Personally I find them a nuisance   They slow up play, and half the time the person driving has less etiquette or care than the modem covid golfer. Then you have the clowns who need to buy stuff on the 9th or 18th hole (see play)  We all know it's hot, bring water and stock up before,  stock up again at the turn.

The Preserve complaint is a real head scratcher.   You have the club house at 1, halfway house at 5, clubhouse at 10, half way house at 14.... how much more do you need?

I absolutely loathe the stupid beverage cart. It slows pace, bros are always hitting on them, and the creepy old man factor gets turned way up. I fill up a 60 oz water bottle at home and attach it to my Clickgear.

When I walked and carried I even figured it out.  It's only hard if you want it to be.   I've seen numerous complaints this week about the lack of the bev carts and I'm lost on it.   I couldn't imagine knocking a course for that.    Hell if that's all it takes to keep people away,  I'm starting a petition.

... Last round the Bro's were on the very first green putting and when the cart girl was heading back to the clubhouse they stopped her and all left their balls on the green to order their drinks instead of putting out and catching her off to the side. First hole. I wouldn't say that kind of behavior is common but it happens in the first 3 holes more than it should.

... Blessing in disguise. One of the rangers at Prairie Bluff cured me from using water coolers. I bring my own reverse osmosis water from home with some essential minerals dropped in but sometimes ran out on a hot day or left them on the counter at home 🙄. He sanitized the cooler in the kitchen, rinsed twice and re-filled them after sitting outside in the sun all day as he was instructed when he started working there. He said most of the other ranges, especially those that had been there a long time not only didn't sanitize them but didn't even rinse them out, just refilled them inviting bacteria and who knows what else. Never used once since.

I can understand the beverage cart complaints.   The vast majority of courses have strict warnings that you may be kicked off the course, etc. for bringing your own alcoholic beverages.  If you have that sign, then you must have a beverage cart.  That said, my friends and I realized a while back that many courses have struggled with this since covid so we have a simple rule.  Bring your own beers and if they have a beverage cart, then we buy from them.  If they don't, then our beers are fair game.  The Oak Meadows comment doesn't make sense though, they are the only course I can think of which has a full bar on the course that you hit at two separate times during the round.

Also, on a side note, nothing will ever beat the Oak Grove beverage cart girl.  If you know, you know.

Why does no beverage cart mean free rein when bringing drinks? That law has nothing to do with the beverage cart and everything to do with liquor licenses.

Also, is it really that hard to buy beer before teeing off, at 9, and then after the round?

Sign me up for no beverage cart vote! 😂 I don't have a horse in the race, I walk and carry water, and my club has water filling stations/machines. I've had a few beers if I am playing in a scramble in the past but that is about it.

This is the creepy old man factor I referenced. Every time a Boomer hits on a Zoomer, an angel throws up in its mouth.

I played in a 9 hole benefit two weeks ago. It was a charity thing but it was stroke play. Odd, but I did win (by one stroke over Bear; third place was at least a dozen strokes behind us). Anyway, they gave each of us 6 beers for 9 holes. We teed off at 9:10 AM. Are all golfers alcoholics and I’m just now realizing it?

Just stock up on beer prior to the round and at the turn?  Do beverage carts have special beer the pro shop bar doesn't have? If you're worried about a course struggling seems like you'd buy from them regardless.  Putting their liquor license at risk isn't showing mich concern for their struggles.....

Prairie Landing again today.  Not much to really say that we don't already know.   Place is insanely pristine, and pace was great as expected first thing in the morning.  Walking up sucks, but these rounds of no waiting ate glorious.

Got off to a tough start going 3 over through 3.  Let off some steam on 4 tee shot, and between the wind and hard ground my drive ended up 130 yards from the pin. Made a birdie,  followed by two more on 10 and 11 for a 72 on the day.

