Just got two sets of irons back from chrome stripping and am going to get them rebuilt with shafts and new ferrules. Look awesome so far.

Not that I know of. Just stripped of the chrome and nickel layers.

Looking for either some DIY or design inspiration from the users in this thread

 

I had chrome removed from a set of 714mb irons, but i couldnt get the badges out before they were sent and as a result i'm left with a little square of chrome, and a strip on some irons long the length of the head. Pic below for reference. not hugely noticeable but its not the same on each club and it is doing my ocd head in a bit

 

Im considering two options - would a rotary tool and an abrasive be able to strip the remaining chrome easily or will it require too heavy duty an abrasive to avoid damaging the club

 

Second option is to paintfill the area where the badge was - I tried a solid black and a solid white, but in both cases it didnt look great as it was so bold compared to the surrounding areas - Im considering a dark copper colour to maybe blend in a bit with the rest of the heads? 

 

Any suggestions?

I’d dull it with a green scotch brite pad and let it go……

I actually think it looks cool as it is. And it goes really well with the SM8 and 9 wedges. The raw versions of both of those have little polished areas that stay kinda shiny as they patina.

Ben Hogan Icon 4-PW & Equalizer II 50/54 (both originally DBM finish), BB&F "Johnny Ringo" ferrules.

 

Soaked in white vinegar for about 48 hours total. It took plenty of work with steel wool to get the DBM finish off and little acetone to remove the most stubborn paintfill. Left them "fresh" for about 5 rounds then hit them with the "juice" (hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, salt) to achieve the rusty/gold-ish patina.

I have a set of MX25 irons I want to strip raw. I looked at Oughtons site, but didn’t see an option for face/groove sandblasting. Is this something they do?

Well they sandblast the face when they rechrome. I would assume they would sandblast after stripping if you instruct them to. You can always email. Doug is good at getting back to you.

These were stripped by Oughton's with no other instructions. Face is blasted, the rest is a scotch-brite type finish.   I could not have been more satisfied with the work that they did, especially given the condition of the irons when I sent them in.

Wow, is it really as easy as soaking in vinegar for a couple days? Might go drown some DCI Tour Blades...

Anyone got a patina juice recipe for a nice even brown?

Sorry I don’t know why it wouldn’t let me type for above pics. I used birch wood plum brown on these and I found it simple to use. Heat with torch for about 60 seconds. Apply all over. Rinse off excess rust and reapply as many times to get the result you want. These were 3 coats

Here's my ZX7 9 iron.  Sent them away to Oughton's to get stripped.  His work is top notch and at a reasonable price.  I used a mixture of water, table salt, and hydrogen peroxide to start the rust process. Oh, and I paired them with a sweet set of BB&F ferrules.  At the moment, I don't plan to do any paint fill.

Finally picked up a set of Miura MC 501 in raw…supposedly one of the factory raw sets vs someone stripping them.  Just waiting on the final piece from bb&f at this point…gamed a set of standard 501s last year, so excited to get the patina going on these!

I think some of you guys must be drinking the patina juice, to take a perfectly good club and intentionally rust it up and think that it looks good.
