Greg Norman's comments today about Sean O'Hair's swing

On the team golf telecast today, Greg Norman said that he spent some time with Sean O'Hair on Saturday morning after seeing what he described as "a little quirky move"...."so fundamentally wrong" in O'Hair's backswing the day before. Did anyone see anything strange with O'Hair's swing in the first round? I didn't DVR it.

Agree about the coverage. I can hardly watch the US Coverage any more. As an Aussie, our guys are no better I hasten to add. Why can’t they learn from the Europeans - the value of a little silence for a start. They cover 3 leading groups, have older commentators that actually make sense and have the odd interesting and funny anecdote.

 

I tried to watch the US Tour live again the other week and at one stage, I think the average was about 3 actual shots from the leaders shown in between slabs of ‘generic dumb fact presented by who cares’, accompanied by loud and inappropriate music. Don’t watch the European Tour; you can’t go back.

This is a silly season event...a few minutes hearing something like this (frank commentary about a tour player) isn't awful. The South African Open telecast featured lots of chatter about a cricket player's golf game...I didn't mind that either.

 

Hopefully someone will chime in with comments about O'Hair's swing.

On ET broadcast you very rarely see any talking heads unless interviewing players after rounds. All chitchat does not interrupt the action.

I think given he talks about being deep as possible (I think he meant width from the way he motioned with his arms when describing it actually) but golf being about rotation, he is talking about the way he laterally loads and then lifts the arms in the backswing as opposed to having maximum width without swaying off it.

 

I’d take any advice off the shark, especially about driving the ball, just don’t introduce him to your girlfriend.

I complained about this in the tournament thread. I believe this conversation with Norman came right after NBC did a "sports update" with a bunch of college basketball highlights. It felt like an eternity before they got back to showing golf. They first spent some time talking about Norman's taste in music. Good god...

That seemed pretty harmless. Everyone in here gets swing advice from 20 handicappers, sometimes without any video and all of a sudden Norman can’t give out a little advice to another pro who would appear to value his incite? Sheez it’s a tough crowd.