... Most unpopular opinion I'm sure but I haven't had any alcohol in 50 years and if I could, I would outlaw it on golf courses. Of course there are those that drink responsibly and have one or two but soooooo many more abuse the privilege. I don't get it because I walk and view golf as an athletic endeavor so even though edibles are legal in IL and AZ, it isn't something I would do while playing. But of course that doesn't cover BroGolfers that seem to think a round of golf is just a party on wheels while holding a stick.

One of the best things about being a member at Stonehenge in Barrington is they didn't serve or allow alcohol and you never saw dumb behavior or slow play.   I think alcoholic contributes to a good chunk of it,  then the real scary part is they all get in their cars and drive home.

155 was the closest I've ever been prior.  There's a slope you can catch there and on a day like today it'll probably add 60 yards.   It also helps I've added speed.   I've been trying to get this body back to peak physical form..lol... down 40 pounds and with that I've picked up some club speed.

... That's awesome. One round at Prairie Bluff an absolutely hammered player went out to his car to drive home and a cop was in the restaurant, saw him stagger to the parking lot and went out and escorted him back to the bar an ordered him a cup of coffee. When the cop went to the bathroom, the guy headed back out and the cop arrested him a few miles from the course. Here's Your Sign.

... We all have stories but playing George Dunne in 103* heat my pard and I went through over 100 oz of water and the twosome we were paired up with brought a case of beer with them. With the high humidity we were sweating our az off so we never took a leak as the water was leaving our bodies assist as we put it in. These clowns were hitting a tree on almost every hole and on the back 9 ordered 2 more six packs. 😱 My guess is alcoholics for sure because even though they were slightly slurring their words and red eyed and red faced, they could swing a club and didn't stagger. But they must have been so dehydrated that night and watching them get in their cars and drive off was pretty scary.

I lost 3 friends in high school who were taken out by a drunk  driver.  I love a good beverage myself,  but have very little tolerance for those who drink themselves silly and none for those who decide to drive.

... You Da Man! But I am gonna have to stop you right there "There's a slope you can catch" you must mean you because I was thrilled to be just past the bunker on the right and the slope was never in play for me other than my second shot that I either had to lay up short of the rough that crosses the fairway or carry it and still be a wedge away from the green. I was very happy when I reached it in two with a fairway wood. 🤷‍♂️

An opinion I agree with. I don’t drink so I just kind of laughed when they offered a six pack and asked for some bottles of water instead. The lasting affects of Covid seem to be that I can wear a mask at work (teenage kids are gross) without being judged and that my favorite hobby/obsession is shared by some of the worst people on Earth for very different reasons than why I love it. Old guys hitting on young women is a tale as old as time. I saw Bill Belichick’s new girlfriend is 24. He’s 72. I’m sure they have a lot of common interests.

All you guys want is no beers, no carts, no music, and no high handicap golfers, oh and all divot marks repaired, on public courses?

Please keep all replies as pretentious as possible to keep the theme of the page going

... You see what you want to see and hear what you want to hear.

No alcohol? Check, although admittedly unrealistic.

No carts? No, we just want responsible cart riders.

No music? Again no, just keep it at a level only they can hear.

No high index players? LOL, nobody thinks that. 🙄

Divots and ball marks repaired? Not too much to ask on a par 3 or executive course.

... If you view all that as pretentious and not just common courtesy, then I doubt I would enjoy 18 with you. Last round I saw 4 Bro's getting ready for their round and even though there is a short game area with plenty of range balls and a big bunker next to the range, the practice putting green has a sign that says "Absolutely No Chipping" and these guys were playing pitches trying to hit the sign.

Probably each took three balls off the 1st tee. Oh, and two balls each off the 2nd, 3rd, etc.

Don't mind a breakfast ball, but hacks hitting 2 or 3 balls off of every tee gets old really quick.

No carts is sadly not a possibility. The walking culture in the US was never strong and it seems to be getting weaker every year.

