Does anyone know how far he’s hitting it? I assume he’s toned it down substantially, but I wonder if he cuts it loose every now and again.

 

He definitely pulls back on driver to avoid trouble, ala Finau and Woodland. Everyone jokes about the long drive guys not hitting a grid and I’m sure he understands that that is a reality in PGA-level golf (big misses suck). However (unless that’s changed) he lets loose with short clubs: I distinctly remember him on the back of a bunker at the Colonial hitting LOB WEDGE from 145ish, over the bunker and water, and getting within 25 feet. If he wants to turn up the wick he certainly can. Which is always fun.

Both him and Xiong blistered the course during their first stage of Q school.

Just once in my life I want to swing it as fast as Jamie with perfect middle contact. I think I might actually be so happy I might die right there on the spot. Of course the death could also be caused by the shock of the incredibly loud noise of my PING driver hitting a ball at 150 mph.

 

I hope he keeps at it. This guy is incredibly new to tournament golf and is finally starting to get it I think.

This is evidence to me how different tournament golf is - on every level. It’s hard to win when you’re out of your comfort zone whether it’s a club championship or a PGA major or anything in between. The only way to improve is to keep putting yourself in the grinder and even then it may never happen. Pressure does weird things to every golfers game.

Definitely got game, the shots, but course management would be an asset for him. Decisions, wrong ones, then the pressure, it all mounts up.
