Preshot routine ... and ‘show off your skills mode’

Being a professional helps ... they have been there done that for the most part

Lowry’s been there

I don’t have a very good history with pressure. When I first got to be a good tournament player I had some clutch moments and posted good scores under pressure. As I got to the end of my college career and then playing some pga section events I went the wrong way somewhere and didn’t ever really recover. I pissed away some good rounds, missed greens finishing off rounds and missed putts I should have made. It was quite an about face from ages say 16-21 that I could man up under pressure and count on playing well. Then 22-25 I certainly did not, and then I got away from golf for a bit and the lack of desire to return to tournament golf is largely due to this I think. When I dealt with it well I was eager to put guys away and show off my skills. I think as it became apparent a playing career was not going to happen the pressure bothered me more as it seemed like something I was fruitlessly putting myself through. Here I was grinding over the last 3 holes at the Indiana Open for what? $125 in prize money? The downside was some embarrassment and shame, the upside was just a few scheckles. It wasn’t in proportion so I no longer looked forward to it. The key is embracing the pressure and looking forward to it. Dread is a career killer.

I think with bad weather you play with what it gives you. They may take some of the pressure off knowing it's hard for anyone to charge in those elements. There will be some low early postings but they are so far back to gain much. I think it's his to give away.

If I was Shane Lowry, I would be reminding myself that the pressure was on him before he teed off today and he went out there and shot a course record 63. That's some pretty good vibes right there.

I'm thinking with all the pressure Shane will have a, Rory first round moment or a Van De Vel last round. Shane might have to move to Florida.....LOL!

He went for everything today and hit 17 greens, I’d try to keep that attitude, no need to be wreckless though

He showed some nerves when he took the lead on Friday

I bet Westwood at 100/1, I think he felt the pressure today with the putter and I worry about him not having a real caddy

Jb Holmes had some nervy putts today

Fleetwood, Rose and koepka handle pressure well

Fowler seems to get the odd 6 or 7 when pressure is on

I hate when players go into the prevent defense. I agree, go with what got you there...

Hopefully Lowry learned from his final round meltdown at the 2016 US Open at Oakmont. Had a 4 shot lead after the 3rd round and shot 76. Hope he closes it out tomorrow.

Dreams are not meant to come true.
Dreams are meant to keep you going through the darkness.

What ever he did then, he better do the opposite tomorrow because Brooks Koepka is coming for him.....he will try amp the pressure up on Shane Lowry...

He wont need to go low to win tomorrow...that's what he needs to focus on. It's a Sunday of a major, and he's got a massive lead...a stress-free, even par round will win going away.

Actually, some bad weather will help him massively. It makes par a good score.

Just gotta remember

“I'll tell you this

in any fight

it is the guy who is willing to die

who is going to win that inch.

And I know

if I am going to have any life anymore

it is because, I am still willing to fight, and die for that inch

because that is what living is.

The six inches in front of your face.”

I felt like Westwood’s putter was fine all day. The back nine problems were more him not giving himself opportunities. Seemed like there was always a hump his approach didn't quite clear. And he had a few unlucky bounces too. That there may have been nerves. But it was more shotmaking than putting as I see it.

Pressure, this is why I play tournament golf. Love the butterfly’s in my stomach before I tee off. It is fun to see how you handle it. If that feeling goes away I probably would give up tournament golf.

Why play differently than what got you the big lead?

Personally if I have my foot on your throat, figuratively speaking of course, I’m going to keep applying pressure until your done. Sometimes that means going out and making 7/8 birdies because the course is 6700 yards and I’ve got to press and make a score, but I’m also perfectly content playing back and not making mistakes while opponents hack their way around.

There’s no better feeling than looking at your opponent and him/her finally realizing that they have no chance of beating you, because you can see it on their face. Sometimes it’s that start of the round or sometimes during but it’s a good feeling knowing that I have done the necessary work and seized the opportunity from them.
