Question about a pulled graphite shaft

I always go to a guy that works at a local pro shop to get my graphite shafts pulled.

Since I buy a lot from him, he pulls the shafts for about $8.

There was a guy in there getting one pulled and he told us about another shop pulling a shaft for him.

The guy at the other shop said "When I pulled the shaft it softened a bit. After it hardened I put the adapter on".

I always thought if the shaft softened it was ruined?????

So did this Pro that I use.

The customer said he is still using the shaft, but didn't trust that other shop, so now he is going where I go.

 

Have any of you had a shaft soften when pulled, and then work out ok?

I'm not experienced enough to know.

If it softened I'm pretty sure it can be expected to fail. I wouldn't use that shop.

The resin that holds a graphite shaft together is basically the same as the epoxy that holds the head on. When it hits a critical temp it breaks down it doesn't soften and then go back when it cools down.

 

I haven't ruined a shaft while pulling it in years but I did a pull for a guy who tried to install it himself with some crazy high temp epoxy he got from his work. The tip definitely gets to a point where it feels soft and then it just turns into a mess of fibers when it fails.

 

I would suggest not going to the shop where the guy said that it softened and then installed it anyway.

That's why he quit using that other shop.

Now he is using the same place that I am.

Lol!!! That's why shafts are hollow. So the pills can go in! Lol
