Push Cart on a Budget

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, so as you can assume from the title I am looking for recommendations for push carts on the lighter end of the cost spectrum. Preferably no more than about $135(ish) as student loan payments begin shortly lol. I try to carry about 2 rounds week as work permits, but my shoulders and lower back have begun to tighten up over the past few months.

The 2 links above are a couple models I've been looking at, but TGW is a relatively small organization from Kansas and I haven't heard many reviews regarding them, although they look well for the price. What does WRX recommend, within my narrow budget?

P.S. Rationales on 3 wheel vs 4 wheel are welcomed as well.

I've been a Clicgear 3.5 user since 2014. Long story short, I recently 'lost' it and order the Caddytek Swivel from Costco. Should be received this week. I'm a bit worried about how the swivel wheel holds up to 100's of rounds of golf. I'll try to update and compare to the 3.5 once I've played a few rounds.

I got a Caddytek ez fold this spring and love it. If I could wave a magic wand and change one thing it would be to give it a hand brake but overall I am more than pleased. Best golf purchase I’ve made in a long time.

Edited to add it’s a 3 wheel. Hard to imagine a 4 wheel being better but I’ve not used one.

Yeah buy a used.....I just sold my clean Clic 3.0 for $125 with some attachments. Seems to be the average price for a good used one.

I would highly recommend the CaddyTek brand after having owned two now. It seems these now may have been renamed/rebranded to TGW brand? This one looks exactly like what I have now and I do not see any CaddyTek" brand on TGW's website now.

Thank you all for your input. After researching, I still decided to stay with TGW and went with the Player's 3 wheel cart. They had a $20 off special and I couldn't pass it up for $119. Also included was free 2 day shipping.....I however failed to notice this when I placed the order wednesday evening so it was just delivered today. How ground shipping would've turned out to be a quicker option I've no idea, but at the rate the rain keeps up here I may not see the course until July :'(

Walked two rounds with the Caddytek Swivel over the weekend and am so far impressed.

* I really like the swivel wheel. Its not a must have in a push cart, but was better than I expected. I am interested to see how it does on a hillier course. The course I played over the weekend was very flat.

* The small cooler and bag connected to the bottom is a nice feature and something I can see myself using often.

* My stand bag stays fixed and does not rotate at all. On the Clic, my bag would always rotate by 45 degrees.

There are a few things I miss about the Clic:

* The built in umbrella holder. I can stick my umbrella in my bag but that is not nearly as convenient.

* I miss the small velcro straps on the handle. I would often place my glove on those as I walked between shots

* The net attached the handle was slightly bigger on the Clic

Based on my first impressions, I'm happy with the Caddytek and glad I have the $ in my pocket. I think the larger question is how it hold up over 5+ years, which my old Clic did. I'll report back if anything else comes up that adds to this discussion.

9 holes Friday, 18 Saturday, and 36 Sunday, and I don't know why I didn't buy a push cart a long time ago! My lower back isn't anywhere near as stiff as it was before, not to mention that my backside stays about 200% drier now that I'm not lugging my bag around on my back. Sunny day and looking for some shade? Pop an umbrella in the holder. The model I picked up from TGW, the 3-wheel player's model, also has ample storage room up top for valuables and a range finder, and down low has an attached bag with a pouch large enough for a new box of balls and an insulated pouch below for more drinks. I must admit, I am a push cart convert and proud!

I'm not familiar with the Swivel, but my CaddyTek One V4 has the umbrella holder on the handle and the net in the handle is quite deep. Also, the plastic covered pocket is good sized. I also get a lot of use out of the insulated cooler pouch that hangs between the frame by the rear wheels. This looks like the current model of mine: [https://tgw.com/golf-carts/golf-push-carts/tgw-tour-4-wheel-push-cart](https://www.tgw.com/golf-carts/golf-push-carts/tgw-tour-4-wheel-push-cart "https://tgw.com/golf-carts/golf-push-carts/tgw-tour-4-wheel-push-cart")

The previous model CaddyTek I owned lasted 5 years and the only thing I had to do was tighten 1 bolt with some thread-lock and that happened when it was pretty new. So I can only assume it just wasn't adequately tightened and worked itself out the first few rounds I played. Otherwise I only sold it to get that 4-wheeled version as it had the nice updated features and the cooler pouch.

  • 4 months later...

I ended up getting my Clicgear from Dick's for about $175. But, I think that I got lucky. When I went to the store, there was the standard $259 hang tag on the demo model. But, there was also a sticker that said $229. When I asked the manager about it, she said that they would honor the $229 price. When she sent someone back to get a cart for me, he came back empty handed and said that the floor model was the only one left and he couldn't find the box for it (which may have been why the $229 sticker was on it). The umbrella holder was also missing. But, that didn't matter to me because I was planning on buying the optional umbrella holder anyway. The manager then said that they would give me another 15% off if I wanted to buy it, which took the price down to about $195. I then told her that I had received a $20 off coupon that morning via email and asked if I would be able to use that. She said yes. That took the price down to just under $175.

The only thing that I regret is that I didn't buy a push cart a couple years earlier.

These are seriously the best carts for the money. TGW used to carry CaddyTek, but now has these TGW branded push carts which look identical to the old CaddyTek ones. Not sure if it was a buyout or if there's a company that makes these and anyone can get the branded or what the situation is. I bought mine when it was still CaddyTek but have this model and after two full seasons it is in great shape. Having the insulated cooler pouch is a nice feature too!

+1 for TGW branded carts. I have the TGW tour 3 wheel and it’s great. My version is exactly like caddytek so I’m assuming they’re all made in the same factory and just branded for different stores. I only wish it had the brake on the handle vs. by the rear wheel. Wait for a sale to buy it though. I paid $139 summer of ‘19 and it looks like they’ve increased the price to $159 (sale prices).

The deals are out there... got a 3.5 clic for my buddy here for $135... thought that was a great deal. I'm sure the CaddyTek is good but the CG are just tanks.

And beyond being tanks... with all of the repair parts available you can really make it last forever. It's refreshing that they use new features, design improvements, and customer satisfaction to sell new models, not just people buying new ones every year because their old one broke.
