Makes complete sense.....those same couples that are getting along on the course prob get along at home and most other activities vs the couples that aren't as happy together and now the wife is tarnishing golf too so husband has no break from a mediocre relationship.

Some of my golf buddys are dirty mouthed and takes an "open minded" girl to hang....wives would not be impressed lol

Can't figure how to like my own posts

Girl I dated played, was a good player and actually played D1 college golf. Fun on the course, and never had issues when the two of us played. It was more so we hung out with each other and hit the ball a few times in the process. Working in golf, she would come out to the club at the end of the day, and we’d putt and chip if we didn’t play that evening. Lots of upside to a gf/wife playing, but at the same time can be tough. Only downside was she didn’t have many friends herself other than teammates who would play after college, and would end up trying to play with me. Toughest part to handle

If that’s the downside, she obviously isn’t (wasn’t) the right one for you.

I totally agree with that last part.

My cousin has the best arrangement. As long as he plays a course with scenic surroundings, His wife is down to ride along in the cart and drink margaritas all day. She even has done it so much that she even tends the flag for us. sometimes she will rake a bunker. But its fun having her out

Well, let me say my current wife (second marriage) never thought about playing for 13 of our 18 years of marriage, then, she tried it ONCE, that's all it took,,,

Last year if we went longer than 2 weeks without playing, there was hell to pay,,,

While looking for golf shoes for her last year,,, I hit the new PING G-700 , she TOLD me to get them, said not, let me compare them to my G-25's,,,, week later she said we were going to check out the G-700 vs my G-25's,,, got G-700 in the bag now,,,

SHE showed me the new PING-410 driver, said it would "match" my 700's,,,, nope, my XR-16 has been too nice,,,

PGA Superstore in Palm Desert is like a candy store for both of us now,,,

So, I can say I fit the 23% group!

I don't think these results are odd at all. For the most part, the majority of men were probably golfing prior to their marriage, so having a wife that then takes up golf, or is introduced as new regular partner produces a couple possible outcomes.

1) They could get along great, has no detrimental effect on the husband's game and on goes life.

2) Where I see issues is, especially if there are still kids in the house, the wife and husband play, and then then the man wants to get in additional round or two that week with buddies, there is the inevitable conflict of either:

a) The wife is resentful because you don't want to play those rounds with her, or

b) The wife is resentful because "we already played golf this week" and views any rounds you play with her as something that should replace rounds you previously played with friends, and not be in addition.

Simple as that.

My wife works in the pro shop of the club I'm a member at.

Sharing a hooby like golf with your partner is amazing in my opinion. All our trips and vacations are planned around golf, our weekends are planned around golf and in the summer most nights we meet after work at the club, play 9 holes have a drink and then head home for dinner.

I feel for guys and girls whos partners don't play and they are either not allowed to play at times or there partners give them a hard time becasue they don't understand the time commitment golf takes.

Same here, except Wife doesn't work in the pro shop. All our trips involve golf, I bet I play 95% of my rounds, with her. She golfed before we married and got me into the game.

Same here. Also, I blame her for dragging me out when it's 40-45*F outside to play golf and I'm wondering, I can't feel my hands, what am I doing here? Last week played 9 holes with her at 38*F with 15-20mph wind....no fun, bundled up as in a straight jacket. As a matter of fact, a bunch of women at our club are crazies, going out to play in cold weather. The only downside is, she likes this local (1 hr drive) fitter, and anything you get from him is $$$$ where I'm more apt to go hunting on Ebay….last spring, got her fitted for clubs & hybrids and choked when the fitter said "that comes out to $1,600" (all standard loft/lie that I'm thinking I could get off Ebay for half) and the fitter says to me "she's worth it, isn't she?".... what are you going to say except..."you bet!". Now she wants to return for 3- & 5-wood and she's been looking at Epic Flash ($$$$), and here I am getting 3-yr old Callaway Optiforce drivers off the bay, lol. Gotta keep my woman happy.

