There is not now doubt that stable and well managed comes at a higher fee. That is the overall point as it was more of a question overall of what is out there. I do not feel like this is cheap. If that is the case then I would have to adjust my own thinking. I just know how many of us currently at the club feel the same way in some form or fashion.

It's definitely not cheap, you're right about that. If you have more specific issues let me know, I can try to help you solve them. Unless you just want to leave, we can find you a good place to play. It's kind of a golf desert where you're at over the bridge on the private side besides Rockwall and Heath.

Anyone played at Grand Oaks in Grand Prarie recently. I never hear anything about it and it is not that far from me. I go to Prarie Lakes regularly and honestly wasn’t even aware it was there. Just wondering if it is worth checking out.

Edited by Shane Cavitt

"They say a putt won't go in if it doesn't get to the hole. Putts don't go in once they are past the hole either.". (Ben Crenshaw)

He was hitting it so pure he had to apologize to the sweet spot.

I think it's like an old school country club, probably populated by GM, aerospace, and defense contractor mid level managers back in the day. It is fun and quirky, lots of hidden creeks and ravines, small greens. Old clubhouse is condemned, crumbling and falling down a hill, but they have a pretty good set up in a new building which services as a pro shop and bar. Reminds me of your typical country club in ohio.

Frisco Lakes is raising their PLP membership price to $99/month. I still think its good value, but I moved a little farther away so mostly just annoying. Indian Creek is much closer to me and they have a similar PLP for 85/month. Any ideas on if Indian creek is a better experience than Frisco Lakes? Only played there once and it was pre-covid

Maybe someone will have a better answer but I think it’s pretty tough to find a good club in this area that’s less than $10k to join or $600 per month in dues. At that point you are probably better off doing an annual membership at a public course (reduced rates and advanced tee time booking).

That’s what I’m doing these days anyway.

Joined Diamond Oaks in Haltom City. At the time for me it was $800 initiation and currently $390/mo.

it’s no frills but the range and short game area are great for me. The course is in pretty good shape, great greens. Layout is simple and short but it’s a tough track, definitely helps my game when going to other courses.

Played Waterchase yesterday and they finally put some sand in the bunkers!  Seemed about 70% had new sand, so most weren't like hitting off the cart path like it's been like for the past year.

Played SugarTree yesterday. Most of the tee boxes seemed like they could use that Feb 14th treatment, but the course overall was in good shape. Greens were well maintained and rolled well. Will definitely get out there again to play.

I fail to see how pouring flowers, a dinner reservation at Bob's, wine, and p**** into that grass would improve the situation, but it looks pretty good to me.

That’s fair. I guess treatment wasn’t the right word, but preparation would have been a better choice…

The pictures don’t show it well, but the grass was really long on most of the tee boxes. Which is only a nuisance for someone like me who doesn’t have a driver shot so they use iron off the tee 99% of the time.

Heading down to the Dallas area for a golf trip at beginning of May. We are playing 3 rounds at Fields Ranch and we’re hoping to play a round the day before at The Tribute. Just found out they will be punching the greens about 11 days before we arrive. I’m from the Midwest and just don’t know how quickly things heal up down in the Dallas area. We don’t need greens to be perfect but just hoping they are playable.

Do people think we should be OK or should I scrap The Tribute and get a tee time at Heritage Ranch or another area course.

Appreciate the help!

Had this happen to me and do not think it is worth personally. Probably playable but definitely better places to play. The bridges is nice up there and no traffic.

I would look for something else.  No need to pay over $100 for punched greens.  I would see if you can get their sister course old American if it is during the week.  Normal play for public is only after 4 but they may make an exception.

Other courses to look at

Bridges

Pecan Hollow

Bear creek

texas star

Waterchase-best of the bunch but in Arlington

Unfortunately, they are punching both courses at the same time, I asked on that. Thanks for the advice on courses!

Looking at a couple of clubs.

Does anyone have any reviews on Lakes at Castle Hills?

Also, at The Hills Course at Prestonwood, does anyone have any insight how busy it gets there? I am considering there too but only as a Hills member. I have heard it might be difficult to get tee times.

Cowboys greens are in rough shape.  A number of them seem to have basically died and are just fertilizer/seed.  Fairways and tee boxes in pretty good shape.  Not sure what's going on.

This has been a problem for them for 20 years. They can’t get it right. And unless I’m invited for a comped round out there I will not play there. Shame too because the layout is fantastic

That is a shame. I loved the layout.  Had never spent for it. But some friends were in town and thought we'd do it.  Tribute was in fantastic shape and their drainage is just insane.  It weathered the storm quite well last week.

I have never been that big of a fan of the course and think it gets a little boring on the back 9.   Would much rather Grapevine mini.

I do agree with you as I would never pay to play there only tournament invites.

Castle hills was one of my favorite tracks when it was public.  No clue on how busy it is now but a fun track.

I am not a fan of the Hills course but not sure the price difference between joining just the Hills over both to make it worth it.

Shoutout to yall Texas Golfers. Randomly flew into Dallas for a weekend vacation and snagged a tee time at the cheapest place I could find. Played Indian Creek and everyone I ran into and played with were top notch. For a super cheap course it was halfway decent and the carts were very nice. Greens were garbage but a similar course in Washington would cost you $65 a round with no cart.

Grip it n' Rip it
