Any Rifle experts around?

I have asked before but our Resident expert Howard hasn't chimed in

 

 

I have Rifle 44 inch blanks which turned out to be 242 cpms (7.0 ) flex, with tipping instructions all the way back down to 4.5

 

I bought them at good price from a relaible US Seller and have tried a couple and they seem fine,if a bit high launch for me,stronger players may have different thoughts

 

The seller claims that the tipping works for 38 and 39 inch 5 irons,no mention of what swing weight was used,this was after 3 messages to them.They also said that the shafts were pre TT. ie old school,so proper tipping would be 1/2 less or so than the tipping instructions claim

 

My question is really,can these really be under tipped to get 4.5 and still have any semblance of normal flight?

 

Are they not in reality super spinner type shafts at lower frequencies?

 

any help appreciated.

 

Hopefully i wont have to reduce them to spinner wedge shafts

Not an expert but have heavy experience.Rifle's flight the same whether they're 5.0 or 7.5. The big difference is in static shaft weight and little else.

But when you under tip a 7.0 all the way to 4.5 you have a much longer parallel section

I seriously doubt you can tip them for 4.5 and get the flight down enough to matter if they are flying too high now. I have to defer to Howard on specifics but it seems you are chasing something that may not exist.

7.0's are in the 125-130 gram range,4.5's are like 105g.. The weight is in the wall thickness, the profile is exactly the same. Rifle's get up faster but have a flatter trajectory than DG. Your idea of how to lower trajectory is somewhat off.You might yield higher FCM by added tipping (.5 max?) but there is a point of diminishing or zero return.What you get w/higher FCM on Rifle's is straighter flight and NOT lower trajectory.I have 5.0's and & 7.5's and swung 6.0's for 15 years. They all fly the same and the distance king is the 7.5's. Go figure.

i need to explain. I ordered Rifles in 4.5s ,They came in 7.0 blank with tipping instructions to 4.5.I didnt get the higher FM s intentionally or with a idea to lower flight!

but having them sent over from the US i need to do something with them

 

In reality they are fine for me and a colleague

 

I have tipped my own to 5.0 which is 0.5 stronger than i would normally play.

I play my rifles at 4.75 but wanted the weight of the 6.0. why I love them so much. Get the best of both worlds

interesting Howard says they are very versatile for that reason

 

some Pros play say 5.5s tipped to 6.5 or 7.0 to get a tight low ball flight

 

i just wonder if their is any advantage over the KBS Tours Parallel tip which also can be trimmed to various flexes

Its not bad .I am an accountant and Maths guy so i like this stuff

 

Howard is the man,but hes not around right now.

 

The maths to get what ever flex is not hard,but is a 7.0 blank tipped all the way back to a 4.5 playable?

 

seems to be for me,and have stiffened up a bit,as was suggested

 

Folk might say the tip is way more active,but its a 7.0 tip!