I normally play alone or with my boys (9 & 9) or friends but a few weekends back we all ended up going to a janky little 9 hole course up the road and everyone played (7 yr old daughter drove the cart and caddied for my wife). We had a great time and my wife has been much more agreeable to joining the local club since then. As long as everyone's getting along, it's awesome. If you have a spouse that ends up getting all angry and self conscious, best to keep it separate.

Having little kids is a game killer, but as they get a little older I can see them opening it up lots of opportunities.

Mine is the other way, she likes her clubs and doesn't change them often. I tend to replace something every year, usually from Callaway Preowned.

My wife is still rocking the following:

Driver - TaylorMade R540

3W - Nike Sasquatch

5W - Original Ping G

Irons - Nike Slingshot

Wedges - CG12

Putter - Ping Karsten 2

The game my daughter loves is I have the Callaway Backyard range with the target, I get one shot and she gets 3 (she's 4 years old):

In the net is 1 point

Hit the target is 3 points

Hit the bullseye is 5 points

The game is super competitive and she usually loses or wins by 1. I also commentate the whole affair so it makes it seem like the most important competition in the world each time we play.

Driver: Titleist Tsi3 w/HZRDUS Smoke Yellow TX 6.0
3 Wood: Cobra King Speedzone/HZRDUS Smoke Yellow 70

5 Wood: Callaway Mavrik Subzero/Aldila Rogue White 70
Long Irons (4-6): Wilson D7 Forged/DG120TI
Short Irons (7-P): Wilson Staff Model Blade/DG120TI

Wedges (50/54/58): Callaway Jaws MD5 w/TI S200
Putter: Original Odyssey White Hot XG No. 7
Ball: Titleist Left Dash

My fiance still uses an old school Taylormade Burner, similar to the one Snedeker used up until recently. Everything else in her bag she updates and tinkers with. But she has been using her burner for years and is the most consistent driver for her. She is a scratch golfer so I guess it is working out just fine. She spent her whole life practicing and playing competitively, now she hates going to the range and what not. So she'll go all winter without picking up a club and first round when it is warm shoot around par. It is enraging for me, someone who practices/plays all year to lose like that lol.

My wife keeps saying she wants to it the range or go play after a long snowy winter. Me having golf on TV each week isnt helping either.

The most she has "played" is pitch and putt. We went a few times last fall to introduce her to the game and get things moving. She will definitely need lessons and we have both determined I should not be the one to give them to her! Her swing speed is slow and she still has trouble advancing the ball with most clubs over 100 yards consistently. Once that improves the next logical step I assume is an executive par 3/4 course? However, the one near us has lots of swampy area that balls are bound to be lost in with short shots.

My wife won't even let me replace her grips. And they are slick.

It kills me...

"Why do you replace yours every year?"

Got her a new set of grips, will change them soon. Got some time while the snowdrifts melt.

King Slender nailed it.

As my body deteriorates my wife has decided it will be the only thing we can do in the future. We play a lot of “hit and giggle” and I know to give no tips, and she knows if she asks, I am not being an a-hole when I ask back, “Are you sure?”

We play in a tournament every year, and it’s fun for us.

I am amazed at how many women end up in tears playing tournament golf with their husbands. It is shocking.

This sounds awesome to me. I've been considering trying to get my wife involved in golf. Shes 32, and has made comments several times over the past couple of years that she got into golf one summer in high school with some of her girlfriends and really enjoyed it. We have a 9 month old daughter now, and I think it would be great to introduce her to the game when she's old enough. Maybe getting Momma involved now would be great for the family also.

I wish my wife would play golf with me. Teied to get her into it a few years back. We were on second hole late in the day and some $&@ hole Jackwagon has to ride up and make a comment on how SLOW were were... I was letting people through at the time as to not hold anyone up. That was the end of it. Shame some Men dont want women near or on a course. I have regretted that day and the negative interaction, and that it soured her enthusiasm for possibly learning to play. She will run your butt all over a tennis court. Plan on taking the little girl out this spring late in the day to have some fin with it, even if she just plays in the bunkers and putts and helps daddy “ drive the cart”. Yes my Sat morning games are fun and competitive and relaxing. But I do wish she would give it another go. Actually has a pretty swing and a natural baby draw.
