New Ish MP53 Black on Ebay - Finally all is right in the world

After 5 years of looking for a new set of MP53 I found these.

 

Refinished, look great - as close to new as you can get.

 

I'll sleep like a baby tonight.

 

 

 

 

Jeez I wouldnt even hit those frankly. I have the real unicorn set a basically new set of lefty MP 53s found them on PGA tour Superstore couple years ago havent even hit them . Frankly Mizuno (Vosh you reading this) should re release MP53 with modern lofts and HD Grain Flow forged would be a massive seller.

 

I think the lofts were fine. The PW was 46. I would pay a fricken mint for a brand new set 3-PW S300 stock. I know somebody must have one somewhere!

 

I call mizuno every few months to see if there are plans of re releasing lol.

SC are very nice. I just dont feel Mizuno has made a forgiving MP iron since the 53 / 54 and maybe the 15s. The 25s don't count they were horrible

Agree. Would add the 59’s and 5’s as more on the forgiving side. Everyone raves about the 64 but those did not seem forgiving to me.

For those of you that were asking....

 

Tiger Nick offers several refinish options, these are finished with the Black Nitride which he describes as Black Oxide on steroids. That means that the original chrome nickel plate from Mizuno was stripped and then the raw carbon heads are treated. They will show wear a lot more than a plated finish.

 

I have yet to try the Black Chrome plate in anything but a putter. I had a putter done in a matte finish and it turned out really good. Gave it to a client that I play with frequently and the finish has been pretty durable, on par with the Scotty Cameron Pro Platinum.

 

I have a set of MP-60 heads, that I've recently been playing again, and I will probably pull them and have them plated by Nick in good old fashioned chrome plate which is an option although I don't know if he advertises it on his website. Obviously that would be a more classic look like the factory finish.

Beautiful 53's. Does the black finish change the feel very much?

 

Any finish is strictly cosmetic. It does nothing for feel unless your brain thinks it does.

What did TigerNick say about the swingweight change due to the loss of the heavier chrome plating vs. the Black Nitride finish?

Was a lot of tip weights added?

Seems more true to what it replaced and to me black chrome is really a great look for irons. Still has a satin look but richer. It looks like TigerNick really pays attention to specs with the spine alignment and all, but I did wonder about the weights of the heads as I do not use tip weights. That’s one reason I like Ping irons for their tuning port that puts the weight adjustments behind the face.

I asked since I had some chromed Vokey heads sent off for a DLC finish. When I built them I had to add a ton of tip weight!!!

Just curious if the same issue with the Black Nitride...I expect so.

He can do satin, but that involves a media blast before the chrome, so more weight lost.

 

That's the big issue, if you play heavy shafts or over length it's not too big of a deal, but I don't like big tip weights, personally.
