Im trying to figure out what a porterage fee at bandon would cover. I understand what the fee is for, but not like theres a doorman or bell person at the lofts or bell person bringing me my clubs like at a hotel, is there? If not, what exactly is a porterage fee going to cover at resort?

Im in portland, would drive down with my clubs so i wouldn’t be making use of the guest services with shipping or receiving clubs, id drive myself to the lofts and carry own stuff in to the room, i leave tip to room service at the end of the trip, I tip my drivers each trip, tip on my food/beverages, I tip my caddy, I cant figure out why id be paying a porterage fee.

Can't help you on the porterage fee.  But I would suggest, as you seem to be a generous person, to leave the room service tip daily.  Maid service/room cleaning service can change daily.

i generally decline daily service. When i stay somewhere for any length of time, if i leave the privacy tag off any one day, i for sure leave some for the staff as well for that very reason.

Heading back for the first time in a few years and going to kick things off at Shorty's. Do they have a collection of Sunday bags to take a few clubs like they do at the Preserve?

One more sleep till Bandon...

Playing:

Shorty's

Bandon

Taking it easy this year, mid morning tee times and no replays (we're older now). Looking forward to Shorty's but will sadly miss Trails. The spare time will be spent at the range, punch bowl, or one of the short courses. I've got a good friend joining us this year, from the east coast, and I'm really looking forward to seeing him be there for the first time, if that makes sense.

Makes total sense. And I like your style. You don't have to be on the course for a second round of golf. Instead you can partake of all the amenities surrounding the game. In addition to those you mentioned you could hang in the Bunker Bar discoursing on the meaning of life and golf or hang at McKees watching golf on TV or practice putting and chipping or just sit on the patio taking it all in and sniffing that ocean air.

Hi Everyone. I went to Bandon in the spring of 2024 and forgot that I was given a gift card a while back, so I didn't use it and don't have any plans to return in the near future. As a result, I have a $150 unused gift card going stale in my wallet. If anyone is going soon and would like the gift card, send me a message and I'll make sure to get it to you so someone can actually get some benefit out of it.

Couldn't you use it to buy merch online?

Me and a buddy are headed down to Bandon for a long Memorial Day trip.  It’ll be my 3rd time and his 2nd but as I’m 0-2 in the recent lottery system, we’re treating it like it could be the last time for a while.

That said, like Swingem, we’re getting older (and I’m coming off a cervical fusion!) and we‘ll be pacing ourselves.  We’re going to play all 5 courses with morning tee times and then make game-time decisions on replays in the afternoon based on body and course conditions/availability.  Neither of us have played either of the Par 3s so I’m sure we’ll hit one of those. The nice thing about going as a twosome is that it gives a lot of flexibility, both for the golf and the restaurants.

That’s great! We head down in mid April and are taking the opposite approach. Got 12 of us going and as of now we have planned 36 + par 3, 36 + par 3, 36, 18. We will see if every (any) one can make it to the end still standing. Can’t wait to get back down. Here is to good weather for both of us!

No kidding, when we went down in late October we had 30-50mph winds and horizontal rain at times.  On the bright side, my rain gear held up great!

Was this tripped booked differently than the lottery system?

If so, did you pay extra to book the tee times as a non resort guest or how did the planning go?

If u misunderstood and you did book via the lottery then disregard.

Just got back. It was great to start on Shorty's, really fun and a cool warm up in cool but nice weather. OM was nice too as the weather held. Sat at SR was WINDY with a little rain. Big fun and scores.

Every trip to Bandon in Feb is a crap shoot on weather. Could be sunny and sixties, or rain, wind, cold. It's not often that we get rain, wind and cold. Sunday at PD we had RAIN, WIND and cold from the get go and sustained for all 18. It was wild. We were in the BD pro shop later when Shoe walked in and said it was one of the heaviest day he's seen out there. The two caddies in our group said it was the heaviest they'd been out in. But the attitude in our group was high and everyone had an adventure. It was memorable.

We bailed on BD Monday because the forecast was for more of the same, high wind and flood warnings. One day of that is enough. Had a leisurely breakfast and got an early start on the drive home before the roads flooded. Next year we're going in April so maybe something more on the sunny and sixties side.

Holy Hell! I am about to buy a new rain jacket, hopefully I don’t have to use it! I do live in the PNW so regardless if it’s needed on that trip, it’s needed in life.

After our trip in late October 2024, I turned around and made a reservation for two days for late May (outside of or before the lottery system went into effect).  Those two days were the only days that lodging was available at the time which fit our availability.  Since that original reservation date I checked back periodically and last week two more lodging nights opened up (via a cancellation) on the front end of our two-day reservation.  Score!

I am not exactly sure how reservations work now outside of the lottery system?  Can lottery losers still find available dates after Bandon goes through all the winners?  Dunno but if someone does know I’d like to know that answer as well

My first trip to Bandon was as a solo in late February 2024 and besides some spitting rain periodically over the 3 days, the weather was great, including a lot of sunshine and little wind.

As my buddy (who grew up in England) says, “if we’re going to play links-style golf, we have to expect legitimate links weather”!

glad you had a good trip.  How did your 1st time friend enjoy the experience?

We played Trails in the morning and it was cold with the horizontal rain.  We were debating bailing on our afternoon PD round (many folks did) but decided to give it a try.  The Golf Gods rewarded us with a wide open course and literally sunshine and rainbows!  Oregon weather - give it 5 minutes and it’ll change!

BTW, I bought a waterproof bucket hat for the trip and it was money!

You can call to book at any time within 365 days of your trip.

The lottery system is further ahead than that so within the 365 day window you are basically hoping to snag a cancellation or find a somehow unclaimed room.

Depending on the time of year, you can also book tee times only up to a year in advance, April-Sept (or Oct ?). The only caveat there is your first tee time has to be after 10AM. If you are only a twosome booking a single round each day to lock down times and then shuffling once you get within 21 days has worked well for me several times.

I dont think its 365 days prior.

Souce: I personally booked my groups 2026 trip well outside of the 365 day window as a non lottery reservation by phone.

The agent wasn’t going to at first; however they just had not received the memo that it was open.

Thanks. He had a great time. It's not the golf that he's used to in South Carolina, but he had a really good caddie and caught on quickly.

A quick tip for anyone returning from a trip to BD: Wash all of the gear that was out there with you. Salt is the enemy if ignored. I had a buddy that left his stuff in the garage and didn't get back to it for a couple months. He didn't do that again.

Agree with this.  I think once they finish the lottery winners, the respective dates are open.

The current website says taking reservations through April 2026 and I think that's open to everyone.  May-September 2026 is getting the lottery call backs and October-December 2026 drawing will happen in the future.

Dude you went out in that? Wild 😂

We had our group times starting at 9 at trails and bailed early. Much like you, easier to bail on the round when it's your last, so we hit the road early.
