i just wish Dormie would do an a la carte option. while 5 courses on paper sounds great, Nebraska and Evansville, IN are not the easiest places in the world to get to

Keep hearing rumors about Arizona courses they are negotiating for. I think somewhere in Florida or Arizona is a must for them eventually.

Does Berkeley Hall offer memberships if you aren’t a home owner? My parents are in Belfair, right down the road, and you need to reside in the neighborhood as far as I know.

Could be wrong, but I believe that Belfair also has some non-owner memberships.   I know BH offers a national membership as I looked into it.  

 

I LOVE the courses at Belfair.  I could see myself living in either BH, Belfair or CR.

Agree. For multiple courses it is actually extremely inexpensive.

Hi. I’m also considering a second golf home ... I have options to join either Philadelphia Cricket Club or Prairie Dunes. Any thoughts on one vs. the other?

Both are great spots. Philly Cricket is probably easier to get to, but Prairie Dunes has a very secluded vibe once you are there, especially if you stay on property.

Dormie donates a lot of memberships to local charities which auctions them off.  I was able to win a full year national membership for a fraction of that cost, which includes the initiation.  I will have the option to renew my membership at the full annual rate.

I used to do business with a someone that had a TPC membership. He said if you're a member at one course you can play all of them.  I don't know the particulars but the one that he would take me to (Avenel) in the DC area was nice.  Might be an option to check.

He's correct. Dormie is in almost every golf related online auction. If you can find one that doesn't get national attention, you will likely be able to get it for not much more than the annual dues and as he said you are an official member at that point and can renew if you want for the annual dues.

I looked at both and talked to some golfing buddies as well. Philly CC tee sheet is slammed and tough to get tee times. PD is a wonderful vibe and all golf one you get there. Quality cabins as well. I believe they still do a shuttle to and from Wichita airport.

I looked at Philly Cricket and remember National Memberships were capped at about 12 total rounds (you and a guest would be 2). PD did not return my request.

Initiation now 15K and 6K/yr dues. $800 per night for use of their on site cottages. 

 

Wouldn't give any firm numbers but said their ultimate goal is 10 courses, and each time they've added a course dues have gone up a grand

You can get the first year with the initiation cheaper. Dormie donates memberships + first year to just about every golf auction for a $10k starting bid and they usually end up going for not much more than that. They don't have much more room to raise the annual. They will lose national members without a close course if they go much higher. Question will be as they buy new courses will the network benefits for the local members allow them to raise the annual and forego the national member without a close course.

Look into Hawk’s Ridge in Ball Ground, GA. Flying into Atlanta is easy from anywhere. The club has overnight accommodations, I believe.

I've heard that they're in a membership "drive" to generate cash and have been contacted almost weekly to follow-up on my interested from last fall. Not sure if that's a good sign or a bad one, but it's a great facility.

Interesting. It is a bit remote, depending on one's perception of such things. My friend is a national member who spends most of his time in NYC. He considers the drive from Hartsfield up to Ball Ground to be no big deal but his frame of reference is driving from NYC out to the nearest accessible public golf courses or clubs where his friends belong.

It's 60 miles each way through some of the worst traffic in the country. I wouldn't be very interested in that drive.

Right. A hassle for one round, but pretty easy for a weekend stay (at least compared to NYC). Before COVID it could take you an hour to get from Manhattan to midtown. My friend says he is using his car a lot more than he did in prior years simply because traffic in the city is down dramatically.

I know that Kingsley Club in Northern Michigan is owned by Escalante Golf....its a top 100 course and one of the best I have ever played.  I dont know anything about Icon
