When you finally admit you are getting old !

51 and feel 70 with too much around the middle and 3 back surgeries in my mid 30's

I was the longest guy at my club a dozen years ago. Now I play with 130 lb kid that is 29, swings 117mph and flies it well over 300. HUMBLING when he's a little pocket monkey that is less than half my weight !!!!!

Normally a 107-110 guy myself. 104mph last week. Overcoming a couple of speed sapping injuries from last season (low right side of back and left golfers elbow). I still have my upper body strength but I think genetics and very poor flexibility are slowly doing me in

Funny tennis elbow for me (had it a million times) didn't hurt speed. Inside of elbow = ARRGHHHHHHH. When extending your arm is agonizing, you lose speed

I'm 37 and am probably the longest non-pro in my club. Mtljeff will do the Kobe Bryant blood spinning thing in Germany if he has to... long drives forever!!!!

You know, Kobe did a few other things to stay "young."

You know DP, you could move up a tee and have more fun (I’m sorry, I just had to).

I turn 69 in April, and my conditioning is about as good as it can be. Nonetheless, I thinking that my walk and carry days are over. I may retire to a cart.

That's awesome you lasted this long! I stopped carrying in my early 40's. Lol

Hell with that, I've never carried!!!!

Teed that one up for you nicely Sir.

Actually, one of my fave things is the occasional one that gets past VNutz. He never hears the end of it.

40 is now “getting old”??!!!

Dude, I’m 62 and can still move it out there with most of the guys who are half my age. My regular group include a couple guys that are built like silverback gorillas and are 40 something and I can still keep up with them and more often than not, blow it past them.

One of the best things about golf is that it’s not about age or size, but rather skill and ability and just like the scorecard doesn’t have pictures on it, it also doesn’t require you to include your age.

Turning 60 in March. Just regulated to R shafts. I'm fine with that, because even as a young man I was never the longest among my playing partners. What I have been able to do is keep the ole' handicap down at 10 playing maybe twice per week, with a good short game and solid putting. Don't need crazy swing speed for either, and it still win a few bucks vs the big bombers in the group. I have stopped playing most scrambles/outings, because it seems to be all about distance, which pretty much eliminates me at times. Just enjoy the game with the gifts we were blessed with and everything will work out fine.

I'm going from S300's to something lighter. Fitter suggested AWT 2.0 but wants me back to compare them to my Maltby's.

Didn’t notice that the scorecard knows how, just how many. Who really cares what the shaft flex says if it works for you. And saying 40 is getting old is crazy. A guy in our group turned 80 late last year and he’s shot his age several times over past 4 or 5 years and has something like 11 holes in one.

I’m 38 now and swing speed has dip below 100 for the first time so I went thru an equipment overhaul in combination with swing lessons for longevity.

I couldn’t continue to swing the club like I use too if so want to be around.

For example, went to 115 grams steel shafts in the irons to combat fatigue. Switched over to a graphite shaft in the two iron to maintain speed. Using more bounce in the lofted wedges to advanced the ball.

Some of those bombers bomb the ball but can't chip and putt at all

I played with a guy that hit it 300 in the fairway but anywhere on or near the green and it was over

It's great to hold off Father Time as much as possible but when you start losing the fight it's best to acknowledge it and let the technology work for you than wallow in denial. I see a lot of older guys using their 10+ year old clubs and not making adjustments to their equipment or their club selection that are constantly short of their target. Rather than acknowledge the loss of distance they make excuses and endure the same results swing after swing, it's the definition of insanity.

This thread is awesome! I’m newly 40 and at my last fitting maxed out at 107!

On my 40th birthday I bought myself something- a second hybrid. A 23* 4iron replacement. It’s a point and shoot 200yd club. The guys working at where I get my sticks at gave me a gentle ribbing.

It’s my old man club, and I love it.

I’m a better player now than I was at 30, with less swing speed. It does help that I started when I was 12.

lol. I started this thread but yes I'm much better now than 10 years ago. And i did dabble with a 23 deg hybrid and loved it. Driver 4 wood 19 and 23 deg hybrids then 5 iron might be in the works

Turned 55 and finally admitted the X100's are not my friend's anymore. Recently bought a 9 wood. One has to admit one is getting older. Older but hopefully wiser.

Very similar here, but instead of replacing X100’s it was Project X 6.0’s that we’re shown the door after many years.

Unfortunately, rather than getting wiser I think it’s the opposite for me. I swear I get dumber by the day. Although my wife still insists it’s not possible for me to get any dumber!
