GAPR mid

Any reviews of the GAPR mid? Seems like all the reviews focus on the differences between the GAPRs or say it’s reminiscent of the Adams dhy. I held this club for the first time at the west Michigan golf show yesterday and it has piqued my interest. I’m in dire need of a club between my 3w and 4i and can’t decide between hybrid/DI/5w. Maybe this is the perfect compromise? Who’s tested this club?

Im in the same boat you are in search of that club between 4i and 3w. Went to golf galaxy about a week ago and hit just about every driving iron/hybrid they had and the gapr lo blew me away. Hands down my favorite. Very forgiving and loved the ball flight. Am definately picking up one soon. The mid should be just as good with a little higher ball flight.

I've only tested these in simulators, but I've tried the Gapr Mid (21 loft) three times and always hit it well with perfect numbers. The feel is awesome and it just works.

 

If these weren't the ugliest clubs I had ever seen, I would already have one in my bag. (OMG that awful green sherbet accent color :swoon: ). The look, for now, is still a stumbling block.

 

I have also tried the Gapr Low and it's significantly less forgiving and doesn't feel as good.

I just picked up a mid with a recoil proto utility 110f5

 

I’ve liked the mid in testing but hated the stock shaft. Way to light I couldn’t control it. I loved the UDI but I’m not playing multiple times a week to be able to consistently hit it well

Gut feel

 

I loved original recoil hybrid proto 105f5 except it had too much of a kick to it.

 

Read reviews saying it had the same profile except a stiffer tip. Also it compared exactly to dynamic gold in flight and feel, which is the iron shaft I play.

Hit it, didn't like it.

 

Not as good results as my M1 hybrids so stayed put. Others have loved it though so each to their own

Played the mid for a bit and ended up going back to my 3 iron. The change was not for lack of performance, got good numbers just couldnt get used to the size.

Just finished my 2nd round with the Mid 3. I'm liking it so far. The random playing partners have been commenting positively about shot shape and trajectory.

It didn't work for me and I moved on to the PXG DI3. That thing fires bullets!

Using it as a 3-iron/driving iron and, so far, so good.

My boy plays the Gapr Lo with a high launching Tour AD shaft approx 1/2 inch shorter for control. The ball flies plenty high and he loves it.

 

But I'll admit that if his sponsor hadn't provided it for him, there is zero chance in the world I would have paid listed price for a single club. It's outrageously expensive.

My buddy has three of them, 6, 5, 4 to go along with his M6 irons and loves them.

I tried one of them and couldn't get over the look.

I read people saying that they couldn't get used to the looks. But haven't we all been playing hybrids since god knows when? Surely these were an improvement on hybrids.

Wanted one, liked the looks, but the GAPR Hi was better.

It's a great club even though it looks a bit odd, but function before form anway. Put a 4MID (21°) in place of my 4 iron which was a good move since this one is so much easier to hit (same lie as well). Cut it down 3/4" to more closely match the original iron, added a 12g weight to the sole for SW correction, and have become quite fond of it.

I'm still very happy with my 3 Mid, hitting plenty of fairways.

Have the 2 Lo. I dislike how much the toe is off the ground for me without being able to bend it. I also had to cut it down substantially. Very unforgiving and pretty much demands high mph swing, but when hit dead center explodes off the face. Looks real funky.

@Hammer22 Where did you find heavier weights for the GAPR????

Anyone had any experiences (good or bad) with 18* GAPr Mid and then reducing the loft by 1.5*? Does it hook more? Does it provide the low shot shape you were hoping for? Easy to hit?

 

Had an Adams DHY and could rocket that bad boy, but need another 5-10 yards in distance to fit between 3w and 4i.

... I hit my playing pards GAPR Mid and absolutely loved it. Surprisingly long off the tee and great from the fairway. I just picked one up but have not played it yet. I like that it is more playable from light rough and lunches a little higher than my P790 4 iron. I rotated a RBZ Tour 21* and my P790 4 iron depending on the course so the GAPR Mid should replace both without worrying about what course I am playing.

I had a chance to hit the gapr clubs, the gapr high was definitely high, where as the mid was lower and penetrating. The only thing I didn’t like was the feel, really soft and felt like hitting a marshmallow

I dropped mine down 1* to 17* and found I was able to hit less left than when it was at 18*.

Anyone compare these to the original UDI in terms of forgiveness?

 

I'm looking for something around 18* of loft without much offset that is a little more forgiving than the UDI, especially off the toe. Thinking a GAPR mid might give me a touch more forgiveness vs the UDI or the GAPR Low

From a long time ago so not sure you'd remember but any recollection what the Gapr Mid 4 sole weight was before you changed it to a 12g weight - 6 grams? Tinkering with one now and cut shaft down 3/4" like you...now wondering if changing weight would help. Thanks.

I changed the sole weight when I also cut down 3/4" and reshafted with a heavier shaft.  I do not remember what the original weight was, but tried a 10g and 12g and ended up playing the 10g.  I have not measured the swingweight.

If you want a dramatically less-ugly version of the GAPR, check out the new TaylorMade SIM hybrid (not the Max). It's very sleek with an all-black crown, adjustable hosel and when I hit It I couldn't help but think of the GAPR. I had great results testing the GAPR (just like with the new SIM), but I could never get over the looks.

I'm torn between a 22* Hi and 21* Mid. I like the idea of a smaller than hybrid head. I got a couple Adams thinking they were smaller, but was disappointed.
