Anyone have pictures of how Miura Raw Black finish wears?

I will tell you the same thing Epon told me on wear of their ion played black face irons. Look at used sets of Miura raw blacks on eBay. That will give you a pretty good idea.

With the $75 off I was on the fence. Then I realized I had $850 in my Paypal account from selling a bunch of stuff recently and that sealed it.

 

I REALLY don't need another set of irons, but have been curious about the 1008s recently.

I literally checked eBay before posting this and didn't see anything, google image search, post searches... Cobra's black looks great after a lot of play but then some other brands don't hold up.

If you’re talking about the same black finish they use for the MC-501 black forged irons, they wear off pretty quickly. I have distinct bright zones on my strike areas on my 7, 8, 9 and PW. I’m not too fussed, seeing they are in the correct spots so they make me look like a better golfer than I am!

Perfect response. I just bought a set of black Epons and could care less if the face of the club looks a little scratched (just got them so as of now just looks like some ball marks that can easily be removed). If it started to wear elsewhere, would not make me happy but that’s not going to happen.

Indeed - there's always a trade off - the softer black finish on the MC-501 keeps the face feeling soft. Going with a tougher material will (according to other threads I've read in GWRX) result in a firmer, clickier feel, which defeats the point of that much for irons made out of the softest carbon steel practical.

 

That said, part of me, having seen the Callaway Apex forged MBs in raw finish makes me wish I got the raw finish version of the MC-501 instead :)

I have the black and the wear spots make me look like a.m better player than I am. I wasn’t a huge fan of the satin after seeing the black, but if I have a chance to get these in a raw finish, I’d be all over them!

Can anyone confirm if they have several different black finishes? I feel like I’ve seen Black Boron, PVD, “Raw Black”, and then just black.

I don't know all the details but they definitely have multiple black finishes. At least three. None of them seem to wear well. To be fair I haven't seen any black finish wear well other than DBM.

I'd agree - but figure I'll take a chance. I actually have a 15 - 20 year old Mizuno Raw Black Ox wedge that I feel has held up really nicely (though I use it as a 'rock club' now)

I will say I like whatever finish they have on the black series wedge. More matte than glossy. It wears relatively quickly like most black finishes but the raw finish under rusts a bit. Looks pretty cool to me on a wedge. Not something I would actively pursue for irons but I'd take a chance on that finish if something I wanted came along.

the club head does rust, with or without the finish. I've spotted rust blooms growing on the back of the club head, but less so on the face. But since I'm in the mood for some raw-like patina on my clubs, I'm trying to see this as a positive development :)

Got my heads yesterday and wow - just purrty. Definitely look like they’ll wear pretty quickly as they’re matte and kinda sticky (like primer).

 

Didn’t expect them to come this quickly. Now I’m fighting the urge to shaft them up with some old pulls while waiting for my Obans.

That's why I tape mine everywhere except the center so eventually, I can remove it and it'll look like a perfect wear spot! lol

In general, I completely agree. Proclubs has 99.8% positive feedback over 168048 transactions and some good reviews on Deal or No Deal - so I figured for 850 I'd roll the dice. :D
