Mizuno ST190/190G Review - Rick Shiels

Agreed. IMO some of you are getting too personal - take what you want from the review, if you don't like or agree with it - move on. Why is there a need to insult his channel, his testing procedures, his ability to score in pro-ams (what does that have to do with a review?), etc...

And the same about the comments about TXG. If you don't like their reviews, no problem, move on, why insult the guys on the channel or judge how they present their material?

Not an attack at anyone, let's just keep it to the golf.

I completely agree with everything you said.

I was getting confused reading about ads and not knowing what you guys were talking about. Maybe some of you do not know by paying YouTube something like $11 a month you will not see commercials and have many powerful features like downloading videos, having lists, etc.

Now, on the video, I think there are many sensitive mizuno lovers (I may be one) that were expecting far superior numbers. To them I said, go buy the older version for cheap, starting at $120 on eBay for LH and $152 for RH

Yeah, was definitely surprised to see the ST190 didn't perform better than the ST180 for him given all the early chatter was that Mizuno had hit another gear.

Has he done a review of any of the new drivers coming out this year that are better than last years models? I haven’t seen one review that has. Perhaps we are truly pretty close to being maxed out on driver technology despite what the manufacturrs say

Shiels reviews are typically useless which is why TXG is so refreshing. He doesn't use the same shaft or even specs in each review. He doesn't even try. Unless I am Rick Shiels and don't know it, his reviews serve literally no purpose other than seeing the club I want to try in action before I get a chance myself. It's basically just potential confirmation bias in video form.

Agree 100%, there is no reason to watch Sheils or Crossfield, they had there time now stick a fork in them they are done.

TXG and Ian Fraser is the best.

Done for year selling it all.

If you look at the numbers you would notice he was smashing the 180 higher, had higher launch and less spin (strike is king). No wonder the 180 went further. For club reviews, it's never a good idea to focus on numbers unless you're Mark Crossfield (#262). On the plus side, he confirms how good it looks and sounds.

And this is why you watch multiple reviews

Watch yes. Rely on? No. This is why if you are able you actually hit the club for yourself with a shaft/set up you are comfortable with instead of relying on reviews. Reviews that likely have zero in common with your own swing characteristics. While some reviews can be a baseline for interest too many people rely on them 100%. Which leads to bad decisions based on the review and they up disappointed. Go figure. It happens continually.

First we got THE driver with the cobra, then came the Ping ran out of ideas thing and now we get the most beautiful driver ever? I am so done with his clickbait titles.

Yet you know the last three titles. It's working Rick!

I am not debating his success. I am simply fed up with this whole youtube clickbaity schtick in general. Not just Rick Shiels. I simply think it is embarassing if you habe to attract people with red arrows and sensasionalistic titles, instead of putting your focus on the quality and uniqueness of your content. The quality of mainstream youtube has declined massively in recent years.

Its everywhere not just in golf. Its the youngins...man they fall for the clickbaity stuff...they drive the views

Ah yes blame the youngins. You merely adopted the youtube. They were born in it, molded by it.

They know it's click bait, they simply don't care because such is the world of social media.

Don't forget young people live in a world built by previous generations. It's also slightly far fetched to say someone interested in the drivers shouldn't watch the review because of the title.

As for the actual content, I do wonder what's up with the lowish smash factor, was it Rick's swing or the club head?

Both the JPX and 180 are very good drivers now available for a discount. 180 if you want a deep face, JPX if you want a tall face. As always get fitted, otherwise it’s an expensive and pointless experiment.

Yeah isnt that crazy I dont mind the blue head and heck for $150-175 you get a Tensei shaft granted not a CK Pro but still a $150 shaft

Shiels' reviews have gotten worse. Crossfield too. I want to see dispersion.

Their shots from on the course are worthless, look at me hit the ball and then show a club profile, to music.

I want to see dispersion on the monitors and then I want to know how the club performed on course. What's the shot bias? Did the ball do what you wanted...etc.

Their stuff is rubbish. Alex from golfbox at least makes it funny. And does the above...

Maybe I don't understand what clickbait is....I always thought it meant that someone says something in a title, and then when you look at the content, it is something different. example. Tiger quits the game. Then you open up and find out he left a poker game early to go get something to eat.....I never was a Rick Shiels fan, but seems to me, in his content on both the F9 and the Mizuno he says just what he said in the title.

Clickbait is teasing something in the title and having to watch the video to find out. Instead of just saying "Cobra F9 driver review" it's "This is THE DRIVER to beat in 2019...".

Remember this guy is a driving range Pro who struggles to break 80 in Pro Am events.

Which kinda sorta makes him MORE like "us" than less, no ?

Or would you better relate if Dustin Johnson did the tests ?

This thread reminds me of all the posters who complain about a THREAD yet keep reading it and even keep posting on it instead of just ignoring it.

I know this is a pretty radical idea but if you don't like Shiel's, or anyone else's content for that matter, just restrain yourself and DON'T WATCH IT. ;)

I think it's very fair to critique these guys, not sure why it wouldn't be actually. They're entertainers, and people absolutely have the right to say what they think about them rather than just silently either choosing to watch or not watch. Strange concept that one shouldn't express an opinion of them.

And that said, I do agree Shiels and even Finch kind of lost the plot a bit and seem MUCH more concerned about tricks and gimmicks to drive subs and views than intriguing content. Say what you will about Crossfield, he seems to be doing the best job of the big ones at trying to focus on educating viewers on the realities of equipment, and of course his playing vlogs have always been equal parts sitcom and golf.

I'm kinda liking Ask Golf Nut lately, has similar thoughts on what one can reasonably expect from gear as Crossfield. And he's not an egomaniac, which seems to be a problem with some of these guys. So many great channels now actually, and I find the up and comers to be the most fun to watch in general.

The more the better in my opinion. I like the different reviews types and personalities for getting lots of points of view and video. In the end I hit whatever I like and then get it properly fitted so it’s spot on for me.

These vids help me during times I can’t get to the course or range to fill time as entertainment ?
