Really? On my weather app I've got a couple days in the high 40s followed by rain all through the weekend. I'm in Evanston, but I can't imagine the forecast is all that different by you.

I really don't think we're missing out on much, this snow is going to melt and make everything borderline unplayable. I think the 7th might be the earliest opportunity with or without a shelter in place order.

Wednesday is 60 and no rain. I hear you, course conditions won't be great but then again, they never really are in March in this area.

the last two years, we've had snowfalls in the first week of april.

This will be my last golf season in Chicago. My wife got the OK to work fully remote come fall 2020 and we will be moving. March is a winter month here and April is very hit or miss, more miss than hit, and even May gets the rare snow showers. Time to go somewhere at least a little warmer and not deal with this junk. That being said there are still a handful of courses I need to knock out before moving. Glen Club being the main Chicago area course - then a handful of Wisconsin courses that will no longer be driving distance.

Last spring was a tough one.

May snow, though, is a real rarity.

Early April snow (even a one day that melts in one-two days) is a bit more commonplace.

I had never seen May snow in my lifetime, that was shocking. Throw in that we had snow on the ground for Halloween and it was one goofy year.

 

Anybody else miss the springs from a few years back when we had some strings of 70s and sometimes 80s in March? I failed to take advantage of those.

March 2012 we had 10+days in a row over 70 and a few 80s. Still remember that.

I was in grad school but on break and Kentucky was making their tournament run, so I was in no shape to play golf for most of that. I'd say it's a shame but they won it all that year

As of right now Geneva National, Hawk's Views, Evergreen, Grand Geneva, Glen Erin and Bristol Oaks are open in Wisconsin. Other courses like Brightondale and Pets Springs are closed because of Covid-19.

Wisconsin is announcing a "Stay At Home" shelter in place tomorrow, so we'll see if they change their minds, but with the nice weather expected, I'm sure they'll fight being closed.

Not too far. Dallas, St Louis or Nashville area. Dallas obviously being the biggest weather difference and no income tax would be a huge benefit. Family lives in Stl and I haven't had to pay for a round of golf there in 10 years, if we decide to have kids this will be our route. This wouldn't be a huge relief from weather, but I'd be able to play year round. She has family in Nashville and we like that city. Thought about making a big change and going to AZ or FL but that just isn't all that realistic for us.

Also just walked around seven bridges and there are no tee markers or flags. Did I miss something, all courses are closed? Idk how I missed that if that came out.

It's death by a thousand cuts. Well, at least four. On my drive back two weeks ago I paid $1.99 a gallon for gas in Arkansas. In Will County it was $3.29, and the gas station near my condo in River North was advertising $3.69.

On top of that you have the state income tax, which will very likely go up as they shift to a graduated plan. The cherry on top is the sales tax. Every state taxes you, but only a handful do so in each of the four areas.

I have lived here for 6 years, 3 in the west loop 3 on Seven Bridges. I have grown to really like it here, love the golf options, great food in the City and suburbs etc. But the house we almost purchased in the fall would have had close to 14k in property taxes. I am so thankful we passed up on it then not knowing we would have the option for our money to go way further elsewhere in a few months.

You get what you pay for.

Canal Shores, Wilmette, and Winnetka seem to be turning a blind eye. All the private clubs around here are doing whatever they want, which is either a loophole or a complete lack of caring. If someone could slap together a no-touch driving range right now they'd make money hand over fist, as long as they don't get shut down.

We're headed up to southeast WI for a bit, a lot of those courses are adamant about staying open.

Right, you can just walk on. Winnetka I haven’t tried personally but the other two aren’t stopping you from doing it. That’s what I meant by turning a blind eye.

Canal had posted on their IG that they were closing their office and encouraging people to put cash in a pay box. I can't remember if that was before or after the governor's announcement though.

I do believe everything is supposed to close. I think courses and golfers thought they had a loophole in the outdoor activity aspect of it, but it seems that some entity either asked for or determined clarity.

They usually do that sometime after Labor Day. I think I went mid September or early October and they were done for the year. That bar they have and the summer concerts probably out earn the golf course 20 times over.

Its also a terrible course, but for $0.00 it’s alright.

It is really a bummer when you consider it is about the safest activity you can do right now. Have employee take greens fee via credit card. Walling only. Don't touch flagstick. Hoping that they realize this if they are to extend the lockdown. Otherwise I will be taking the short drive to Wisconsin.
