How many are still playing Ping i15 irons?

I still play mine but being the iron ho I am not full time.

They still perform well. Similar to most ping irons in they feel solid,

fly consistent distances and are more forgiving off the toe than you would imagine.

What I like about the i15's compared to other pings is the size and shape of the head.

The amount of offset going through the set is just perfect to my eye.

I loose nothing playing these compared to more modern irons.

Just like to play other sets because otherwise they would just sit there doing nothing :)

Thanks for that info.

My S59 irons haven't been behaving well lately.

I just bought some i15s.

During winter, I need more forgiving clubs because of all the extra clothing that messes up my swing.

I still use i15 irons but just bought i20s for a really good price . I can probably sell my i15s for close to what I paid for the i20s , so switching irons will cost me very little.

IMO, there is little difference performance wise in the heads, Right now, I actually prefer the i15 (orange dot) because they have larger grips and are orange dot compared to the i20 red dot. Once set up the same, there be little diference. I slightly prefer the CFS shafts in the i20 to the i15 AWT shafts and the i20 satin finish looks slightly better.

Eventually I'll probably be reshafting the i20 with graphite shafts. I already have a set of used shafts , but the tip prep goes .25" past the top of the i15 hosels. :not_i: The i20 ferrules will cover that up. .

Bag Setup - changes too often to bother listing

I still have a set, but the shafts I played ~8 years ago are too stiff now. Not worth reshafting (unlike my Eye2s which were), but not ready to chuck them yet.

If the shafts were better suited to my current game, I think the i15s would play very similarly to the new i210s (with whatever allowances you'd need to make for the loft evolution).

How have the i15s been coming along? I am seriously looking at s55 or s56, but have read great forgiveness in the i series irons.

I'm after something with a smaller head than what I currently have, which is why I'm looking at the s series. How do i and s compare?

Been playing i15's for 7 or 8 years. Bought them used from our pro. W-3... but I now play Zing2's in the 3 and 4 slot.

10 hcp right now.

I just can't imagine anything performing better for me.

Golf is a lot easier now.

I don't have to fight or work the club.

These are real easy for me to hit.

My bad shots aren't as bad.

A good 5 iron will go 180-190. A bad one will go 170 and still be close to straight.

I just returned to playing. Using i15's with KBS tour shafts. Get loads of spin and very high ball flight with these.

If I continue playing I will consider changing for something with less offset. As a teen I played with unforgiving blades, so the offset is the only distraction. My swing is very rusty so not doing these irons justice, but they are easy to hit with plenty forgiveness and distance.

I'm still rocking the I15's since I bought them new what, 10 yrs ago? I went to the Ping factory to try out the S56's and had a so-so/decent spread... the Ping's fitter suggested trying the I15's and my dispersion tightened up by about half... been sold ever since. I was a ~12 HC back then, took 3 lessons about 5 yrs ago and dropped to a 7 HC but after a few years my distances dropped 5-10 yds as I got older. Now at 55 yrs old, I've just taken 5 more lessons and am hitting these irons higher and with more control (fade or draw) and am back to the same yardages I hit at 45 yrs old (163yd 7 iron). I'm tracking to be sub 5 HC this year so I have to ask myself why would I switch to a different set of Irons? Its definitely not the irons. Case in point, I JUST finished hitting the new 2022 Carbon faced Stealth Driver on the range with a Flight Scope pitted against my Ping G20... results were the same... 98MPH swing speed, 240yd carry, 250 yd total... Fitter told me to save my money and keep the G20. I probably just don't have the swing speed to reach the limits of these drivers to show the true difference but in the end, I play for me, not to keep up with technology that won't warrant the cost or to keep up with others who want to display what's in the bag.

I'm still gaming these in 2023 though a fairly high handicapper due to my poor short game and putting. Iron striking by far my strongest area. Played Ping Eye 2 BeCu for 12 odd years and loved them, very cool, easy to hit, but fancied a change so sold them for 4x what I paid for them and picked up some cheap i15s. Love them even more, not dissimilar at address. Slimmer top line than most modern iron equivalents, great shape. Can draw and fade them no issue. The detailed milling on face is still there which is remarkable really, highly durable metal. Downsides are plastic covers for dampening foam are coming away with age, and hard to tell where off face you've caught the club as only the most extreme hozel/toe shots will feedback through the hands. I'll probably change at some point but not until I consistently break 90, not long now I hope.

Following up on my own ~5 year old quote above.  Now 60yo, I did move on to Cally Apex DCB's to help get the ball up in my slowing swing speed, and I love them, but can't get rid of my i15's.  Not yet.

Cool to see this thread brought back to life.

Kinda cool to see this thread come up. A while back I was looking into the Maltby Playability Factor Ping data base, had seen the i115's had a fairly low CG and farther toe side than centre. From previous experience I have found that type of CG location is good for my swing. I was heading out to hit a few last evening, it's very early spring here so I'm just out testing a few things, nothing serious. I grabbed a lowly i15 7 iron out of my demo bag of irons. I had bought it 10 years earlier for $10, but maybe hit it a few times. Well I couldn't stop hitting it last evening, course was dead so I could swing away with multiple balls. I was very impressed with the ball flight, accuracy and consistency, felt alright as well. I'm in the process of snagging a whole set. Impressive that an iron set from 2009 can hold it's own against today's technology.😀

Mine are firmly in the bag, the shape from address is perfect to my eye, smaller that the newer I series irons which have got a bit GI imo, bulletproof finish and love the old school no ferrule look.

Performance is fantastic, very consistent distances, loads of forgiveness. What's not to like? Only thing I never liked was the cavity colours so I paint filled the red to black and they look so much better.

Excellent, thx for the reply. Nice to see that these are still in use, enjoy!  I'm always looking to try everything Ping. This is one of the Ping sets I've never had.  Actually went to my local used/new club store today looking for a set to no avail. Kinda disappointed, but will find a set on the bay.  I did find a set of the original Anser's, that's another set I've never had. So in the car they went.😀

Nice find! Once you get the ping iron bug there is no going back.

True enough, iv'e been bit pretty hard by the Ping bug. Couldn't afford them many years ago, I've since made up for that. I took the Anser's out this evening for a go, after a few hits I wasn't all that pleased with them. Not sure I hit a one good shot, probably the winter rust, or lack of talent creaping thru.🤔   I did bring my i210 7 iron along, i hit that very well for me.   Maybe I spoke to soon about the newer technology not helping. Last fall I ordered 210's  7-U wedge with recoil 110 S shafts, great combination.  Thinking I'm done tinkering iron wise this spring, not sure why I'm never happy with what I have. Now on to fairway woods.😀

What is the reason you haven't changed?

How do they perform for you?

I don’t play them anymore, but when I did they were one of my all time favorite sets I ever played. Loved the blended set design.

I posted this in another thread but might be of interest here. At the end of last year I was up in Scottsdale and they were holding the finals of the Champions Tour Q School at the TPC Champions course. Decided to go and follow a few groups, nothing is roped off so you can get up close with a good view. Noticed a player using an older set of Ping irons so took a closer look at his bag and they were I15's. Then walked by the cart of another player in the same group and he also had a set of I15's in his bag. Have to say it surprised the hell out of me, wouldn't have expected to see any player using them much less two in the same group.

I don’t really care for the color red, definitely like the look of these much better.
