The entire industry is demanding firm and fast conditions. Then they deliver, and you still complain? 😉

played texas star sunday.  they mentioned that they are shutting down may to sept to redo greens and bunkers.  course conditions werent terrible but definitely not that good either.

from where i've played so far the last few weeks (heritage, sky creek, tx star, tx rangers), rangers is still in the best condition.

Course 2 at Sherill Park re-opened a few weeks back. Spent around 9 million on the renovation. Going to try to make it out there in April when the trees and grass start to bloom. Have always been a fan of the layout and how they have a walking rate which on weekday afternoons I'll play for like 20 bucks.

Do you know if they did much to the course itself (design, greens, layout, etc) - or was it all infrastructure, drainage, irrigation, etc?

Tee boxes, greens, and bunkers were completely gutted and re-done. New bunkers look really nice. Fairways re-seeded with improved irrigation/drainage.

Most of the course changes were on the front 9 but nothing drastic. #2 they removed the small pond. #5 they enlarged/rebuilt the pond. #6 they did tree work along the creek for better visibility.

They didn't do any major re-routing or design changes. Similar to Canyon Creek which is Sherrill Parks neighbor, it did a recent renovation which was mostly just improving what was already in place.

Anyone ever used the practice facility at Cowboys Golf Club? Looks like it is one price for all day and all the balls you want to hit. Looking for a good old fashioned day on the range and was wondering if it is worth the price?

"They say a putt won't go in if it doesn't get to the hole. Putts don't go in once they are past the hole either.". (Ben Crenshaw)

He was hitting it so pure he had to apologize to the sweet spot.

It’s decent but i wouldn’t want to spend more than an hour there. If you’re looking to make a day of it I’d suggest Watters Creek in Plano as long as the range is still on grass this time of year.

Has anyone played the Tribute lately?  I haven’t been out there in years and have it booked for Sunday. My 2nd spot might be open if anyone is interested.

I would go to Grapevine muni if you want to stay in the area.  Bigger chipping green with multiple holes and 2 putting greens.

I would also throw out Pecan Hollow as they have a little short course you can play as much as you want for 1 fee.

I saw this as well.

Just a quick question for anyone in the DFW area.

What and where are the country clubs that are well worth it to join where the initiation fees IS NOT $10k, $100k or month dues are not $600 to $2k a month?

I feel as there are public course that are better and have better amenities.

Maybe someone will have a better answer but I think it’s pretty tough to find a good club in this area that’s less than $10k to join or $600 per month in dues. At that point you are probably better off doing an annual membership at a public course (reduced rates and advanced tee time booking).

That’s what I’m doing these days anyway.

Yes I was thinking the same thing. My club is on that list and I was so surprised to be honest. I was like how is that even possible!!!

We have been hosting a lot of sanctioned tournaments and I think that has gotten our name out there but that ain’t really anything. Feels as they are whoring out our course and club.

Played Cedar Crest Monday and Stevens Park today. It’s like two different cities own the courses.

Cedar Crest is in great shape, especially the greens.

Stevens Park has a lot of tee boxes that are dirt only, terrible bunkers and many greens with bald areas and infested with poa.

Hopefully they get after Stevens and fix the issues.

I live near Oakmont CC in Denton and i think it’s a couple thousand and around $500/mo. I’ve been considering it but it’s not that great of a course. Golf up here is pretty sparse.

Probably doesn't exist at this point. You can't restrict a golf course access to only 500-575 members and charge that low of a price while still having it be a country club quality course and making at least some profit.

Anything 90k or higher initiation fee wise is probably equity/member owned club so those are supposed to break even. The corporate clubs are for profit (Clubcorp/Invited) but even then, the financials I've seen the dues mostly just cover the cost of the club and they make the bulk of their profit on things like special events and food and beverage.

Sub 10K with sub $600 monthly you're looking at like associate membership at Brookhaven/Hackberry or a Golf only Club that's semi private like Tribute/Old American.

Love that place. You're in the top private club in the market at that price level that's not about to close for a renovation.

Just like anyone at any club there can be things that could be better.

They are about to tear down our club house and build a new one so we will be homeless for about 18 months or longer

You're obviously pretty angry about something. I get it.  I've been there.

Send me a personal message or air it out on here and I'd be happy to help however I can.

You’re a pro there and you’re ripping your home course/employer on the Internet?  You might want to edit that post and remove reference to your club.  Just a thought.

Never said I was the pro there. Not sure where you got that information. I am a member and asking questions. I am not worried to air out my thoughts or differences within a club that I pay to be at.

Sorry, in the other thread someone referred to you as the pro at your club and you didn’t correct them, so I assumed.  Also in the other thread you said that your club ‘wasn’t worth it’.  Yet your club only has a $10k initiation fee and $510 a month in dues?

I must have missed that one. Can you send me a link to that one so I could clear that up. No worries all the way around.

Just because the club has that initiation fee and those dues does mean or make it worth it. You would be pleasantly surprised if I gave you a run down. I know many clubs more than likely have some of the same issues and problems. But it seems as we have the definition of insanity going on at ours.

If it’s not worth it, just leave.  But any club that cheap is likely gonna have some issues.  That’s why it’s so cheap.  Good, stable, well managed clubs tend to drive much higher fees.

There is not now doubt that stable and well managed comes at a higher fee. That is the overall point as it was more of a question overall of what is out there. I do not feel like this is cheap. If that is the case then I would have to adjust my own thinking. I just know how many of us currently at the club feel the same way in some form or fashion.
