Really Titleist?? Need Advice

TS3 on its way. I may be out of hte loop on Titleist as I switched over to Callaway drivers the last three years...but I ordered the TS3 with a no upcharge shaft since it was no more cost, why not have a decent back up shaft. I told the fitter I never plan to use the shaft I order up front unless my current shaft I love does not work well in the TS3 head.

I use a Tour AD DI which they list as "exotic" and up charge pricing. It gave me great numbers just like I expected so went ahead ordered.

The fitter was going to send the AD DI to Titleist to have the adapter put on.

Titleist emailed me today. We will not provide that service. You have to buy the shaft from them....period. Not sure when this changed as they did for me on my 915 and 917 tesiting. Still have the 915 as my "Just In case" driver =_)

The email is very clear you have to order the shaft when you order the club! OKAY I am not sure how many people want to spend $500 on a dirver PLUS and then another $360 up charge for the shaft...plus tax. Especially when you ALREADY own the shaft...!

*I did check pricing, $360.00 is what they want beyond the $500 current street price..!! 9 Bills because all because of the adapter... Really Titleist..

So looking for advice. Should I use a local club builder I know to pull the one off my 915 for the AD DI? I have the one coming in the driver I could use as a back up shaft. Do I buy the ones you see on Ebay. Big concern are those really OEM ??? If so I will just get one off Ebay.

*Disapointed inTitleist honestly. All the other top companies are providing better customer service for sure...You would think they would care about the people dropping decent money on thier product.

Pretty crazy considering Cobra only upcharges $240, Callaway $250 and TM $250.

Just buy the shaft right from the OEM or certified distributor and then build it yourself or have a shop do it. Keep the stock no upcharge as back up or sell it on BST/eBay or offset cost.

I'm not a Titleist guy so I'm not sure if I'm missing something here or what.

Find a reputable repair tech in your area and have him swap tips. Thats your quickest and least expensive route.

There isn't a company on this planet that will pull/install an adapter from a competitor's shaft. Titleist has no idea the quality control, tipping, etc of the other shaft you want to modify and if they were to complete the work order that you requested then the liability would then be on them. Titleist indeed did swap tips on shafts that came on Titleist clubs, ie. 910 fairway tip swap to the 913 tip.

I'm confused - does the TS3 tip not fit the 915 head?

All Titleist driver tips work on all the models and are interchangable through the TS. The Titleist fairway wood tip was redesigned with the 913 and works up through the TS. I'm using the shafts from my 915's in my TS woods.

Z1ggy16 I already have the shaft.

Best part on this, the shaft is FROM Titleist ....=_)

I bought it with my 915, tried it in a 917 but did not like that driver. So went Cally. Cally did install the adapter for me for the record on the Tour Ad DI with no questions asked...

I will just use the adapter from the shaft of the 915. I have a great local club builder here that can do it for me.

Edit: Just a note It was Titleist sponsored head pro who was sending the shaft in for me and who I bought the 915 through. He confirmed it with them today that shaft came from them and Titliest said who cares.

I know I was shocked on the price. I went over to discuss it this afternoon and they pulled up the screen and it was shown at $360.00...!!! It was the only price that came up when we scrolled through the list when doing a custom order. I already own the shaft anyway so will pull the adapter off my 915 I guess.

OHHH ok I am on the same page now.

Yeah no brainer, get the adapter changed by a club builder. Even if the AD DI came from them originally, they'll never "help" you out like that... at least I never heard of it.

No prob. Pretty sad when Mizzy, Cally, TM are all offering great customer service/product and Titleist still thinks they are "Elite" in this market.

Their product, their rules. Authorized accounts can get adapters if I am not mistaken, but the general public can't. I don't like it, but it is what it is.

FWIW, the Chinese copies have all rattled or had a buzz sound if you gently tap the club grip down on the floor, while OEM adapters don't.

The legal department is probably behind that decision and the decision not to accept a shaft from the consumer to be used in a club coming from the factory.

