Rogue 4 Wood...Hook machine?

Picked up a Rogue 4 wood off callaway preowned with a Evenflow Blue 6.0 b/c I heard/ read that they were stupid easy to hit. Now maybe its the indian and not the arrow, but I cannot hit that club to save my life. I was playing a Taylor Made Aeroburner TP 3 HL with aldila rogue (stock offering) . Hit it pretty well, especially off the tee.

I either hook the crap out of it or cant get it airborne. Tried it without lead tape and now I have a ton of tape out on the toe. I am hoping that someone can give me a reason to keep this bad boy in the bag...

I had an Epic 5 wood that I found very long but I had to set up crazy open and that would just get it to go straight. Very draw bias for me. Use the hosel settings, loft it down which should open the face. I don't think you can flatten the lie on those but maybe someone can correct me.

I demoed the Rogue 5W (couldn't find the 4W to try) and thought it was great. Really liked it off the deck, so I figured hey, the 4W could get me some more distance and how different could it actually be?

Bought the 4W and struggled with it. It seemed more similar at address to the 3W than the 5W, just didn't give me confidence looking down at it.

I'm sure a better player wouldn't have trouble but for someone who struggles with a 3W off the deck I find it hard to believe the Rogue 4W offers much different. I just went back to bagging a 5W.

Unfortunately, the Rogue is bonded.

Oh.... interesting. Give is some range time. Try to work on some little fades. If it fails BST.

I agree. I've played with it 2x, 1x at the range. What was weird is that when i played with it the 2nd time (all taped up) I was using it on the range (mats unfortunately) and was absolutely KILLING it...got to the course and nope...not so much...

Get some impact tape, foot spray, dry erase marker, etc and check where on the face you're making contact. I had a Callaway 3 wood that I was hooking the "blank" out of and turned out I was too far out on the toe. Some minor setup changes and some practice with it, took care of the issue. Unfortunately it's pretty much always the Indian!

I played the Rogue 3 W for 6 months, it is definitely not a hook machine and sit pretty neutral to my eyes. I am very sensitive to offset and I draw the ball mainly.

I have to try hard not to hook my Rogue 3w with the Evenflow shaft, which is the same setup I have with my Rogue driver that I hit great. I went back to my original epic 3 wood and I am hitting it well.

I have mine with the Atmos Blue 7 TS and it likes to draw a little, but I wouldn't call it a hook machine.....

BTW, I didn't get on with the EvenFlow Blue shaft at all when demoing it.

I am wondering if that is the case with me (the evenflow) There is something about that shaft I cant put my finger on. It'll get some more range time and possibly another shaft but thats it. LOL

Interesting. I've not hit the Rogue 4 wood, but I have the Rogue in the 3 with the Evenflow Blue. It was an absolutely game changer for me with respect to the 3 wood. My previous 3 wood was performing so poorly I had taken it out of the bag for the past 2 plus seasons. The Rogue 3 with the Evenflow Blue produces high soft fades for me that go crazy distances (for me crazy is anything over 235...I've had a few that were pure get into the 240 plus range).

My driver swing speed is around 97-101 and the Evenflow Blue in S was a good fit in the 3 wood. Perhaps that shaft is just not a good fit for you.

I have the exact setup you do - Rogue 4w with evenflow blue 6.0. I agree with the above statements that it might just be your timing is off due to a shaft mismatch. I have a pretty aggressive transition and I think I just don’t get along well with the evenflow blue. I’m about to trade in this 4w for another 4w with hzrdus yellow from callaway preowned.

I can hit the ball left with the best of them. I did hit the Rogue in a fitting earlier this year and did not notice any left tendencies. It could certainly have been the shafts we were using though.

The low launch _or_ hook sequence might indicate indicate too upright a lie, tied to shaft length. Try choking down a half-inch on shaft, and see if this straightens things out. You would be trying to flatten lie and keep face angle from closing down. If it works, go ahead and trim the shaft.

I definitely agree with the shaft comments. The Aldila Rogue you played previously (assuming it was the Silver) is a much different profile than the Evenflow Blue, with the Evenflow likely feeling a lot softer in the lower mid and tip sections which can cause timing and hooking issues for some swings. See if you can grab another Rogue Silver if that worked really well for you.

Evenflow Blue 6.0 WHAT??? They range all the way from the 55, which is an absolute noodle, to the 85 which is a really nice FW shaft. Make sure you're comparing apples and apples.

Fairly similar shafts. Do the two clubs feel the same when you swing them? All kinds of bad things can happen when a clubs balance is off.

Pretty much. Thats the 1st thing I thought of when I pulled it out of the box. Literally said out loud "Well this was dumb, they feel the same...jailbreak technology better be working here" As I mentioned, I was killing it off the mat (thats all the range would allow) before the round, straight or a little baby fade. Got on the course and it all went to pot. I get that range work (especially with mats is a completely different animal than the course but I had a nice fluffy lie and still hit a low snapper...maybe I just need to work it out some more.

Possibly. Did you use that big rubber tee when hitting off the mat? Those things mess with my head and once I get to where I can hit off one, I can't hit off a regular tee! That's the reason I bought a bunch of those tee holders that fit through the mat holes. Keeps me from getting screwed up with those big rubber POS tees!

Give it a little time.

Update...that thing is a monster! Even with the limited flight balls. I went and hit balls and same thing...hook, hook, hook, worm burner...then I checked my hand position, I was a touch back/ even with the ball (dk if this technically sound or correct) but I put my hands a bit forward and BOOM...bombs. Couple lefties when I got quick but overall straight. Also removed 2 strips of lead tape. Now that I think that I have it worked out, I'm sure I'll stink up the course with it this week. LOL

Thanks for everyone's input with this.
