My course doesn't even let you on the front nine or back nine on aeration days. They do one nine on a Monday and the other on Tuesday. So there is always nine holes wide open.

Better that way. 🙂

So irritating when the front desk says you have to pay double for a cart when you want a half cart. It started during COVID when some places charged you double if you wanted your own cart, I can  kind of see that.

But then they got hooked on the revenue.  Now, if someone in your group is a walker, or you get put in a threesome, ChaChing! another $15 bucks for management. sux

3 people on the green. Aeration holes, applying sand, changing hole position. The same crew on 5 greens in a row. Got past them finally and then there was another crew raking greenside bunkers. Basically the last 8 holes I had to wait till someone waved a hand signaling me to hit. On a few holes there was another guy stuck in front of me.

Ok I get that, ya the course shouldn't be open during that, I thought you were talking just general day to day maintenance

You can't cry #ShrinkTheGame if you're playing muni's or publics, or even low cost value privates. You have no more right to the course then anyone else out there. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps and join a limited play private, games still plenty small at those places.

*Etiquette complaints are fair.

gotcha,

Why not just skip a hole or two to get by them then come back?

That's a no-go for me. Can't think of anywhere I've played that didn't have a per-person cart fee. I would tell them to pound sand if they tried to charge me for a rider other than myself if I'm not simply getting the whole tab anyway.

Cart fees are supposed to cover wear & tear and eventual replacement plus a tiny bit of profit per person. They're daffy trying to make double fees even from singles.

anyone that says they are good at something in relation to golf or ask what your handicap is on the first tee are usually the worst players i've ever played with.

My pet peeve is people asking on the first tee or first hole, "Sooo, what do you do?" Personally, I have a great and fun job as a producer and director of TV commercials.  But those people who ask are just trying to size you up. On occasion I suppose they are trying to establish some commonalities. I'd rather they ask me, "What's your sign?"  😄

i mean, i get that it's for the sake of formality, but it's like i REALLY dont care what you do for a living nor do i want to talk about my work.

i enjoy the company of other people when playing golf, but im trying to get my mind and body away from work and stay in the present.

maybe im just antisocial lol

What do you mean by they're trying to size you up?

Nothing wrong with that. Blades are the best training aid for anyone. 🙂These days I try to find reasons why someone is not gaming blades. So far the only good reasons have come from retired people who no longer hit it far.

I’ll be playing blades even if I get even shittier at golf. The idea of the whole sport cannot be that equipment fixes user errors.

People should just play whatever they want and enjoy it. Just spare the commenting on it like your buddy does or others do like I mentioned. These kind of comments are rife on Wrx as well.

💯 That is the only thing that truly bothers me about golf. Golfers spend far too much energy worrying about what someone else is doing, what clubs someone else is playing, and what clothes someone else is wearing.

That certainly fits this thread. I mean, all we have to look at is the TV ratings I think we can prove that is a VERY unpopular opinion...

I can’t remember the last time I ever even looked in someone else’s bag at their clubs.  I couldn’t even tell you what clubs any of the guys in my regular foursomes play.  Couldn’t care less.

That said, I can spot a ball retriever sticking out of a bag from 100 yards…

why I don't play blades?

I score better with my irons vs a blade

Scoring better = more fun and winning more

more fun = reason to keep golfing

It’s hard to believe though. I’d say that one of the biggest golf myths is the idea that blades are somehow harder to hit. I for one started playing much better after switching to blades. It is of course possible to play cavity backs here and there, but taking such clubs as the main irons would deteriorate my swing in the long run. Forgiving means that errors are harder to spot.

I don't think they're harder to hit, it just that 1mm off on a blade is going to probably be a few yards short or target vs a more forgiving iron which will have the same distance.

If I actually had tome to practice or play more, I'm sure I'd consider them more, but I don't need to be frustrated while trying to enjoy some time away from my busy life.

So be it. Still quite sure I’m not wrong when it comes to the provided views. It is a hard pill to swallow. Just like the ”fact” that fitting is a flawed scam approach. It’s like a religion to some, so many will be quick to call me an idiot for stating the obvious. (Instead of learning to hit different gear, people try different stuff with their current swing. Instead of learning to hit different clubs/shafts they pick something that works with their swing, because that swing obviously is perfect. Very dumb and unlikely to be the best way forward. It’s a religion-like thing though, so I’m wrong no doubt.)

My wife thinks I’m always wrong, but I doubt she’d say that regarding these views. Or maybe she would… wouldn’t be surprising. 😄

I think there are definitely some truths in there.  But I also think, "different strokes for different folks."  I apply that very generally to this game (swings, gear, approaches)... some people enjoy the grind of constant improvement in this game, while others want to make the game as easy as possible for themselves.

You’re not totally wrong about fitting but you’re not right either. Once fitting became popular some bigger chains moved in and started calling their sales techniques “fitting” which many might call scam-ish (I’m trying to be polite here). Doesn’t mean a fitting by a true pro isn’t 100% legit, it just means the consumer has to work to figure out the difference. With you on blades though, or at least CBs lik pros play. Assuming you have access to a LM and have moderate to fast swing speed, it’s easy to see that a GI typically has more ball speed drop off on the edges, not less.
