Driver vs Driver 2

The dialshot getting axed in the last episode was an easy one for them. I’m actually interested in a few of the remaining heads.

What I’m wondering though from watching these last few testing episodes is the faces of the drivers. Does anyone know what kind of tech is being implemented with the faces of these drivers? It seems difficult for these guys to differentiate themselves if it’s all the same Wilson driver face with different bodies

If they spent time getting into this it the tweaks/design stuff going on I would be more interested in the show

That stuff is a trade secret. Can’t reveal everything.

They changed the Cortex already. No longer looks so much like an Epic.

I know and it’s why I don’t watch the show.

If they gave away trade secrets, you'd watch? That's asking a little much.

The Magnus brings the best numbers, but no one likes it. That's what over-the-top cockiness as a designer does for you.

This is the first episode I've watched so I haven't gone sour on him.

It's reality tv and heavily edited (as you know). Personally, I want best numbers. I kinda enjoyed what he said about it being a design contest, and if you wanted a typical driver, there are plenty of those.

Jimmy was on the show last time as part of a team and equally annoying. I'm with him that this is a design contest and there is nothing wrong with being different as long as the performance is there. But Tim Clark and the other testers don't want too many distractions on the crown. They like some aspects of the driver to be just like the other top drivers on the market and other aspects to be different.

No surprise who went. You can’t have a driver that so many people take issue with the weird sound regardless or good results. That being said, I can’t think it’s that hard to make some changes to fix that without affecting performance.

I liked that dude. The sound I would think can be fixed. Personally, I like a muted driver. The "Launchpad" is the best name of the bunch too.

I'm one of the only posters that has liked the show. The testers they are using are much more knowledgeable. Wilson got some brand names.

The question is will Wilson test the top 3 against the Rogue, G400, M3/4 and TS2/3? If you want to make a bigger dent in the market, trust your club against the competition.

Catching up on this show right now. Everyone loves the Cortex, but it looks too much like the Epic/Rogue. Gotta differentiate yourself a little more. Shiels only hit it 270 yards and he's at least 300 on youtube with other drivers.

When they are at the PGA show, the tracer has the balls going straight up in the air. Why? It makes it look like the ball isn't going anywhere.

First prototype, not his shaft. I don't think juging Rick's drive a good comparison considering a college kid hit it over 310 yards. Both of them were not fitted for it.

The camera angles for the range session were a little weird. Maybe it's best not to put them right behind the golfers, but they were way to the left so a straight ball looks like a dead pull.

An hour of golf media stars hitting balls was not as boring as I thought it would be. Far more interesting than the reality show the Golf Channel tried with Top Golf.

I'm just saying we can't judge a driver from one shot, when the driver has been receiving great reviews from every single testers so far.

Trying to remember the numbers exactly, but I thought its smash factor was pretty low across the board

I like Cortex. Like Kyle Maze (Cart Barn Guys) said, the adjustability is simple to understand, and I like that. Plus the sound was amazing and all the testers got good carry and total distances. His performance has been great in the last 3 episodes.

I'm rooting for the Rozwell to be in the Finale. I gotta admit that driver as something to it we haven't seen before, and if Evan doesn't win, I'm hoping for Tim to.

I used to root for Magnus 2.0, but right now Jimmy is just... arrogant. We get it, it's an innovation contest. But if your innovation keeps being disliked from a cosmetic standpoint, why do keep pushing for it? Would it actually destroy your whole concept to make it a little more round in the back?

I wonder if Wilson is concerned that Jimmy is unlikable that that could hurt their sales? Maybe 99% of buyers won't know who Jimmy is, but being a turd can't help him win this contest. Adam Beach could have fried him on the show if he wanted to.

Since the winning driver is already decided and just waiting to be launched, I'm guessing we'll find out in two weeks.

There's a difference between confidence and arrogance, and right now, Jimmy is filled with arrogance. He thinks nothing can beat his driver, that his shape design is almost the re-invention of the driver head. He was the only guy who said "I don't need help" to the Wilson engineers, guys who spend their lives working on designing clubs.

Personally, I wouldn't associate with him. But I'm not the CEO of a golf company, so what do I know.

The biggest factor for me, it's the head shape. Time and time again, people trying his driver have said the head shape was distracting, but he doesn't budge. We got our first crack in his armor tonight with the crown color, going from shiny black to matte black, and I think that's the only change we'll see from him.

That "college kid" was actually a college golfer, carries a +1 handicap and hits his personal driver in the 320 plus range. But i know thats half rhe WRX membership as well

I know he was, I wasn't trying to diminish him at all. Still, he's a college kid, he was the youngest tester. His numbers were amazing, and that testing probably helped the Cortex a lot.

Interesting that the only driver that the Wilson engineers haven’t touched is the one that is outperforming the ones Wilson has had their hands on. Ouch!

The Corex was the longest driver of them all even with the lower smash factor it was a clear distance winner.

I think that's what amazed me the most. He finished 2th for the Smash Factor Test, but all 4 testers got amazing numbers of the driver. I"m wondering what he would need to tweak in other to optimize his smash factor.

When the president of Wilson asked him if he was willing to budge on the head shape and he gave an unwavering “No”, I felt it was like asking individuals to form teams early on. It wasn’t a “will you”, as much as a “do it or you’re gone” type of statement. Jimmy is finishing 3rd.

RoZwell has gotten to odd and busy looking. Performance was very Ho-hum.

Anybody notice the spin numbers coming off of the Cortex seemed almost artificially low at times? Sam Robinson hit one and the reported spin rate was 1011?! But still something like 264 carry and 300+ total. Cortex was the only one I saw that was delivering sub-2000 spin numbers. Robinson had another that I think was around 1750. 1011 is in wounded duck territory and for that reason I was questioning some of the numbers coming off of that thing. But agree it looked the best.

I bet the cortex sole will be redesigned again.

It’s really the only one that would fit into today’s market. Multi material design, sliding weight, etc. it needs to be renamed though. Cortex is an awful name for a driver imo.

I figured the Launch Pad was in trouble when it didn't out-perform everybody and the sound wasn't there. I have a lot of respect for Chell taking the bigger risk and hopefully the design will continue to be worked upon to get the driver that they want.

But, I think the Rozwell faces the same issues....too much needs to be done before the finale.

That brings it to the Magnus and the Cortex. I thought the Magnus clearly outperformed the Cortex. Higher smash factors and remember, it tested the best out of any driver on the Iron Byron testing in terms of accuracy, particularly off the toe and the heel. Hard to beat a driver that has the best smash factor, doesn't spin like crazy and is the most forgiving and accurate.

I noticed that as well. Shiels supposedly hits some fairway woods up around 300 yards on his own juiced monitor. This launch monitor was still juiced to impress the viewers, but seemed a bit closer to reality. Unfortunately for Shiels, everyone now knows his actual numbers are no where near what his home monitor spits out.

I watched this last episode to see the MGS guys and also the owner, Nick, of CC. Wilson Staff will have very little success with these and they really need to get away from Black and red. We get it, red and black is WS staff but enough already.
