You might be closer to Bolingbrook which has one of the best ranges and short game areas of any facility in our area.

I haven't been there since the spring, but the handful of times I have been it all depends on where they have the tees set up. They have about 20-30 yards that they use to alternate positions, and it gets more downhill as it goes. The few times I've been when there the spots were well forward the grass wasn't nearly as good as I would have liked, more towards the back was better. Hopefully it's different for you.

This may be a good option. I haven't been there in years, prior to moving to Chicago. Thanks for the recommendation.

I live right between 2 ranges, zigfield Troy and tee time golf range. Neither are worth going to.

What do you have against Zigfield? It's the best range around to practice shots out of US Open type rough!

Haha, I wasn't sure where you were going with that at first. But you are 100% correct.

Village Links on Saturday. I haven't played there since late 2013 when they adopted a singles hostile policy. 'Glad to see they've seen the light. Sunset Valley on Sunday.

Just got done with Schaumburg today (Baer and Players). Amazing how much money the Village can put into this place. As expected, the Baer course is going to take some time being that is has been open for a couple of months only. Chipping from around the greens is like chipping off of an actual green, where is Gary Woodland when you need him! Players is looking gorgeous after one year of seasoning. I really can't find a complaint to make...

Not really. The back nine floods out all the time. Considering how wet May and June were, I have no doubt it happened again there. Both the par 5s on the back typically have large sections of the fairway as ground under-repair due to flooding. The course is a standard parkland set-up, with tight treeline holes. Not a driver course. In my view, nothing special.

One positive is the greens. Usually running pretty smooth with good to decent pace.

Thanks TheBear95!

I guess I'll just play 18 and go hit a few ponds-lakes on the way home and do a little fishing...then watch da Bears.

It’s a super modern course. Absolutely massive piece of property with four nines. All four have one long par 5 and one short one and all but one have a 200+ par 3 and a short 3. Red Hawk is the most boring of them. It’s not awful and everything is maintained well but Red has a lot of boring holes with homes on them. Silver Hawk opens with a short par three but the rest of it is really long. Lots of forced carries over marshes and wetlands. It doesn’t feel like the rest of the facility though. It’s kind of off by itself away from the other three nines. Don’t play the tips on that one if you can’t carry the ball 275. Grey Hawk is very good. Holes 6-9 are all aesthetically really nice. Black Hawk is also solid. The greens on all four should be good. They were running fairly quickly the last time I was there.

I look forward to it, it looks like a fun day. I took a quick peak at the scorecard, I'll probably move around tee boxes between the 9 since we try to cap it at about 3500 yards, especially if 275 is needed since that's about the max I'll carry a drive these days.

Got out to White Hawk in Indiana today and played all 36 out there. Great day with the cooler overcast weather to get in 36. We started out going from Red to Grey. Red like mentioned was the easiest and boring, good 9 to start out on, grey was a lot different with a lot of interesting holes with numerous ways to play them. A lot of Red felt like a combo of Carillon and Broken Arrow. They had an outing on the course so they weren't really letting anybody out so we had the entire course to ourselves, got through in 2:30. I got myself to 3 under at one point and somehow managed to screw that up finishing with a 74.

For the 2nd round we did the black/silver combo. We got behind some yahoo's on the black 9 and the round ended up close to 5 hours. I really enjoyed the challenge this combo presented, really tough yet playable. Not sure it's a great course for the average golfer, hence the 5 hours, there probably should be some hefty suggestions to tee it forward on these two 9's, especially the silver. Ended up with a 77 on this combo, and I felt I played well to get that.

Entire facility is solid, course was in great shape, can't beat playing 36 holes for $88. It's pretty crazy how they managed to get each 9 have a very different feel and look despite sitting on the same general properly.

Bear and I played an early morning round at Sherwood Golf Club in Schererville, IN this morning. We’d played it about 5 years ago and remember it as a place where all the par 4s are super long with mature trees that create lots of problems if tee shots are slightly offline. That’s still very much the case. Tee to green, the course was in rough shape. The fairways had lots of dead spots and hadn’t been cut in a while and the tee boxes - never what I would consider flat - have even more pronounced dips than when we were there last. The greens and bunkers were very good though. Not fast but smooth, mark-free, and the pace was consistent.

The guy working the pro shop is officially on my sh!t list. He showed up to work 20 minutes late decked out in Notre Dame gear head to toe. He had the personality of Brian Kelly (surly and impolite) so I guess his attire was appropriate. After his late arrival, it took him another 20 minutes to turn the computers on, and he then informed us that they had an outing later that day and we might not finish. Had he gotten there on time that wouldn’t have been an issue. We ended up finishing in 2:50, which got us out of there in plenty of time but I don’t think we’ll be back for a while. 76.

Anyone have experience playing at Elgin CC or St. Charles CC? We're looking at joining a club next Spring and those two stood out the most during my research. I'd love to sign on at Black Sheep but since I share a roof with three other females that likely won't fly. I'm open to other clubs nearby if there are opinions as to better options instead.

Another pleasant round this morning. I could really get used to this weather. Village Links was in nice shape tee to green. They could stand to cut the rough. Our group spent untold time looking for balls in the rough. In a few places you basically had to step on the ball to find it. The low morning sun and dew didn't help things. Greens were damp early, and very slow. As the dew dried off, they were still on the slow side. 'Looked nice, though. The bunkers really need grooming. Has it rained out that way in the past few days? A few of them had wet, compacted sand.

Decent round ballstriking with 8 fairways and 11 greens. The driver is literally driving me nuts. One hole it's fine, and the next it's a low hook. I really should just start playing a fade. I hit a nice cut shot on #2, #6, and #14. I made the turn at two over with one birdie, and finished three over with another birdie on the 14th.

The bunkers at Harborside are by far the best in the area. The renovation was a major success.

Where was the pin on the par 3 15th (Anchor Hole)? Hopefully not back left.
