Im playing Old American on the 26th of this month. Anyone play it lately and have any feedback?

I have never played the course before.

Pick the right tees and watch the pins as the greens are tiny and have many shelves. Course plays hard and fast and will require some run ups and creativity. Have fun. It’s one of my favorites in the metroplex.

As always, depends on ur budget. Hawks Creek just west of downtown is a decent track. Plenty of places to live/rent north of fossil creek

west of downtown is some places out towards Aledo where Split Rail is.

keller has sky creek ranch.

Burleson south of downtown has southern Oaks.

south Arlington / Mansfield has Tierra Verde.

Thanks! We just had an offer accepted in the Overton South area. Took us 3 offers to finally get a house!

Going to be in DFW for work in a few weeks, what’s the chances of getting on Trinity?

Anyone have any connections to there or other clubs in the area? Our club here in Michigan has been able to get me(us) on a lot of courses in the Midwest, but not in that DFW area

if not a nice club, what’s another 2,3 to play that are in decent proximity to the DFW area.

Anyone want to join as well feel free to PM me!

I’ll be in town the 15th-27th of May for work, would love to get together with somebody for a game. I’m going backwards on this thread looks like there is plenty of options. I’ll be pinning this!

Next to no chance, especially with Mid March to Mid May being peak outdoor weather for North Texas (members will be filling the tee sheets).

DFW area is tough for out of state play, especially the elite clubs (Northwood, BrookHollow, Preston Trail). All of the elite clubs won't even let part time staff play and the few full time employees that have some golf privileges have extreme restrictions (Northwood for example the long time full timers will try to sneak 8 or 9 holes on Monday which is they day there closed, sneaking a few rounds after the maintence crew is done is easier then actually trying to play on a course you work full time for).

Your best bet is a $100+ a round public course. Luckily there's plenty in DFW. Cowboys golf club is usually the top choice. It's the equivalent of a mid tier country club

Texas ranger club is another good one (it's host a yearly korn ferry event).

Old American is a great course as well, it hosts a LPGA event every year with a 1.5 million prize pool

Cowboys is over priced at $200 and only a few good holes.  Rangers is wide open, easy, and the greens are never as fast as they should be.  In my opinion  OA is the best of the three by a wide margin.  You can also look at Waterchase in Arlington and some muni's that are just as fun and half the cost.  Rockwood(ft worth), Tenison, Stevens, Cedar Crest.

Old American is for sure my favorite of the 3. Cowboys is a little overpriced but the main reason why I listed it is because the condition/scenery is great. I assumed since he was looking at Trinity Forest (elite club with 6 figure initation and over $300 guest fee) that he was looking for a nice course scenery/prestige wise (I like courses like Tenison/Stevens/Sherill Park but they look like Los Rios compared to these highend courses).

Played split rail with TexasTurf today. Truly awesome guy and we had a great time so thanks Greg!

Thanks, Jay. I had an awesome time, really enjoyed the round and the company. I'm glad we didn't play for cash - had my best ball striking round of the year and still got my a** kicked! Looking forward to the next time.

Doood. If I could hit the ball at your distance I’d be a professional. Great time and yes we will again. Fantastic day.

TT hits it a TON

I joined Skycreek so only paid $20. I believe it Skycreek is doing the same. They are making all their money on membershipa so if you want to play a weekend morning they are jacking up the price

I figured that was the same. I rarely play expensive courses on the weekends. That’s way too much.

I work nights and the only day I play on weekends is Sunday. Split rail at $59 is perfect.

I still want to play Split Rail sometime. It's just a long way from where I live up here in Anna. Might have to fit it in sometime on one of our trips to Squaw Valley that we do every year.

Have you been over to The Bridges lately?  Been thinking about trying it out again if the conditions were good.  Last time they lost a bunch of fairways but greens were ok.

Haven't played there since early last summer. Fairways were definitely suspect. But can't speak to current conditions.

I actually like Stone Creek up in Sherman better. Probably similar conditions as The Bridges but much better golf holes and course character IMHO.
