I've read most of Hogans' stuff and have come to the conclusion that some of the stuff he thought he did he actually didn't. For example, I expect Hogan's swing speed after his accident was probably at 115 or so when he needed distance with the driver. At that swing speed there is very little one can do to manipulate the hands once the downswing has started, there is not enough time for one and the force of the club extending means the hands and arms are mostly resting the club flying out of the hands. Holding off rotation or adding rotation may be the only real exceptions.

Funny.  I was thinking the same exact thing.

Your dealing with the fact that as fast as nerve impulses travel in the body, it still takes time to assimilate.  For example, when a pitcher throws a pitch, the batter has to decide within 2 to 3 feet of the ball leaving the pitcher's hand whether to swing or not.  Fortunately in golf we get more time.

Also factor in the fact that in sports, "tournament golf" is the hardest most demanding thing on the planet. How did Hogan kept his consistency day in day out if he had to "think" about his mechanics. Cause he didn't folks! To him the swing was over from the minute he stop moving his feet around in his set-up.

Which got me thinking about another approach to the golf swing.  Quantum entanglement, which the most basic thing I can think to describe it is that "everything is connected to everything."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_entanglement   Just add the words "...spin on a golf ball after the word spin used in the article.

Imagine hitting a golf ball at Pebble Beach and it lands on a green 45 million light years from earth.

Any theoretical physicists on Golf Wrks forum?  The earth spins, we spin in a golf swing, the ball spins after being hit.  Just seems like there is a possibility of adding what Einstein called "Spooky Science", science none the less to the discussion.

Most of us draw a blank with Quantum Physics.  I have been able to intensify the torus field of the golf swing.  Just like Hogan described in Five Lessons.

Funny how all new ideas of value, all go through the same stages.

1.  First the idea is summarily dismissed

2.  Then there is violent opposition to the new idea

3.  Then it eventually becomes the norm

Think about the world is flat folks.

I have two volunteers to work with.  I'll show before and after swings.

I disagree. I swing in the 130s and can easily change the shape of my drives based on when and where I release my hands. Moehogan's advice regarding the consequences of intentional pressure in the middle and ring fingers is spot on.

The left wrist cup will  disappear and then will flatten or bow if one turns the left hand counterclockwise using the last three fingers AGAINST a right hand that is maintaining it’s clockwise winding using the two right hand middle fingers. Just make sure it’s done by P6.

The result is an extremely stable clubface. With a little experimentation, a better golfer can dial in neutral during one range session. Need to open the face a little? Increase the grip pressure in the right RING finger. Need to close the face a little? Increase the grip pressure in the right MIDDLE finger.

Great insight here! I wish I'd learned these concepts when I'd first taken up golf.

If the handicap is correct it may be in the 130’s but with little concept of where the ball is headed.

In response to Shilgy, it is more fair to say that I can hook or slice on command. (This is as opposed to drawing and fading on command.) With the right release thought, I'm sure that you can do the same. While I'm not a low handicap  golfer, at least I'm on an upward trajectory versus last year.

To TThomas, here is a nice baby draw just shy of 370. I need to stop and take a photo the next time I break 390.

According to TheGrint it's up to 17 right now. 😞 I've started lessons this winter that I believe are going well, so I'm hopeful to shave some shots this year.

130+ and regular flex? Lol.

But sure….if you’re hitting it 370 you don’t need irons so your bag makes sense.😂

I absolutely need a new shaft for my 3W! Good catch. My driver is XS however.

The 225 irons are allegedly shipping tomorrow - Super excited!

Guys, there is a reason he advocated supination in his 5 Lessons book combined with his weak grip. He was the same height as Trevino or just an inch taller and he was known for being a long hitter whereas Trevino was just average.

Hogan released and turned his right hand over his left in the follow through and Trevino did it less, hence the difference in power. It is completely impossible to “hold on” and not release the right hand over the left in the follow-through, the force with a full speed driver is over 1000 pounds and the world’s strongest man can barely deadlift that at almost 7 feet tall and over 300 pounds, no way a 5’7-5’8 <150 pound guy is going to resist that much force.

I will say this though, Hogan maintained an obtuse angle between his left arm and clubshaft in the follow through, my guess is from playing for so long in the Texas winds to flight it low that it was just ingrained in his swing.

But he still turned over his right hand and did it with both a weak grip and also completely dead flat even club lie angle at address, not impact. He advocated a flat lie angle at address in his Power Golf book but never mentioned it in his 5 Lessons book, interestingly enough. If the club is too upright at address, that ball is going left no matter what. So he had a flat club at address with a weak grip so he could release after impact and not worry about it going left on him and also be able to hit a power fade.
