short trip scotland with pictures (royal dornoch etc.)

hi guys. my trip is starting this sunday 19th may with the following itinerary:

 

sunday: pitlochry + royal dornoch

monday: 2 x brora

tuesday: golspie + royal dornoch

wednesday: boat of garten + blairgowrie rosemount

 

i am going to post a few reports and pictures in here. the weather looks decent and i'm hoping to see a lot of gorse, especially at dornoch.

Just looked at their webcam and the gorse that would be to the right of number 2 looks to be in full bloom. Should be a great time to see it. When we were there in mid-June the bloom was almost completely gone, but the course was still awesome.

yes, that's why i planned this trip in may. it looks like the sun won't be shining that much during my trip... but never mind. it's always glorious in the highlands.

until now i never got it done to photograph the course in full bloom, sunshine and flood. something like a lifelong goal of mine...hihihi

I’m in St Andrews right now, headed to Dornoch on Saturday. The gorse around here is just past full bloom and starting to decline just slightly, but all the bushes are still bursting with yellow. The weather has been spectacular the last few days, with not a cloud in sight. While there are some showers predicted on the weekend the forecast keeps improving every time I look at it, and I’d expect your second round at Dornoch will get a lot of sunshine and colorful gorse. I’ll just miss you as I’m playing Brora on Sunday, RD on Monday, Castle Stuart on Tuesday, and then heading to Ayrshire. Hope we all get great weather!

Great to here! My weather app keeps forecasting more and more rain the last two days. Let's see how it turns out. I wish you a good trip further on and great golf shots.

well I am sitting in my living room looking outside waiting for the rain to stop. Supposed to be stopping at 2 so plan is to tee off then.

We sat in the clubhouse looking out on to the first tee from 12-2 and still raining, didn't stop till 4 so we didn't play. Sad to not play the comp but I am playing 8 of the next 9 days before I head back to Houston so don't mind. The course needed the rain.

I'm assuming you want to see gorse in flower. This pic was taken right after Memorial Day. 2017. So your chances are pretty good. But it seems to all depend on the weather that particular year. We started in the Highlands, and worked our way down to St. Andrews. The gorse had less flowers at the courses the the further south we got.

hey guys pictures will follow. gorse is past peak, but still glorious. it went away earlier because of storms and the weather. played RD three times. today was glorious in full sunshine. the other days it was cloudy, but never too much rain. i played pitlochry the first time and it didn't impress me too much. maybe because it looks like your in switzerland. still a few good holes and views and very well maintained. golspie in gorse is also very picturesque. i always liked the course. maybe because it's mostly straight forward and i always score there... i had a bit of rain in brora. still a good round. now the last two courses tomorrow and then back to switzerland.

I just returned from 3 glorious weeks travelling around Scotland with good weather all round except for the last weekend - well you have to have some rain in Scotland. The trip was with the good lady so only managed 3 rounds but those were at Fortrose & Rosemarkie, Brora and the grandest golf course of all, Royal Dornoch. Everything you read about RD is true. A magical experience.

just back from the covered range, no golf for me today, was supposed to play in a medal too. oh well, hope a bit further north you are not as wet!

yesterday I got a bit rained off at the boat. still a good experience. I expected too much of it, because of all the great reviews. don't get me wrong, it's great. a lot more heather than I expected. maybe too hilly for my taste.

 

blairgowrie rosemount I played in sunshine. I loved it again. it reminds me of the northern italian parkland beautys (Villa d'este, Castelconturbia) and the Surrey heathland courses. I will start my overseas membership there in 2020 or 2021, because I love the course and the area.

 

@Chanceman: Oh yes RD is. Most fun and beautiful golf course ever...
