Mount Rushmore of Golf

Golf Digest is posting something about who would be on your Mount Rushmore in Golf? Tiger Woods answered Sam Snead, Bobby Jones, Jack Nicklaus and Me.

 

I thought I would throw this out to WRXers. That list sounds good and who am I to argue but - if I take out JonesScott - I would probably go Tiger, Jack, Hogan and Snead.

 

What say you?

Assuming US only, it would have to be (and I'm a Hogan fan!):

Ouimet, Jones, Nicklaus, Woods.

 

Why?

 

Ouimet: kickstarted the popularity in golf generally with his 1913 US Open win, and generally regarded as the "Grandfather" of American Golf. Also, first non-British Captain of the R & A.

 

Jones: Sinply the best player of his generation, and an Amateur. The whole country would virtually grind to a halt when Jones was heading for another championship win.

 

Nicklaus: Best player of his generation, most majors.

 

Woods: Best player of his generation, popularised the game more than anyone since Ouimet.

 

If the criteria was the whole world, there would be an argument for Vardon to replace Ouimet.

Mt Rushmore isnt about who is the greatest, its about who had the biggest impact on the birth of the country at the time it was done

 

IMO it would be done pre TW....if you wanted to do it from here on out it would be Jack, Arnie, TW, and Jones

IMO it would be done pre TW....if you wanted to do it from here on out it would be Jack, Arnie, TW, and Jones

Mt. Rushmore was actually all about some crazy entrepreneur that had an idea to make a bunch of money and squandered tax payer money. At least that's the story according to a documentary on Discovery Channel.

I don’t think it’s arrogant at all. It’s just being honest. If he doesn’t lit himself then it’s false modesty.
