Callaway Driver Adapter fade settings?

MG 1977

I've done a quick search but couldn't find any info. Can a Callaway adapter be set up to promote a fade? I know it isn't a standard option only Draw or Neutral with 4 lofts... but can the cogs be removed and put back on upside down or a left hand adapter be used in a right handed head? any input or links to a topic that covers this already would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Loft settings is actually face angle, and since a fade is made by Face to Path, or the relationship between club path and face angle, and more open face angle "promotes" a fade, so thats lower loft if thats what the hosel say. Go lower on loft and as flat as possible on lie (neutral is flat, draw is upright), and ground the club. Now face angle should be more open at address.

If lie angle is 60*, the setting for Loft at -1* would open the face angle by 1.5*

Left or right handed cog doesn't matter for lie angle settings. Upright is going to be upright for both left and right handed adapters, it doesn't switch like loft does when you change handedness. Think of it this way, in a setup position - for lie angle adjustment it doesn't matter which direction the face is pointing (target to the left or right). That's true for any OEM's adjustment mechansism.

I can't see how flipping a cog upside down would accomplish anything either. One position gives the most upright setting and the opposite will give the flattest setting and those two will always be the upright setting and the neutral setting. Flipping it over wont change the range of adjustments - it will only change which orientations can be used and confuse what is actually being adjusted (loft vs lie).

The only way to get a flatter effective lie angle is to go shorter with the playing length. But lie angle isn't really the most effective means to control the head bias. 1* change in lie angle gives only about a 3 yard difference in how much off-line the shot will be (for someone who hits the driver ~250 yards). You're better off trying the open face angle with the -1 loft setting.

Thanks for that... I would like to try -2 degrees of loft and flatter as i tend to over draw all Callaway drivers with the adjustable hosel... I often take out my Cobra f8+ and M1 and hit them side by side & I'll get straight to fade with f8 / m1 and draw to hook with Cally.

I'll try it at -1 with a 44.5 inch shaft?

I suspect the issue is more with the face angle than the lie - but that's only a guess.

I haven't measured them to verify but I've noticed that in the few Callaway heads I've tried, the 'neutral' face angle seems to be more closed (or really less open) than on the TM heads in their 'neutral' settings.

Cobra is different in that they only really produce a single loft and use the hosel adjustment for different loft settings. So what you get for a face angle with them is going to depend a lot on what loft settings you use. If you're using the lower loft settings then that also likely means a more open face angle. They say the smart pad helps mitigate the face angle changes - but it never worked that way for me.

However, shaft differences (both shaft weight and flex/stiffness), swing weight differences, and playing length, could also potentially contribute to those kinds of results. If you really want to pin down the issue to the head (and therefore lie and face angle), everything else must be the same when you compare.

The Callaway drivers do look closed to my eye... I play the f8 at 10.5 so not really a lower loft and have a hzrdus black 6.0 in them all. I just want the Callaway to work as the ball speed I get from it is higher than everything else. When it's on its untouchable but the bad shot is destructive which is why i was hoping for a way to promote a fade bias.

Agree with this. My M3 in the “higher” position looks to my eye more open than my Epic I had set to -1/N.

One of the reasons I switched as I need more loft but don’t need a closed face.

I might buy an aftermarket adapter and try to manipulate it so that the head sits more open at address. I really like the Rogue but the left miss isn't for me.

Two things I will try:-

1). heat and manipulation

2). bore the adapter and set the shaft in at an angle using glass beads in the epoxy to add stability?

Could try one of the "green dot" adapters that offer -2* adjustment. They can be easily had for around $50 now. There's a seller on ebay that has plenty for sale right now. I tried one a few months back with my Epic but it still didn't sit open enough for my eye. Then again, I'm on the extreme side of things of what appears to sit open. It's very subjective. Adapter linked below.

I knew I was not crazy with some of them looking more closed on neutral settings.
