hes not flashy.He likes doing what the land tells him to do.I find his courses very fair usually with bailouts on one side. the green complexes are usually multi tiered.

Im a fazio guy though. that guy has brutal tracks

I like the fact he generally keeps the fairways wide and makes the shot into the green the challenge. I also think he does a good job designing short risk reward par 4's.

I think if he had filled in the left side he could have extended the green to the edge of the cliff.

I grew up playing one of his courses, Glen Abbey GC. He's not my favourite designer, but his courses will give you a decent test. I learned how to hit irons and with the size of the greens, I learned how to lag putt.

 

The pictured course above is gorgeous, would love to play there sometime.

I played Jack's Hammock Creek in Florida this week. It's no wonder Jack wants to roll back equipment, this course was like playing golf on a driving range.

There is one that I like to play,BSD course, the green is just atrocious with the slopes. Other than that I enjoy it.

Dove Mountain may be my favorite despite pros whining about Tucson...

Can’t be worse than Gary player designs. I swear he designs every single course to penalize a long hitter. More throw away blind tee shots and greens that slope away from all sides than you can count. Just Mickey Mouse.

There is a links gary player design course about 1/2 mile from my house in a pretty nice neighborhood. 13 years old and I think they had high hopes for it but so far it’s just fizzled out. I went out there beginning of summer to check it out. No clubhouse, practice range or putting green. In fact the “clubhouse” is an office in what looks like an auto repair shop. The only reason I knew that is because I saw a man drive up in a cart getting ready to start his round. The only one I saw on the course. I walked in that office, looked around, walked in a few other rooms with my hello’s. Nada. Couldn’t find anyone in the shop either. So I made my way to what I thought was the first tee. I never did find out for sure. Walked a few holes and yes there were a few blind shots. Greens looked half alive and bunkers were like dried mud. If I ever played that course I would have to come up with an alternative penalty because it can’t be fair having to hit out of that. Of course the sand is so hard there is a good chance my ball would bounce out. Instead of a rake they really needed a shovel, but thats hard work so a rototiller would be even better. Really I can’t blame this on GP but I would sure be interested to know why this never took off.

I love JN courses. They're tough but fair. He does seem to design courses that overall favors a fade. :D

Beautiful courses. Don’t love his design philosophy regarding 1 or 2 par 5’s that are 600+, but usually 2 are very short which is fun.
