The dreaded "push fade", I'm always right of right off the tee

I can't seem to shake this, hitting it plenty far, but always start right, and fade more right.

 

I don't mind playing the fade, just need to stop pushing.

 

How to correct?

Make sure your actually aiming where you think you are. Sometimes people think they pushed a ball, but in fact they hit it dead straight, right where they were aligned.

If I make my backswing too long, I tend to get the ole dreaded push fade. I typically shorten my backswing just a bit and make sure to accelerate through the ball, and then it goes back to my old ballflight. Hopefully that will help a bit.

Sorry to be blunt, but you’ll have to identify the causative reason for the open face. Since there are many combinations that can lead to that result, I’d proceed with caution implementing advice from individuals who haven’t seen your swing or numbers. When you have the chance to post a few videos, you should also specify what shot you’d like to or normally hit when satisfied.

No, pretty much driver.

 

Same as me I tend to pull my irons a tad sometimes, draw my 3 wood and 5 wood and push fade my driver off the planet, I’m sure my problem is being steep. If I aim way left I hit it straight and great driver stays at home at the moment.

It’s the old path face argument but if one is hitting a big push fade the path in relation to the target needs attention. From experience trying to hit from the inside or getting steep then desperately shallowing can make it nearly impossible to square the face

I was doing this w driver for a significant period, and realized that bc of my action, that the way the head felt in the backswing, and where it started, needed a little more space or something for the left hand to do its thing.

You don't need to do anything but practice trying to fade or draw the ball. Start the ball either left or right, and curve it back. The way you do that is simply practice. Practice is all you can do to fix this, in fact, any shot. Slicing? Practice drawing the ball. Push fade? Either learn to draw the ball with a push, or start the ball left for a fade.

 

Practice is about making mistakes and learning shots, not repetition. Practice is about learning the skill. You don't need technique to practice right, and in fact the technique will take care of itself when you practice a shot.

 

The reason practice takes care of technique is because there's only one proper way to do anything. There's only one way to walk properly, one proper way to turn a steering wheel, one way to speak the English language (technique wise), and one way to hit a fade, draw, high, low, chip shot, putt, etc. Because there's only one way to do it, if you're doing it at all, your technique is correct.

 

All that's required is practice. Practice is trying something you can't do already, and learning it through struggle. No matter what your swing looks like at the end of it, if you're hitting your favorite fade after tons of practice, then you don't need to work on your swing.

 

Once you've learned whatever shot shape you want, it should become automatic. You shouldn't have to think about it anymore. This is when you've mastered your swing.

Above post is spot on. When I get the wipes or pushes I immediately start trying to hook it. Then when I’ve felt a few hooks I’ll setup and try straight. Works everytime. Just wish it stayed that way all the time. Lol. Left hand knuckles down will turn that into an instant hook most likely. Just have to find the compromise position.

Dunno about your swing, you would have to post it for an instructor to analyze.

 

In my case I had my right side working out in the downswing instead of the left side clearing, which made me swing to right field. Had a very weak grip on top of that, hence push fade. It took the left side of the course completely out of play, unfortunately the fairway too!

poor alignment, head moving forward in the transition and bowing of the left hand at impact are my faults that create that miss. If I focus on staying behind the ball and turning the back of my left hand down starting at the top of the backswing, it goes away. I aim down the center and usually hit a 5 degree pull or baby fade, both of which land in the fairway.

Without seeing your swing, either aiming more left (if it's manageable) or more bowing of the lead wrist so the clubface isn't pointed as far open compared to the path.
