Iron Factory long term review

Anyone have any long term reviews of their work. I have read everything I could find but not much talk of how satisfied people are with how the new finish has held up. im especially interested in how they feel and if anyone has tried adjusting the loft/lie after the refinishing and if it affected the new chrome plating in any way....cracks,peeling,etc. any pics would be great as well.

As a rule, adjust the loft/lie BEFORE shipping off the Iron Factory. It will keep from marking the club after they polish them. They are also better than most because they use a copper underlayer instead of nickel.

Afterwards, they can be easily adjusted 2° without issues. But anytime you bend, you can crack the chrome plating.

Yeah cracking the new chrome plating would be a real bummer. So as far as feel goes the copper layer helps? Is there a copper layer under the chrome of most irons?

The copper is mainly there to add weight back from grinding/polishing. But the "feel guys" swear that it makes the feel better.

Most shops that use a heavy nickel underlayer tend to have more cracking problems. Nickel is much more brittle.

To answer your original question, I have two sets that have been through Iron Factory. One set is on the wall, the other sees limited but harsh use. No issues that you wouldn't expect from any other chrome finish. Typical bag chatter and marks from use. I have not had to bend them more than 0.5° at any point when checking lofts and lies. Definitely recommend bending first, just in case.

So feel wise the irons felt the same before and after?

I had some Mizuno TN-87’s done by them and they did a fantastic job. These were in pretty rough shape when they got them and they looked like brand new.

The main issue is the head weight lost in the process. The worse the condition of the club, the more weight that gets lost. I think I had most clubs lose about 1-3 grams of head weight, the worst clubs were at about 6 grams lost headweight.

However, I installed tip weights and could not notice a difference. But if you lose the weight and don’t find a way to replace the weight that is lost, you will notice a difference in feel.

So I definitely understand the weight loss situation. These clubs however don’t have anything other than a little chatter to remove so not too concerned about that. I’m worried that the “new chrome” finish will feel different. I had a set of refinished black chrome 690.mb’s from TigerNick and although they looked amazing they felt awful compared to a set of original 690.mb’s.

Looking to get my 3 SM6 wedges redone and was hoping someone can comment on the spin rates of redone wedges. It’s pretty pricey if it’s just cosmetic rather than performance.

To each their own but why would you do that ?  SM9 Wedges are on close out so you can grab new wedges pretty inexpensive and call it a day.

Like most high-end wedges these days, the SM6's have special face texture, so as to increase the face roughness, which increases spin.  Grooves don't affect spin, unless there is grass between the ball and the face, it's the roughness that really increases spin.  And refinishing will remove most all of this roughness, thus the spin will be slightly lower.

I agree with the suggestion to simply buy new wedges.