It's all about avoiding that liability in today's world.

I'm also confused. The whole adding an adapter to a shaft is so easy. It slike $20 and takes 10 minutes. Buying from titleist with the upcharge pricing is crazy considering you can buy on on the BST for $150.

So not sure of the confusion. I noted I already own a TOUR AD DI.... which I bought from Titleist. Honestly a mute point too.....

As some of you note its TItleist policy now but that has not always been 100% true as they have done it for me twice prior. One a Rogue BLACK and a Dia Ltd shaft a couple of years ago. So yes something must of changed and I am sure the counterfeit market has a lot to do with that.

As High Plains noted they will do it for thier rep's normally, which who was doing it for me, but they will not do that now either turns out through Rep's *Club pros or even fitting centers ** Bear Creek golf club is a premier fitter where I purchased the shaft from.

As I stated I have extra shafts from Titleist and will pull an adapter from those plus I found one of the CMX adapters I forgot I had.

I 110% agree why Titleist does not want to take liabilty of the shaft if I they have no record of it. My point was they confirmed from the serial number on the shaft it is the one they sold me and would not work with it. That I have never seen from them prior so was surprised.

Edit: Added the premier fitter as they are a great group of pros and were surprised too.

Not that it's a huge difference but it's $240 upcharge for the AD DI shaft

I agree with the OP. I get why Titleist wouldn't want to work on a shaft that's not theirs, but in this case, it's their shaft. The OP ordered it from them directly. If they won't work on their own shaft, then the policy should be clear that once a tip is on, even if they put it on, they won't remove it, period, no exceptions.

They aren’t a repair shop so once it’s out the door unless it breaks they aren’t going to perform re-tipping. Plenty of places to get that done st.

Ok, fair point. But I guess I was under the impression that they would perform this service in certain situations.

E-man I get it and honestly they did provide the service prior. I am sure its a numbers game (cost) and not worth the time to them. I do like the TS3 though, finally something on par with the others.

Funny thing, this weekend with a group of 8 I realized I was the only one that had a Titleist clubs in my bag. I play Titleist woods/wedges and Apex Pro irons.

I asked everyone why no Titleist love (?) and all stated "Over rated" or "Over priced". The overpriced I don't agree with as all top brands seem to cost about the same. IMHO I think they are loosing to much in the market personally. They are the only OEM that will not sell the adapter over the counter. They don't have to do the work, just sell that damn thing is all LOL

Titleist did offer the option to swap tips, I remember having a member have his 910F shafts sent to titleist and they swapped the tips to 913F tips.

OP; would you have had to mail your AD-DI to them for the adapter switch? Who pays for the shipping?

it's quicker and easier to just have someone local do it. No way would I bother mailing a shaft in to an OEM to have that kind of work done. As said above, it's about $20 worth of labor to have it done locally without the worry of time and mail.

Yea, would have to mail it to them. I play with a few local pro's now and then who are sponsored by Titleist. One of them was already sending in his gear for some changes so we were tossing in my shaft to swap the adapter. I was paying for part the shipping (helps both of us). *Edit: Before anyone comments, as noted we have done this like 4 or 5 times prior and Titleist was aware and was fine since I bought all the items from them.

Its all taken care of now of course. Just never ran into that prior from Titleist

I couldn't get Ping to install a new, unused SuperStroke skull grip on a putter they were refinishing for me. Kind of surprised me, but seems to be the way the OEMs work.

How many companies would allow you to send in parts (your shaft) and have them modify their product using your parts? Imagine the warranty horror show if the shaft got damaged at a later time.

Where I them, I would do the same thing.

Most companies have as disclaimer that comes with your bill that states the liability... I my company we have 14 pages of terms/conditions/liabilty. Callaway did do it for me before but as noted they had a clear liability statement for exactly what you note though.

Really a mute point now that I have the extra adapter. Plus played today and the TS3 is SNEAKY long.... like sneaky sneaky long.... =_)