No beers? Yes, please. Courses often include environmentally protected areas, Audubon Sanctuaries, etc. I see water, pop, and sports drink bottles in the garbage where they’re supposed to be. I see beer cans tossed in the woods on every course. The more beer people ingest during a round, the worse they play and the slower they play. Also, seriously, if someone is drinking at 8:00 AM, that’s indicative of a bigger problem. One someone should probably talk to his/her sponsor about.

No high handicap golfers? High handicap players shouldn’t play from the tips. They often do. High ‘cappers shouldn’t grind on greens to wrap up triple and quadruple bogies. They often do. No one should be hitting 2 or 3 balls per shot. An occasional extra if one goes O.B. or in the water and no one is pressing? Sure. But I see guys go through sleeve after sleeve of golf balls. In my Michigan trip, I played four courses and lost two balls. Total. I also learned the game on 9 hole courses and my dad taught me the importance of ready golf when I was 5 years old. I understand that some people are learning the game on their own later in life and didn’t have a parent saying, after a bad shot and subsequent juvenile meltdown, “Always respect the course.” But at the very least, people should play from the correct tees, play ready golf, and let faster players go through. That doesn’t seem like too much to ask.

Repair ball marks? Umm, yes. Repairing divots and ball marks on greens doesn’t seem like a bridge too far.

Too confirm -

All you guys want is no beers, no carts, no music, and no high handicap golfers, oh and all divot marks repaired, on public courses?

Please keep all replies as pretentious as possible to keep the theme of the page going…

I'd play here. 😂

Though, I do listen to music. Just super low, low enough that if I am on the green putting out and my bag is off the green I can't even hear it.

It's amazing how much trash winds up in the bushes at some courses. As far as I remember, I've never lost my water bottle on a course. You walk down a cart path between holes that are lined by vegetation, and it's filled with countless food wrappers,  beer cans, and beer bottles. Can I could possibly see, but there's no way a beer bottle gets blown out of a cart.

ditto.

Every tee box has a ball washer stand with the trash can attached. How on earth is it so difficult to use those instead of the bushes?

There's a trash barrel/dumpster near the clubhouse - even large items can be neatly disposed of.  There's no reason to see pizza boxes in the foliage.

When I used our course as a walking track last winter, with all the tall growth trimmed and mostly dormant, the amount of trash seen was just astounding.

All the cans/bottles tossed into deep rough are obvious signs of knuckleheads treating the venue like it was an alley.

Music is fine, with some limitations.

when I play solo, a pair of wireless earbuds are really nice to have.

before that, it was an iPod Shuffle clipped to my collar.

when I started playing this game, in the horse and buggy days,  the elder statesmen of the course used to have a transistor radio hanging from their bags.

maybe they listed to the baseball game, others played music. none seemed intrusive.

... If you view all that as pretentious and not just common courtesy, then I doubt I would enjoy 18 with you.

I don’t blame you for wanting all that. I want responsible drinking, no littering, more efficiency, more courtesy, and more respect in all aspects of life, including golf.

It isn’t going to happen and you guys are in the 1% (or less) of people that think it should on the golf course, or care.  I get annoyed by slow play and multiple tee shots also…and move along with my day.

I’m a high handicapper that keeps a decent pace, plays a tee box too far back usually, drinks some beers, listens to quiet music, and is inconsistent at repairing my ball marks on the rare occasion I make one. You’ll have to wait while I chunk some shots.

If that means you wouldn’t enjoy a round with me, fine.  I have fun on the course and am as respectful as possible.

Plenty of people here that like to talk down to the 99% of the golfing population, brag about their water consumption and lost ball #, and just overall be miserable regarding anything but a low score for you to play with here.

@Argonne69 you seem like a really genuine, good guy and I respect your points and agree with them. If more people would take a your approach to discussing them instead of ramming their complaints down everyone’s throat at every opportunity, this community would be a better place.

But this place isn’t designed for me, I get it.  Your guys utopian wants just aren’t happening and all courses would be closed if they did.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to call my sponsor 😎
