This year in the majors they won, Tiger, Koepka and Lowry were ranked #1 in Greens and Regulation. And Woodland was ranked #2. More greens= More Birdie opportunities. If you look at the players mentioned above, 2 guys stand out. Garcia/Tiger had insane ball-striking weeks at Augusta and putted half decent. If they had great putting weeks they would've won by 3-4 shots. I think Tiger was ranked 40 something in driving distance at Augusta this year. The formula to win majors is easy= hit down the fairway 290+, Lead in GIR/proximity to the pin, and putt average.

“all things being equal” is the key qualifier to that statement.

Years ago a poster might have sounded smart saying something like that, but now I'll take the word of tour pros:

I named 12 major wins in the last 7 years by players middle of the pack or lower in driving distance.

It sure was a treat to watch Tiger's mastery over the years. So many of us took it for granted the artistry that was Tiger Woods' talent. Even a diminished Tiger that sprayed it all over the map won 5 times in 2013. I think he can will 2 more majors but then again we've learned to never count Tiger out. Perhaps he will be the first to win a major at age 50.
